SUBJECT: The United States Army Human Dimensions Concept
1. Purpose: To provide guidance on the United States Army Human Dimensions Concept and how it will be applied to Army Civilians and Soldiers. The information provided is in accordance with TRADOC Pam 525-3-7 and The Human Dimension White Paper.
2. Background: With the continue cut back on authorized Soldiers in the Army and the always evolving battlefield, the Army is demanding more from its most agile asset. Being a well-rounded leader and expertise in your career management field is becoming more important than ever. The Army is implementing the use of the Human Dimension Concept to provide each individual the tools to optimize

The future operational environment: The evolution of war has become more complex. The enemy now has capabilities to attack from unknown position or may even blend in with the local population. The operational environment is changing at an accelerating speed and requires leaders to remain in a cognitive mindset at all times.
4. The squad: The squad level will remain the foundation of the Army. More importance will be put on the squad’s ability to adapt to new TTPs and work together as a team using new sciences and technologies. The Human Dimensions Concept will help find a balance to optimize the potential of each squad while maximizing physical health.
5. Military problem: The continuous change in today’s battlefield increases the difficulty of anticipating our enemy’s threats. For example, the increase for Cyber Warfare Defenders and Cyber Operations Officers have increased in the Army due to the evolution of our enemy’s tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP). Since the Army is struggling to combat the wide range of threats, we must focus on optimizing our most agile resources.

Components of the solution:
a. Cognitive: Cognitive greatly contributes to the ability to adapt. Training Soldiers in a more dynamic aspect will help improve repetition, memory, intellect, aptitude, learning and decision-making abilities. The Army will improve its current learning model by putting more emphasis on unit level training, PME, and talent management.
b. Physical: The Army is implementing an educational health program currently known as the performance triad. This program is designed to heighten the state of a person’s overall wellness. Personal wellness encompasses physical, emotional, and cognitive wellness. Soldiers will be taught to possess an internal mindset to optimize their health and improve on becoming a Professional Soldier Athlete.
c. Social: The Army can be looked at as a social melting pot. To be “socially fit” means leaders must be capable of communicating with all levels throughout the ranks no matter the cultural and ethical background. Being socially fit tends to create a more resilient individual who is more likely to with stand the negative effects of stress and
The most important imperative of four in the Army Campaign Plan is “develop leaders to meet the challenges of the 21st century” because in the future leaders will deal a “tough realistic environment” and must be willing to adapt to the mission, threat or operational environment. We must “train soldiers and leaders to ensure they are prepared to accomplish the mission across the range of military operations while operating in complex environments against determined, adaptive enemy organizations . This is the eighth of twenty Army Warfighting Challenges enduring first order problems, the solutions to which will improve current and future force combat effectiveness. These challenges are reviewed and updated as needed to remain applicable for the future force.
The question we must ask ourselves is what exactly the Profession of Arms is and what is our role as Human Resource Sergeants (HR Sergeants) what is it that we bring to the fight, what’s our contribution to the Army’s overall objective. As we emerge from years of war, from constant back to back deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq, we find ourselves in an era of persistent conflicts where we find ourselves embroiled in conflicts all around the world. In a world that seems more dangerous today than it was yesterday it is important we remain vigilant and remain capable of fighting and winning our nations wars. We must never forget the ethics instilled upon us by the Army. We must hold fast to our Army Values to which our profession is
The United States military is downsizing, becoming a more fit and agile military. Due to this action the Army has come up with a program to place Soldiers in a field that they can perform at their maximum capacity physically and mentally. This program is called Soldier 2020, it is in its final testing stages even though parts of this program have already been integrated into TRADOC.
Performance triad was developed to improve performance, resilience, and readiness in the army. Performance Triad was developed by Army medicine to maintain healthy lifestyle for soldiers and their family. It is important for all soldiers to be in their best physical and mental condition and be ready for any challenges ahead them. A healthy mind and body improves overall performance of all soldiers. Performance triad is a tool to measure how an individual is doing in these particular areas; activity, nutrition and sleep. These three areas are the foundation of good health and battle readiness for a soldier. Studies have shown how performance triad can increase and improve a soldier’s performance in the army. This essay discusses in details how effective performance triad is to the Army Personnel.
The potential of providing information or sharing information with agencies or personnel without proper authorization can be detrimental to the mission and the personnel involved. Working in a Joint/Combined nature of the Contemporary Operational Environment (COE) leads to numerous considerations of security when it comes to information sharing and intelligence productions. COE is the combination or current and near term operational environment variables with capabilities. It is based on the composite of potential adversaries in order to create a wide array of conditions necessary for full spectrum training and leader development. Sea, land, air, and space make up the COE in both the physical and technological aspect (Headquarters
As a part of the FY17 Future Warfare Study Framework, the HD Concept is revised to provide relevant operational context in order to better identify first-order human performance requirements for Soldier and Team overmatch. This context would help refine the nature and characteristics of future warfare and inform not only our thinking about “How the Army Fights,” but equally important “How Humans
Combatant Commanders and their subordinate Joint Force Commanders (JFCs) in response to contingencies and crises use joint operation planning that transforms national strategic objectives into joint military operations. In order to describe ways and means to achieve desired ends, and develop plans and orders, the commanders use operational art, operational design, and the Joint Operational Planning Process. However, identifying the correct problem commanders are facing is crucial for all further planning and actions, and operational design will help them develop operational approach. Operational design is the process that helps commanders frame and understand the problem , and it consists of various elements that will help in
As stewards of our profession, commanders ensure that military expertise continues to develop and be passed on to aspiring professionals through operational development. It is during this developmental phase that Professional Soldiers put their knowledge and skills to the test. Operational Army units certify and recertify their Professional Soldiers through repetitive and realistic training events including the Combat Life Saver Course, platoon live fires, and exercises at the National Training Center. In the course of these challenging and realistic experiences, the Army’s operational units develop Soldiers and leaders prepared to maintain high standards, discipline, and operational readiness. Operational development and adaptability will continue to drive changes in Army doctrine, organization, leadership, and education as we enter the post-war era. Without this kind of development, the Army could not maintain a well-disciplined professional fighting force.
e. Enables the Army to achieve individual, professional, and unit development to increase the operational effectiveness.
Any member of a military force are taken as someone ready to serve at any moment, with all his/her skills, intelligence, strength and presence of mind; much like someone readily set on the starting track, totally geared up to run from the moment 'go'. This explains how much preparation it takes to condition one's body and mind to attain that level of ability and agility. It requires a continuous, disciplined practice of skills as well as lifestyle conducive to retain and augment those skills.
Western society has centuries of military history, and as a legacy, today almost every military organization rely on technology and tends to have the most superior technology, which will be used in order to reduce its casualties and make total destruction of enemy forces. For example, nuclear, biological and chemical weapons as a weapons of mass destruction. Furthermore, the use of all sorts of unmanned aircrafts that caries devastating deadly force. Considering innovations in the military institution, it is clear that there is bigger guarantee of success by innovations. Railroad and communication still play crucial role in present militaries. Continuous innovations are present in changing of tactics, techniques and procedures in order to fallow the present threats. Little has been change in determining the decisive point and action, and also for present conflicts is the destruction of the army or capturing the capital. The most present example of decisive point is the second golf war where the US troops and the coalition invaded Iraq. First decisive point was the destruction of the Iraqi army and second decisive point was capturing the capital. And now we are all witnessing the battle for Mosul as a decisive point in defeating the Islamic state. Armies of the 21 century are characterized by strong discipline and training as a legacy
Adaptive leadership is becoming widespread in the United States Army amongst junior officers in leadership positions that require quick thinking and innovation. Leonard Wong discusses how the versatile and unpredictable enemy and situations in Iraq produces adaptable junior officers. These officers are learning to make decisions under chaotic conditions and are becoming more mentally agile. The Army is changing. The Army is transforming its capabilities in the war in Iraq to be effective and successful. General Schoomaker states that we will not accomplish our goals as a nation in the 21st century unless our Army becomes much more agile but with the capacity for long term, sustained level of conflict. The Army is in the process of
Adaptation in the military, especially during wartime, is a known need. The adage “no plan survives first contact” was not created because it sounds cool. It is an ominous warning that at some point while executing your plan, you will be faced with unanticipated and unplanned for situations to which you will have to adapt. Adaptation is a skill that must be attained, yet is very difficult to learn and even more difficult to achieve effectively. Every military organization, regardless of nationality, location, posture, etc., will be required to adapt and their ability to do so effectively may very well decide their success.
* With the development of new warfare technology during WWII, the need for a greater understanding of human performance came to prominence. Problems such as how to best train soldiers to use new technology and how to deal with matters of attention while under duress became areas of need for military personnel. Behaviorism provided little if any insight into these matters and it was the work of Donald Broadbent, integrating concepts from human performance research and the recently developed information theory, that forged the way in this area.[4]
Translated by Samuel B. Griffith, The Art of War is a timeless classic on military strategy. Over time, the book has been used as a point of reference by military strategists, chiefs of corporations, and business executives. To win in any undertaking, be it in business or warfare, one should be an excellent planner. In addition to understanding the weaknesses as well as strengths of the enemy (or competitor), one should also be able to carry out a comprehensive evaluation of the environment. This way, it becomes easy to develop an effective strategy to enhance victory. Environment in this case could be taken to represent either the battlefield or the business environment. The Art of War offers a comprehensive (and exciting) analysis of tactical maneuvering, the utilization of force, siege planning, conflict management, etc.
