Cells are very diverse and important things. In fact, they are the building blocks of life itself. Without cells there would be no life, and without life the earth would be a desolate wasteland. Thankfully, cells do exist and are all around us allowing life as we know it to continue on. The cell can be compared to many things, from the extreme complexity of the universe to the painfully simple function of a room. To meet in the middle of the almost unimaginably complex and the mind numbingly simple, one could compare a cell to a car. Just like a cell a car has different parts that make it function to its fullest potential, there are a lot of different individual parts and pieces that work together to drive the vehicle forward. Each of these necessary parts can be compared to the basic function of the organelles in a Eukaryotic cell. The nucleus of a Eukaryotic cell is the largest organelle within the cell. It stores all of the information and dictates what the cell will do and how it will function. The nucleus essentially “knows” what tasks need to be done and has the blueprints to get said tasks done. The nucleus of the cell is like the diver of a car. The driver controls all of the main functions of the car, the accelerator and the brakes, all of the turn signals and the other miscellaneous buttons and knobs within the car itself. Breaking down an organism leads scientists to identify cells. A group of cells create tissues, tissues combined are organs, and organs and their functions make up systems. Basically, cells make up living organisms. There are 2 kinds of cells: Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic. Within a prokaryotic, it doesn’t contain a DNA bounded nucleus; however, a eukaryotic cell does. Though the prokaryotic cell differs from a eukaryotic cell, they share a cell membrane. The cell membrane is composed of a phospholipid bilayer and proteins, which makes it selectively permeable. It is located outside of the cytoplasm and controls the movement of substances in and out of the cell. Its basic function is to protect the cell from its surroundings by selecting what can enter and exit the cell.
A cell membrane regulates what enters and leaves the cell. It is like a gate in a city because it regulates who comes in and goes out of the city. A nucleus is the control center of the cell. It is like a police department because the police control how everyone and everything acts. A ribosome synthesizes proteins for the cell. A ribosome is like a factory that produces stuff for construction workers. The ER synthesizes lipid membranes and proteins and transports stuff. It is like a manufacturing plant because it makes stuff just like the ER.
A cell can be compared to many things in life. We all have things around us that can work of the way cells do. I will be comparing a cell to a football team because a football team has many parts that can be compared and have similarities that they can be compared to one another.

For hundreds of years, man has tried to crack its codes, to try and find what makes it tick; but it seems that the deeper we go into the study of cells, the more questions appear too. The purpose of this entire essay is to educate my readers on cells, our discovery of cells and the cell theory, where we believe they first appeared, and how we have learned to manipulate cells to cure diseases like cancer. I will also talk about how our knowledge of cells has changed our medicine and agriculture, and how ethnic some of these changes are.
Organelles are the internal structures of the cell that are important for the cell to survive. Each organelle has a specific function for the cell. The types of organelles in the cell can be different from each other depending on the type of cell. Plant cells and animal cells both have a cytoskeleton, endoplasmic reticulum (smooth and rough), golgi apparatus, mitochondrion, nucleus, plasma membrane, and ribosomes. Animal and plant cells also have vacuoles, but they are rarely found in animal cells. Vacuoles in animal cells are very small compared to the vacuoles in plant cells. Lysosomes are also rarely found in plant cells but mostly found in animal cells.
