Teachers and coaches are professionals in the our society who provide self worth, impart encouragement, and educate their students to become greater individuals in their adult lives. Becoming a teacher takes hard work, dedication, and discipline. Without teachers, people would be uneducated and would have no idea on how to perform or thrive in the real world. They reveal the knowledge necessary for each individual to find his or her own calling. When it comes to salary, teachers are not worried about the money because they care deeply about their students and the progress they make in their educational and daily lives. It takes excessive amounts of time to become a teacher, create lessons and assessments for students. The reason for this is that they have so much cover so many objectives in a finite amount of time. Sometimes teachers take multiple days to complete a lesson so the students are able to comprehend what they have learned and how they can apply the topic to future lessons. Coaches particularly do the same thing for example, after practices and games they critique their players on what they did wrong, need more practice on, and how they executed a play. Coaches are the hardest working people in the whole school because they spend multiple hours throughout the week outside the classroom pouring life into their athletes to make them succeed. When people think of teachers, many of them expect for them to have graduated from a college and having a master´s degree. Although many teachers do have a masters degree, it only takes a bachelor's degree to have the certification to teach in their designated subject (Yager). Also, in one of their college classes they are sent off to a school level that they are interested in go off and observe a teacher at their job. Throughout the course of the semester, the student teacher will eventually end up taking over the classroom to see what it feels like to teach. A professor ends up coming to the student teachers school to observe them to see if they are up for the task to become a teacher. Many teachers decide they want to move up a level from being a teacher. Teachers that obtain a masterś degree in Educational Leadership and Principal Certification can take
Teachers have the power to change the world and to make a difference in the student's life. Teacher is a facilitator of knowledge, motivator, advisor and a positive person that can improve the student's education. I decided to pursue the career of education because I have the desire to help others. I also have the ambition to provide encouragement and support to the people that need it. Becoming a teacher means more than sharing my knowledge to the students. It is a commitment with society to shape the performance and learning of future generations.
Being a teacher involves a lot of things, a bachelor’s degree, a pretty good salary, a new location, and hazards and benefits. This topic is significant, because as a teacher you have the responsibility of teaching kids what they need to know in the future, and they get to watch them grow in some many different
One of the most commonly asked questions to a teacher is,“why do you want to be a teacher?”. Some myths about teaching is teachers are heroes, the pay is bad, students are brats, and you cannot just leave your classroom to use the bathroom. These are some of the common myths portrayed on television and in society that is not accurate. Not everything you hear or see on television about teaching is true. There may be times where you want to pull your hair out due to student behavior or wish the wage was higher, but the job is not about that. Teaching is about loving children and wanting to educate them so they can in return help us in the future by being doctors, lawyers, etc... Therefore, teachers get the wrong impression, because they are either looked at as a hero in someone's life or not knowing anything about their job.
Being a teacher is a great job. They help shape each generation that comes through their classroom. They work through each student’s strengths and weaknesses to help them grow and possibly lead them into the career they love. Teachers are unique because they are what make a person. Not only do they shape their students, but the students also shape
Being a teacher is more than just a job, as we all know the pay isn’t all that great. Not to mention the incredibly long hours. A teacher works from 8 to 3, how can that be true? Well, being a teacher is about going above and beyond. They have to put in many hours of work before and after school. Planning lessons takes time, time the teacher doesn’t have during the school day. It’s not as simple as just giving out a worksheet and saying this is due tomorrow and moving on. This may work for older students however, this does not work for the lower grades. They need instruction, guidance, examples, and support.
Many incoming teachers believe that they are called upon to become an educator. They love kids and think it’s important to help the future generation.
Teaching can be a rewarding profession, but it can also be a cause of stress for some. Conflicts arise in any situation where groups of people are placed together. A classroom filled with students will inevitably face conflicts. How the teacher approaches and solves these will determine the outcome of feeling successful or stressed.
What makes a great teacher, is a simple question, that might seem to have an obvious answer, however, the answers may not be so simple. When I asked my former teachers “What Makes A Great Teacher,” my geometry teacher responded with: patience, determination, passion, confidences, self discipline, and organizational skills. These are qualities that when combined equal a great mentor. It is self explanatory as to why a teacher would need to have skills such as patience and organizational skills. Most of the research discussed being organized and patient but the qualities of confidence and self discipline were not mentioned. When I interview my teacher I was stunned by her answers of confidence and self discipline, since her answer was unique. She is correct in the sense that to become a successful teacher it is important to be grounded and confident.
Being a teacher is a tough and very demanding job. Let alone being a coach on top of teaching five or six classes a day. We all know that teachers are not in education for the money and many would say that they are underpaid and deserve more benefits. I of course, agree with that statement. Teachers work very hard day in and day out to help make sure the future of our country receives the best education that they can get. Another tough part about being a teacher, and another reason why they should receive benefits, is the extra hours that they spend away from their families to make sure that the students get every opportunity to learn the material. In my studies about being a coach and a teacher I have found the average salary, qualifications of being a coach and a teacher, responsibilities of a coach, responsibilities of a teacher, the education and training of being a coach and teacher, and the requirements needed to apply for a coaching or teaching job.
I began my quest with the goal to examine how I can better prepare pre-service by asking, what is a good teacher educator? What knowledge, skills, or competencies should a teacher educator possess? Little is known about the professional quality of teacher educators (Koster, Brekelmans, Korthagen, & Wubbels, 2005; Zeichner, 1999). It is problematic that many assume that an effective teacher will make a good teacher educator (Korthagen, Loughran, & Lunenberg, 2005) or conversely, that an effective teacher educator will make a good teacher (Ritter, 2014). These views suggest that teacher educators are neither particularly specialized nor highly valued (Korthagen et al., 2005). As noted in Chapter 1, these assumptions are inconsistent with the growing body of research describing the expertise required for teacher educators (Korthagen et al., 2005; Koster et al., 2005; Loughran & Russell, 2007; Murray & Male, 2005). Additionally, when viewed through a constructivist lens, the importance of the teacher educator is heightened when one acknowledges that the teacher educator facilitates the students’ development of their own knowledge and skills (Korthagen et al., 2005).
You probably already know that working an eight-hour job is not fun, so imagine having a job that requires hours of overtime and dedication to fulfill necessary standards with no additional benefit and a low income. This is a teaching job. Teachers are required to work their normal school day and then additional hours in order to be successful at their job. Many teachers arrive to school early and stay late, often helping students in after school tutoring. Most likely, these teachers will have to take additional work home with them in order to be prepared for the next day. This, more than likely, is not a job just anyone would want. Many work more hours than the average worker, yet are not equally paid (Hanushek, E. A., & Rivkin, S. G., 2007). According to Wanda Gregory, a retired teacher of thirty years, “Teachers will stay after school to tutor children to make extra money because their salaries are not making the cut”. In the article Teachers’ work patterns: when, where, and how much do U.S. teachers work, it discusses the fact that teachers dedicate more than full-time to their careers (Krantz-Kent, Rachel, 2008). The teaching career doesn’t include going to school to do your job and being completely done at the end of the day. Most teachers go home to do more work, like grading papers or after school tutoring. Teachers are the foundation of education for future lawyers, doctors, inventors, scientists, and many more. According to the article The Payment of American
“Part of being a teacher is bringing work home” (Kelly). Teachers are constantly surrounded by assignments, that need to be graded, which means that they are constantly working even when they are not physically inside a classroom setting. Therefore, it is important for a teacher to have a strong worth ethic. When I interviewed the student’s one of the students said that a great teacher needs to be responsible. Responsibility plays a huge role, when it comes to being an efficient teacher. When I asked the student to elaborate on what he meant by responsibility he spoke about how teachers should respond to emails throughout the day. As Mr. Kelly mentioned, part of being a teacher means bringing work home.
Education is about in-parting knowledge based on one’s belief, truth and justification with the purpose of surviving in this changing world. Highly educated people are well recognized and given high reputation in the society. Hence, teaching is a process of sharing information between the teacher and students in a positive, caring, changing and stress free environment where new knowledge must be constructed and tested through student – teacher interaction using different strategies so that children could master knowledge and skills of desired fields including values, ethics, and other social knowledge. To fulfill this purpose, teachers should be active, forward thinking, energetic, knowledgeable, sincere and punctual for changing one’s truth, belief and justification. To satisfy these educational needs, learning should be a fun mechanism for students in which they enjoy by responding, interacting, socializing, inventing, sharing, discovering and deciding about knowledge, skills, values, ethics and discipline by expressing a permanent change in behaviour. As learning is defined as a permanent change in behaviour, it is teacher’s interest to consider teaching as a personal challenge in which students are diverted to a more progressive learning environment where they make their own judgment based on what they experience with exposure to real life like activities. With this as teacher’s interest in the field, it is a sensation for them to focus on the whole child
Teachers involving students in the learning process should require them to utilize thinking skills of higher order. Teachers should also designed lesson plans that are rigorous but can be adaptable to each student (whether students are general or special education) in the class. Educators should have activities that will nurture social development and student responsibilities, as this will give them the opportunity to exercise responsibility and practice interacting with others. Due to the fact students are in high school, there are no rewards for good behavior being practice. However, punishment in the class will be dealt with immediately in order to provide a stable environment of teaching and learning; as policy and procedure is addressed for misconduct at the beginning of the year
The first of the five is aptitude. Being a post secondary history teacher means you need to have good aptitude. According to the bureau of labor statics“Aptitude means the ability to do something or the natural ability to do something.” You need to be able to do basic skills but also be able to learn new skills. The bureau also states“A postsecondary teacher needs to have good critical thinking skills to conduct research experiments.” As a teacher you would need to go out into the field and learn/ study about you topic. A third thing the bureau says is “These teachers need good Interpersonal skills to work well with other and have good communication skills” When you are teaching you will be in front of students teaching or talking about the subject and without communication skills you would not be able to teach. According to the college board“A good post secondary teacher needs to be resourcefulness they need to be able to adapt their teaching style to the student's learning style.” You need to be prepared for any type of student who walks into your classroom. Also according to the college board“The teacher needs to have good writing skills in order to publish their findings and research” As i said before you will be publishing work you find. Without good writing skills you will not be able to do this task.
