Skills Learned Over the course of three months I have learned more about the field of development and myself than ever before. There were many things that surprised me, both positively and negatively, but as a whole much more in the positive realm. Having a CO-OP directly in my field of study, especially as my first placement, has given me insight into what I already do well and areas for improvement, but also insight into where I see myself one day. Some of the integral skills my summer at GAC taught me were taking direction from multiple sources, stress management, and using French as a second language. Working for two teams within a branch no matter where you are working poses challenges. In my past work of fast food and retail, switching from cooking to serving or from mens to ladies fashion can be complex - but nothing compared to having the responsibility of two full time government jobs in one. I would receive emails every day, multiple times a day, asking my to do what seemed like ten things per email. I learned to deal with high volumes of tasks you must identify what the person is asking and what tasks will take priority. As a student, it can be intimidating to turn down work or tell people you cannot do what they are asking. However, it is a necessity in order to get work done. Equally, being clear with superiors of what you are already working on diminishes unrealistic expectations of completion times. I found it very helpful to email multiple people that had
He says he not only became a more involved student but much more creative thinker/ writer, and a valuable team member. Team work is crucial in the real world especially in the work place. I think that this class equipped all the student with skills they need to be successful outside of the classroom. This amazes me because the process was enjoyable for Morgan.
Avid has been interesting for me this year. I was depressed and didn't want to live anymore but Avid helped me get out of that, and by tha I mean everyone punched me in my stomach for acting so stupid , but I’m grateful that they did that. It taught me to actually take notes properly for the first time in my life. How to rely on others for help when I needed it most. Most importantly, how to not be so anti-social. I would say it improved the way I interact with others, and thats something I really needed.
There are many examples that show how different aspects of development can impact one another. In majority of cases, one aspect will lead to another as a natural result, so for example, if a child has a speaks foreign language as his/her first and family just came to UK to live, this may lead to having language barrier, he/she may become shy, not very communicative, isolated, which affects emotional and intellectual development, further, he/she may have difficulty making friends, which can weaken his/her self esteem, affecting social and behavioral development.
Being able to work with the freshman students by mentoring them about senior year was an honor. This is very important for young students to start hearing about because they will have the
It has been really interesting to learn what it takes to keep the program running and finding different ways for funding. And even though the program has begun to gain community support, my supervisor has
I feel like I have had a better understanding of how people really think. I liked being able to go through each assignment and relate them to my own personal life. I have also learned how to manage my time much
The faculty and departmental meetings prepared me for a successful start of my college career at Seton Hill by allowing me to get to know my professors, and allowing me to receive a real insight into
This experience was successful. My mentor gave me positive feedbacks on how easy I am to work with. She was amazed by my adaptability without compromising my personality. This was like a gift for me because I strongly feel a citizen of the world. I do not see myself part of any cluster. I want to be an active member of my community but I want to be part of several communities.
I witnessed true comradery, I learned how to be compassionate and experienced a love I’ve never known before. I learned how to give without expectations of something in return (other than the good feeling accompanied by it), I learned to never judge a book by its cover, be grateful for what you have because some aren’t as fortunate, and most importantly be kind to everyone!
Many human development specialists have examined memory loss of adults later in life. During the past fifty years, there have been many studies in children’s cognitive development and earlier childhood memory loss. Ernest G. Schachtel conducted studies on why people forget childhood memories as they grow older. He described the processes that could be involved in early memory loss (Crain, 2005). He was influenced by Sigmund Freud’s cognitive theory (Crain, 2005). Lev S. Vygotsky, however, described children’s early memory development as a holistic process that involved society, physiological, cultural, and economical environments. (Vygotsky,
There is a lot of things that I have learned about myself in the past few weeks of this course. I have learned many things about myself that I would have never known if it was not for this course. I have learned about my; self concept, attitudes and feelings. I have also learned about social influence, group dynamics and relationships. I learned about myself and how to describe the way that I am and the way that I think.
Throughout the semester, my experience with the new mentors (Cayla & Isaiah) was nothing short of productive. We discussed number of challenges and worked out pragmatic strategies to meet individual objectives. The first log filling illustrated our initial interactions up until about halfway through the semester. Together we made it a point to grow and continue our journey of scholastic leadership for the mentees under our direction and for ourselves. Cayla and Isaiah demonstrated the propensity to adapt to different personalities and offer instructive guidance to each of their students. It was an honor and I am proud to have been their emeriti mentor and look forward to what they will both accomplish in the future.
This semester in Child Development has helped me a great deal. I came into this class wanting to be a Child Development teacher at the high school level. I am leaving this class with the same ambition to become a Child Development teacher. I have learned so much by taking this class and I know it will all be helpful in the future once I am standing at the front of a classroom. Also, just by watching the way Mary teaches the class, I have learned things that I want to take into my own style of teaching.
Development is defined as “the process of change operating over time- the process by which countries and societies advance and become richer’’. The modern 20th century defines development as” the process of change which allows all the basic needs of a region to be met, thereby achieving greater social justice and quality of life and encouraging people to fulfill their potential’’. Todaro defines development as “the process of improving the quality of all human lives through raising people’s living standards, their incomes, consumption levels of food, medical services, education, raising people’s self-esteem through the establishment of social, political and economic systems and institutions that promote dignity and respect and increasing people’s
I learned a great deal about the classroom environment, classroom administration, and classroom procedures in the special education. There is a great deal of preparation and training for professionals in special education. I got a closer examination and engagement with these kinds of
