The idea that we, as a global community, are destroying the very earth we commonly share is something that takes time for people to fully understand. It takes research and a open mind to be knowledgeable about the environmental issues the human race is causing to planet earth, as well as the issues that it is causes to our personal health. Air pollution is a large problem that exists in the United States and affects all of us. However, the challenge that we as American’s face is the inescapable necessities of modern life (driving to work, cooking food, etc.). These technologies are directly linked to air pollution and therefore affect our health and sustainability. BusinessDictionary.com defines air pollution as, “the condition in which air is contaminated by foreign substances, or the substances themselves.” Air pollution is something that is having a direct affect on all of our lives and our health. We must do two things: consciously take action in the way we live our lives, so that we do not contribute to the already existing problems we face; and find ways to live a life that is less contributive to the dilemma of air pollution to sustain a healthy and productive life. What, then, is the problem that air pollution is causing in the United States? This question has an answer that needs to be recognized. We face the dilemma of using massive amounts of fuel sources which in turn contributes to air pollution. The consumption of fuel sources is affecting our health.
Air pollution is the contamination of air through different harmful gases, chemical, and smoke that makes plants, animals, and human lives harder to survive (Causes, Effects and Solutions of Air Pollution”). As Americans, our need for stuff increases and accumulates over time. We tend to throw away our old stuff to make room for new stuff. In the end, factories are producing more stuff leading to an increase in gas emissions into the air and water. Our society have seen from first-hand basis the dangers of air pollution, yet many turn a blind eye.
Air pollution is air with a lot of chemicals in it that makes it hard for us to breathe. We breathe 2 gallons of air per minute which makes it 3400 gallons of air each day. Above 50,000 people die in America due to air pollution. 80% of our lung disease are caused by the pollution of the cars. Indoor air pollution is 2-5 times worse than the air outdoors. Ways to reduce air pollution is by wearing mask continually to save ourselves from air pollution. Electric vehicles produce less air pollution because they don’t produce gas. Another way to reduce it is that ensure new vehicles had to be fitted with catalytic converters. With these changes it also reduces ozone pollution. Ozone air irritant your eyes, nose and throat. By making these changes it would be easier for everybody to breathe.
Although thought to be “not a big problem” and “under control” by most people, pollution is making its way in being a serious and an unforgiving threat to society. Pollution a topic everyone hears and knows exists. What they don’t know is how serious of a problem it is already becoming. Many health issues are being reported now that are linked to air pollution and even the most severe weather places have encountered are linked to air pollution also. By society, not fully being aware of the true threat that pollution is making, it will only become a growing threat that they will be encountering.
Air pollution are impacting the environment, and it is imperative that laws are enforced to help build and sustain a better air quality. Air pollutants can be in the form of particulate matter which can be very harmful to our health. Stimulation to our eyes, nose, throat, and breathing infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia are all short-term effects. You’re head might hurt, you might want to puke, and you might have allergic reactions. Short-term air pollution can put people with asthma and emphysema in a worse condition. Long lasting breathing disease, lung cancer, heart disease, and even damage to your brains, nerves, livers, or kidneys are all long-term effects. If you’re exposed to air pollution continuously, it would affect children’s lungs and may complicate medical conditions for the elders. Some people argue and deny the bad air problem. They claim that pollution may actually be good for the Earth. The hazy weather caused by pollution has made plants far more productive when it comes to scrubbing greenhouse gasses out of the air. Pollution has turned plants into better carbon dioxide processing machines. But this is bad for our own health. Pollution is causing global warming which leads to massive ice land melting. Polar bears and other animals that live there are losing there habitats and even dying. Melting ice could also lead to more sea water which would bury some cities or land near the coastal areas. There is already a tremendous amount of people on this planet. If our land decreases, and our population continues to increase, some people would have to start living on another planet; therefore, making it a priority to address the areas
D. Thesis: Because air pollution is a looming problem for the world, I’d like to share three important facts with you about this topic.
There have been different diseases caused by air pollution from lung cancer to breathing problems such as asthma and in worse cases death. Pollution is caused from dangerous chemical experiments, smoke from factories and daily human activities. Two of the many ways to eliminate air pollution is by recycling things like paper, plastic, cardboards, cans. This saves energy and the production emission is reduced. Also by informing people on ways they can individually help their communities by doing simple acts such as turning off electrical appliances when not in use. It's our responsibility to take care of mother
Since Henry Ford’s invention of the moving assembly line to mass produce civilian automobiles in 1913, the environment and air that we breathe every day is being ruined and polluted. Though people drive cars around every day with no worries, they still are damaging the world around them with every mile. Car emissions are causing multiple issues with the air and water sources. Harmful gases are being emitted from the cars and are messing up the natural gases already present in our atmosphere. These gases consist of sulfur-based substances and are polluting and contaminating the already present nitrogen oxide and other greenhouse gases up in the atmosphere. These harmful emissions then seep into our blue seas and clear lakes, poisoning the waters and killing the
Air pollution is the result of many human activities- burning fossil fuels, agriculture and industry all contribute to polluting the air we breathe. Human actions are damaging the Earth’s atmosphere; but pollution not only harms the environment, it also damages our health. According to the World Health Organization, 1.2 million deaths each year are caused by air pollution. Because of the risks associated with air pollution, we should all be aware of the pollutants and polluters in our communities.
Over the past few years, air pollution has been one of the major problems encountered in the California central valley. The Central Valley, also called as the Great Valley of California, is comprised of approximately about 20, 000 square miles. It is consisted of two parts, the northern portion is called the Sacramento Valley and the southern portion is called the San Joaquin Valley (U.S.). There are several factors that could have contributed to the amount of air pollution in the air, some of which humans have the ability to prevent and mitigate. Many of the activities that we do in our daily lives could result to the development of air pollution without us even knowing it. In this paper, we will discuss what air pollution is and gain a better understanding of what air pollution is, determine its causes, economic, social, and health impacts, and create solutions that would address the problem of air pollution in the California central valley.
Air pollution has many different categories and each is harmful in their own way. Almost every kind of air pollution is caused by these simple things, Energy use, fossil fuels, technology, and vehicles.
The definition of pollution is “the action of causing something to become impure; unsafe; unsuitable.” My theory is that if everyone who drove an electric car drove a gas car there would be a higher level of air pollution. Then there is the fact that if the air pollution gets high enough it can start to harm us. This is a problem because millions of Americans live in an area with high amounts of toxic pollutants, which pose deliberate health concerns. A few of the effects of people exposed to high levels are irritated eyes, nose, and throat; coughing; wheezing; difficulties breathing; tight chest; asthma; increased chance of a heart attack.
Air pollution is very harmful to all living organisms. There are many things that can cause Carbon dioxide levels to increase drastically, therefore polluting our air. What most of those things have in common is that they are produced by humans: man made activities. The increase of the Earth’s population is one of those reasons. During the 1970s the Earth’s population was only about 3 billion compared to the staggering number of today’s society which is an astonishing 6 billion and rising. Also, the constant burning of fossil fuels emits a large amount of Carbon dioxide into our planets atmosphere. Roughly 41% of CO2 emissions are produced by the continuous burning of fossil
Lastly we must take responsibility and not deplete our natural resources because of the air we breathe. If we pollute the air many issues arise. Air pollution presents huge environmental threats. Fighting air pollution is one of the best ways to help our environment. Air pollution has different harmful chemicals and gases released from our cars and industrial factories. Vehicles are the biggest source of air pollution. In some countries the air is unbearable to breathe. The biggest impact air pollution has on humans is our health. According to the world health organization 2.4 million people die each year from direct air pollution. Air pollution can also cause respiratory diseases and lead to heart problems. Air pollution has an effect on climate change and the greenhouse effect. It gives the greenhouse effect more strength which then increase the average temperature on earth. Other issues that may come from air pollution is increased risk for skin cancer due to thinning of the ozone layer. Acid rain can also be an issue. Acid rain damages animal habitats, pollute water, and damage the ecosystem. If we continue to not take responsibility and pollute the air with these
Humans have affected the Earth and caused global warming. The Earth’s temperature has fluctuated in history; one of the causes is the growth of the automobile industry and the impact of the industrial gases on the planet’s atmosphere. For example, one of the gases created is carbon dioxide by the use of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are depletable energy sources such as oils, natural gas, and coal, which were formed millions of years ago. Fossil fuels power automobiles and when the post-World War II population boomed, so did the number of automobiles used, causing more carbon dioxide to be produced. Fossil fuels also created smog, which spread and covered a variety of cities. “Smog is the atmospheric pollutants or gases formed that are released into the air when fuels are burnt” (Flynn). As a matter of fact, the smog and pollution caused harm to all who lived with the smog and pollution. No action was done to help prevent some of the harm, but in 1963, the United States realized how much smog industries were producing and passed the first Clean Air Act. The Clean Air Act sets standards for industries but not for the vehicles and by the year 1970, the United States Environmental Protection Agency amended the Clean Air Act to put limits on vehicles. The United States Environmental Protection Agency amended the Clean Air Act because research found huge amounts, roughly eighty percent, of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was from vehicles. The extra carbon dioxide increases
Air pollution and health damage to the human body has a great influence to atmospheric pollutants harm human body mainly through three channels: First is to the body hurt after surface contact, second it is to eat food containing atmospheric pollutants and water poisoning, third it is inhaled air pollution for a variety of serious problems. Air pollution can cause respiratory and lung diseases, but also can be harmful to cardiovascular system, liver and so on, serious can take people's life.
