Water plays a vital role in everyday life, from quenching your thirst on a hot summer day, to being one of the main ingredient of life in all aspects on earth.
Recently, Georgia has been under a severe water drought. Lake Lanier in Georgia, which is a major supply of drinking water to its state, and neighboring states Alabama, and Florida; has been at its lowest in years. Georgia’s drought is certainly due to the lack of precipitation; therefore, creating water levels to decline more rapidly as time progresses. The state has now asked its homeowners to monitor their water usage, which includes watering lawns, washing cars, and other outside water activities.

One of Georgia’s main drinking water source is supplied from its man-made lake located in Hall County, which is approximately 45 miles north of its capital Atlanta. Lake Sidney Lanier, water levels are currently at a frightening low point. According to USA Today, a federal judge recently ruled, that the metropolitan Atlanta has been illegally taking water from Lake Lanier, because he states the lake was built for hydroelectric power generation and other uses — not for drinking water. (usatoday.com) Lake Sidney Lanier has also provided its neighbors Alabama, and Florida water, and is currently in a “water war”. Congress is currently forcing these three states to come up with a solution, to evenly distribute water amongst them in the near future, before there are forced to relocate the water at Lake Lanier. If the problem persists, it can actually be devastating in the state of Georgia; Commissioner Charles Bannister, said that Lake Lanier could actually become a dessert if it’s ever drained. However, the state representative is very confident that a solution will be meet in the near future. This current conflict has put a strain on the local environment economically according to leaders in Apalachicola, Fla., who say their seafood industry has been hammered by lower stream levels caused by Atlanta's withdrawals. Georgia’s farm life are taking a direct punch from this crisis. In article, “Newton farmers struggling to produce in the midst of drought”, I’ve thought how farmers are dealing with this current drought situation? Since Georgia is known as the “Peach State”, as one of its famous nickname. Well, farmers in Newton County, Georgia are definitely feeling the effects with “corn yields in the county are half of what they were last year, and soybeans – barely a quarter of last year’s output”(Rimal, G 2016). According to farmers, the lack of rain has a ripple effect from not only damages it has on the crops and livestock; 1 but the lively hood of farmers, and their families. Farmers speaks about an abundance of armyworms, that if there is “any remaining green grass or hay left, armyworms will easily devour them” (Rimal, G 2016). Therefore, knowing how vital water is, farmers in Newton County Georgia, are continuing to remain optimistic in hopes next season will be
Water is one of the most precious resources, which support the life of almost everything in the world. Indeed, the world is covered by 75% water, but most of this water is not suitable for human consumption or use. On the same note, the world has been increasing its consumption of water due to the increasing population, leading to increased demands. The increased water consumption, which has been a result of high population, is worrying because the matter may lead to massive water shortages in the future.
The general population of the State of Georgia are reliant upon the waterways, streams, lakes, and subsurface waters for open and private water supply, and agrarian, modern, and recreational employments. The Georgia Water Quality Control Act (WQCA) (O.C.G.A. § 12-5-2) represents the effects on the water amount and quality inside the State of Georgia. The Environmental Protection Division (EPD) of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is charged to build up and keep up the quality and amount of Georgia's water assets (O.C.G.A § 12-5-21(b)). It is Georgia's arrangement that water assets be used judiciously for the most extreme advantage of the general population, keeping in mind the end goal to reestablish and keep up a sensible level of
In the past, Georgia has experienced several droughts that impacted Georgia economically and politically. Because of this, states and counties downstream have been harmed
due to Georgia’s unwillingness to agree to any real restrictions on water use by metro Atlanta. This paper will outline why new
The Chattahoochee River begins in the springs of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Georgia. It forms the border between Georgia and Alabama with the final destination the same as the Flint’s, Lake Seminole. The Chattahoochee watershed area has a warm and humid temperate climate. The river has quite a history with evidence of humans living along its shores since 1,000 B.C.E. Even up to this day, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama fight over Chattahoochee water rights. The Chattahoochee runs for 434 river miles and has a watershed area of 8770 square miles. Uniquely, this river is the second southernmost trout habitat in the United States. It is also the most heavily used surface water body in Georgia. Seventy percent of metro-Atlanta’s drinking water comes from the Chattahoochee. In fact, there are thirteen dams along the river. However, the Chattahoochee is also very polluted. Polluted storm water is the primary cause of water quality problems. There are around 500 industrial sites not complying with clean water laws along the river. As aforementioned, the Flint River and Chattahoochee River both deposit into Lake Seminole. These two rivers leave the lake as one new river, the Apalachicola
Texas, with its abundances of natural resources, is facing a new demon, one that doesn’t even seem possible, a shortage of water. Water, without it nothing can survive. Texas is the second largest state for landmass in the nation and ninth for water square miles. Within the borders of Texas are more than 100 lakes, 14 major rivers, and 23 aquifers, so why has water become such an important issue for the state? Politicians and conservationists all agree that without a new working water plan, the state could be facing one of the most damaging environmental disasters they have ever seen. The issues that shape the states positions are population growth, current drought conditions, and who actually owns the water.
Water governance in this case is not limited to even the state of Georgia’s government to handle despite most of the system traveling through Georgia. Controversy arises
Due to the lack of rain in the past few years, and particularly in the last few months, California faces severe drought. This is the worst drought in more than one hundred years. The impact of California drought affects community, agriculture, organic ranchers, and dairy farmers. Because of these facts, the United States must rethink the way it uses water. Californians alone are asked to reduce their water usage by twenty percent to prevent water waste.
Due to the shut off many farmers did not get the rationing of water they need to plant, so many fields will sit idle this fall and spring. California produces 53% of the nation’s fruits and vegetables. California is also the leading food producer to the world. Some people do not even know California is facing a water crisis, and more of them did not know California is the Nation’s food producer. In a recent survey 76% knew of the water crisis; however, only 56% of them knew that California is the leading food producer. With many of the state’s fields sitting idle this fall and spring it is going to cause the produce prices to increase. It also causes the loss of thousands of jobs. An outraged woman spoke out about the
Specific purpose statement: To persuade my audience to take action in order to conserve one of the most finite and precious resources we have in the U.S.
Water is essential for life as we know it on earth. It is used by plants
Water is one of the most important elements on Earth and also for our body. We need water to work and function properly and well. Without enough supply of water, our body will grind to a halt and collapse.
Water is essential for life on earth. Water is needed for growing food, keeping ourselves clean, generating power, controlling fire and most importantly to stay alive! This list is simply non-ending. This shows that water is an integral part of our daily life and we are heavily dependent on it.
As you can see, water plays a major role in many factors of your body.
