Abstract
The study sought to find the effect of study habits on the academic performance of the second year Bachelor of Elementary Education students. It sought to find the academic performance of the respondents during the first semester, their study habits in terms of time management, learning skills and study skills.
The respondents were 29 sophomore Bachelor of Elementary Education students during

These will help them improve their study habits and performance. But this does not mean that the student should always be holding his/her book, it is still recommended that there should be breaks between study hours to have time to rest their eyes and mind. According to Mark Crilly (2000), Successful students are able to balance social activities with good study habits. A diversion from studies will alleviate stress and help prevent from becoming fatigued. He said that a student should take a break for an hour after studies to meet with friends, play cards, and work out at the gym or to gab with new acquaintances. “To develop a healthy social life, develop routine study habits. After supper, lug your books and homework to the library, find a comfortable and quiet niche and study for two or three hours, taking intermittent 10 minutes breaks every forty-five minutes or so.” Making friends with whom you share similar study habits and share a table or a study space with them would be a best way in developing study habits. Undergraduate students should be fully equipped with high level of analytical skills, the capacity for critical reasoning, self-reflection and conceptual grasp and ability to learn. Multi-media is a supplement to textbooks and workbooks. The uses of these materials help students in their studies. The students should be encouraged to spend more time for their assignments and class projects and not to
If they aren't stressing it would help the relax and not make them rush through their studies. It would give them more time to study instead of having to go to work and take away from their time of learning. Also it would give them time to for extra studying so they can make a better grade on their exams. Having all this extra time they could also get together with their friends and have study sessions together so if one person didn't know something they could help the other
Even though high school is very different than college I think these habits stick with us. From elementary school and beyond students begin study habit, these habits are used throughout all life, of course with some adjustments along the years. Personally, I like to get my work done right away so I can stray to procrastinate. I also like to write everything out, making it easier for me to remember. I may need to alter the way I learn and adapt to college curriculum, such as planning my time in a more efficient way. Not to over whelm my self by trying to complete my work all at once, and remember to just live sometimes. To take school seriously, but to also enjoy my time is what I want to focus
Studying by myself in a quiet room is most effective for me. There is less distraction, and it makes me be focused on my studying. If I want to study for a Biology class, I read the textbook. But if I want to study for math I do practice problems. I also don’t bring anything that I don’t need in my studying. This will reduce the distractions, and makes me finish my studying session faster. I try to think positive when I’m studying, it allows me to study efficiently.
When I’m at home, I will study a smaller section at a time so I can reflect more often on what I have just read. By doing that my brain will have more time to rebuild and expand. Then I will try to keep to my appointed studying times and days. That will help me to stay on track with my homework and other assignments in the class. Having a certain study
I feel like I did not have many barriers that caused me to have trouble with my study habits. I do feel like I need to take a break sooner when I am studying then to keep on studying one subject to the next. During my study times, if I keep them the same at the same place I feel like I will be able to accomplish the task, because the distraction are very few for me, and I have the house to myself when I am studying. If in this semester, I come to a block in the road of where I choose to study, then at that time I will choose another place to sit down and study. When we study, if we are truly studying as we should, we do not need to allow anything to hinder us from getting our work done. If distractions are happening, then we need to fix the problems right away so that we will not get behind in our lessons. I have found that through all of this, that what might work for me will not or may not work for someone else. You have to choose a place to study that works best for
This was an issue that was consistent throughout the first semester, and carried over to the second semester without me even realizing it. Once I noticed that I was spending more time wasting time with friends, I decided that a change needed to be made. From the hours of three to five every day, I would sit in my room and work regardless of whatever anybody else was doing. This proved to be the most successful way of getting my work done and preparing for class. Although the beginning of the semester was a bit of a tough one, I was able to set up a plan that could help me succeed well into my college career.
It is important to be aware that students tend to put all of their efforts and time in school to get the best possible academic performance. Especially for high school students who are expected to go to college after they get
I’ve learn that although I have millions of assignment due that day I need to take breaks to eat. Many times I have been starving to death, but I refuse to eat for the fact that I have an overload of test I need to study for first. Eating before doing anything helps me concentrate and have the energy to do what I need to do. Another thing to take into consideration is to study when I am sure that I’ve done everything and nothing will distract me from studying eight hours or so. Using technology to set alarms for when I need to start studying, depending on how difficult the sections and the work is will be in my
All of these measurements collected were deemed to be significant on all levels. Compelling positive associations amongst classroom atmospheres and study habits were noticed between trial 1 and trial 2 of the study. This suggests strong test-retest consistency for the two administrations of this study (Ning, Downing). Results also indicated that previous academic involvement significantly predicted learning experiences and study behaviors found in the first half of the study. Longitudinal construct stability can therefore be attributed to the fabrication of this research. It can be conclusively said that learning atmospheres observed during trial 1 significantly reflect the study habits seen in trial 2, that study habits observed during trial 1 significantly reflect learning atmospheres in trial 2, and that both learning atmospheres and study habits significantly reflect overall scholarly achievement (Ning,
Find a quiet place to study where you won’t be interrupted so you can know what you're doing and study for the things you're doing in
The second subject to be added into the curriculum would be Multi-Media studies. This subject will reflect today’s society and teach skills that are needed due the growth of technology (Wise 2000; Bazalgette 2010). Multi-Media studies would involve aspects of other subjects such as I.C.T, music, business and technology, thus allowing for cross curricular work to take place (Howard,
The Learning and Study Strategies Inventory, Second Edition (LASSI-2; Weinstein, Palmer, & Schulte, 2002) is a self-report measure of high school and college students’ study skills and learning strategies. The college version of the LASSI-2 consists of 80 items that are answered on a 5-point scale (1 = not at all like me, 5 = very much like me). The LASSI-2 is composed of 10 subscales related to strategic learning (e.g., time management, motivation, concentration, information processing). Previous research has shown that the 10 subscales can be divided into three overarching factors (i.e., Affective Strategies, Goal Strategies, Comprehension Monitoring Strategies) that are each associated with academic performance (Cano, 2006), and these three composite scales were used to measure study skills and learning strategies in the present study. The Affective Strategies domain assesses attitudes toward school success (e.g., “I only study the subjects I like”), time management (e.g., “I end up ‘cramming’ for every test”), concentration on school-related tasks (e.g., “Because I don’t listen carefully, I don’t understand some course material”), and motivation for performing school-related tasks (e.g., “When work is difficult, I either give up or study only the easy parts”). The Goal Strategies domain assesses the degree to which students have anxiety about their schoolwork and academic performance (e.g., “Even when I am well prepared for a test, I feel very anxious”),
To achieve good grades in high school a person must be disciplined in their study habits. Once a person reaches high school these habits must be ingrained into the personality of the young person so that they are second nature or it is to late.
Finally, we also mentioned the importance of time management and self-discipline. A student will manage very well his/her time by identifying best time for studying, using distributed learning and practice means study in shorter time blocks with shorts breaks between, reducing distractions which can waste time, making room for entertainment and relaxation, making sure there is time to sleep and eat properly and try to combine activities. For example, if a student is spending time in the Laundromat, he/she can bring his psychology book to read. Managing time takes self discipline. The same professor cited before said that “people who seem to have less difficulty with self-discipline probably have simply had more practice at it”. So, practice is what it takes to have self-discipline.
Furthermore, although you are interested in a subject and your are really trying to concentrate, but it could also interrupt by distraction. You cannot control over some distraction but the are some other ways to control. You may choose the place and time of study. In order to study efficiently, we need to have a place used for study. More wisely, set your timetable to plan your work and study. The kind of timetable will depend upon on your class schedule, study time and social activities. We should try to follow the rule of plan your work and work your plan.
