Abstract The study will explore the impacts of group dynamics on the productivity of an organization. Survey will be used as the method of study, where a convenience sample will be selected and the units of analysis arrived at using the stratified sampling method. The sample size will be determined by randomly selecting a sufficient number of both male and female non-managerial employees. The number of female respondents should be approximately equal to the number of male respondents to reduce the chances of making representation mistakes. Questionnaires will be given out to the respondents to save on the amount of time spent on data collection. Outline I. Introduction II. Problem Statement III. Hypothesis IV. Conclusion References Impacts of Group Dynamics on the Productivity of an Organization Introduction In many companies, employees come from different cultural backgrounds, families, countries and sometimes continents. Companies also employ people who belong to different sexes and age groups. Whenever people with different cultural orientations and attitudes come together, conflicts are likely to arise. The occurrence of conflicts in companies can cause drastic effects on the productivity of the company. However, the different groups integrate easily and form friendship with each other. The reason for this unexpected situation is the existence of more uniting
Cross cultural conflict can also be a factor in the workplace. The United States is an extremely diverse place, as a conglomeration of people from different races, religions, cultural backgrounds, personalities, educational experiences and learning styles. This diversification leads to more women, various ethnic groups, and immigrant workers working together in a more diverse tapestry of associates even when the corporation is located and operating only in the United States. In increasingly diverse corporate America, doing
According to behavioral theories of communication and decision-making the rational solution to a problem is not always the best answer. Therefore, when diversity creates controversy, which inhibits the development of an organization, the organization is forced to adopt other useful tactics that would result in positive outcomes. This document will focus on several aspects of cross-cultural conflicts; A)
People from different cultural background work together can have positive effect, since they can provide various perspectives on solving problems, attracting consumers, and cooperating with fellow workers. These new and various ideas can help our company to promote and take step into an amazing future.
As times are changing, so is the world’s vision of normal. Discrimination and segregation were a huge part of history, but the fact is that in this modern society, culture diversity is the new norm. Companies and organizations incorporate culture diversity in the workplace due to the benefits of various experiences, language skills, and productivity. Employees are the face of the company, and if they have the mentality of prejudice and ethnocentrism, it can affect the success of the business. While most people understand that the world is a melting pot, discrimination still exists in this world and these people are at a disadvantage. Whether it is because they are living in the past, had a bad experience, or have not been exposed to it, the world is a melting pot of culture, gender, and ethnicity. Regardless of how we are different, once “we can learn to appreciate that differences do matter and that becoming aware of those differences will make interactions with others much easier” (Devry University, n.d.).
In group dynamics, the attitudes and behaviors of a group are the main concern to any therapist. More so, the way the group is formed, its structure and processes involved in its running are equally important. People in a particular group share a common vision to help achieve the goals they set. When creating a group, one should take into consideration the type of group to create, the target population and the purpose of the group. In this project I will create a therapy group and address the necessary information required.
As the demographic changes throughout the country shape the infinite amount of social environments. Now more than ever will there be an emergence of new contexts for cross cultural problems. This contexts are brought about by passages of legislation like the Civil Rights Act, changes in economic uncertainties and a plethora of other issues. Although some of these issues are older than others they all require a revisiting in order to prevent and resolve employee problems. This is due to the fact that these new issues and recurrences will always find their way into the workplace as individuals interact with each other, and share ideas or opinions.
The United States is often referred to as a “melting pot” because of the diversity of its people. People from hundreds of countries with different cultures, languages, religious beliefs, and different ethnicities have come to the United States seeking a better opportunities and a better way of life. Melting pot is defined as “a place where a variety of races, cultures, or individuals assimilate into a cohesive whole” (Merriam-Webster, n.d.). For the purpose of analyzing diversity in the workplace, it is necessary to also define “cohesion.” Cohesion is defined as the act or state of sticking together tightly; especially: unity” (Merriam-Webster, n.d.).
Culture in the workplace can be a barrier that obstructs the good communication between people with different backgrounds. The main challenge that people face is language. This is because it is a very complex thing, and misuse of one word can change the meaning of the message. Also, hostile stereotypes can affect communication because the stereotypes only create a barrier of characteristics towards other people that prevents to have a good interaction. Behavior differences is also an obstacle to communication, this is because the cultures have guidelines of what is considered appropriate for their society. On the other hand, the demonstration of emotions is also considered a challenge, because what for some cultures is appropriate for others

This is a case study of Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team and how group dynamics play a key role in teamwork. From my understanding in class and playing for SMSU, I will explain how a group of individuals worked together to achieve a common goal. But, First, I will define group dynamics and how group decision making helped the team succeed as a group. Secondly, I will discuss the significant role of skills development. Most importantly, I will point out the variety of disabilities we share as athletes. Then again, groups can run into trouble, and it is useful to be aware of these issues, and the appropriate solutions right from the start. However, after reading this case study, you will be informed about how wheelchair athletes cope with group decision making, skills development, social comparison, and conflict between group members.
I can definitely contribute to a group dynamic in a variety of ways as a result of the experiences that I have had working in a team environment in sports and in my working life. I have developed leadership skills and am a reliable person. I like to take up challenges and work through them, as well as organize and make sure that every part of our plan is executed. With that being said, I am also a very positive person and love to have fun! Therefore, I would contribute to a group dynamic by being a dependable team member that is energetic and well-rounded in skill set, who would be open to taking charge and helping in whatever ways
a) There are many ways to communicate effectively with your group, and there can be many reasons why some groups communicate poorly. Valentine Belonwu states, many points on group dynamics and effective group communication, (Belonwu, 2013).
The importance of understanding cultural, ethnic and gender differences by managers and professionals in a business setting is essential to make the work environment comfortable. In every culture there are basic standards of thinking, and acting and these cultural differences strongly influence workplace values and communication. What may be considered acceptable and natural in the workplace for one person may be unacceptable for another person. People from diverse cultures bring new ways of thinking, creativity and language skills needed to survive in today’s work force. In many
According to (Morris, 2005) “Team dynamics encompasses any and all ways that individual affiliates interact with their counterparts en route to the common goal. The overall
The workplace has become one of the biggest multicultural settings. Almost half of the work force in the United States is made up of minorities. There are many advantages to having this percentage of people from different cultures throughout our workplace. One is the increase in creativeness. Not only in products that are being created but in the developing of an approach to solving problems. "Other cultures can offer insightful alternatives" (EthoConnect). Another way in which the workplace is affected by this is in productivity and attitudes. When people of all cultures pull together to reach a common goal there are less limited boundaries and there are more global understanding that are used to help reach the world's market place; creating a larger market for products. With this change in productivity in the workplace is more desirable and enjoyable for all employees. The market place has become more global based that workers having a diverse culture base is very important to break down barriers in language and knowledge of certain markets. This affects our lives by more companies hiring more international job seekers.
