Education is essential to help kids develop the skills necessary to prepare them for the modern world. Furthermore, education endows kids with the ability to be independent, creative, and innovative learners, which can help encourage kids to take on greater tasks. However, most schools lack the support for greater student success because they have outdated textbooks, bad school facilities, and no student autonomy. Therefore, holding back students from realizing their full potential and rendering them vulnerable to challenges. In order for students to become greater critical thinkers the federal government must reform the educational system and increase school funds so that schools can replace older textbooks with new ones, improve educational facilities, and permit greater student autonomy
One way to help develop critical thinking skills in students is by purchasing up to date textbooks with the use of greater government funding. In addition, politicians know the importance of education, but choose to neglect the educational system if it involves money. For example, in Idiot Nation Michael Moore argues why politicians are to blame for obsolete books stating, "... you'll find students learning from textbooks published in the 1980s or earlier. Why is this? Because political leaders and the people who vote for them have decided it's a bigger priority to build another bomber than to educate our children (131)." In other words, politicians don't concern themselves with
America’s education system is a disaster and the government has over the years spent millions on fixing the education system. The government has failed in fixing the education system because they are not the real people who can fix it. The government has made many different programs to fix the education system, like the No Child left behind program. Most people blame the government for spending millions to fix the education system and failing. What our society does not understand is that the government can only fix so much. It is time for all students, parents, and teachers to take responsibly and fix the education system in the way they want. Students, parents and teachers can make the education system better by students taking control of their own education, parents who care for their kid’s education and teachers who make amazing learning environment for their students.
Education is important for the future leaders. However, an education is more than achieving the “American dream” of receiving a high school diploma, bachelor degree, master degree, or doctorate degree. Moreover, education allows an individual to increase their knowledge of political issues, economic issues, and current issues. Furthermore, education gives someone the opportunity to acquire skills that will allow them to be constructive in society. America is ever changing; therefore, it requires one with the intellectual skills to understand the problems that occur. Identically, society requires a human being that has the capability to solve the problems and the capability to construct ideas in order to prevent problems in society. Uniquely,
John Dewey, the father of education, created a vision of education being the key to prepare people for citizenship. Dewey’s vision was the idea that school, would teach future citizens how to think critically in democratic situations. Essays such as Todd Gitlin’s, The Liberal Arts in an Age of Info-Glut, Leon Botstein’s Let Teenager’s Try Adulthood, and Diane Ravitch’s, Stop the Madness, help to prove high schools today are not doing enough to prepare citizens to achieve Dewey’s vision of people being able to critically think democratically.
The American school system is absolutely broken. A product of terrible teachers and administrators, horrible districts, and our country’s inability to fix the inherent flaws of the system. We sit back as the youth of our proud nation spend their days in the factory we call “school.” Factory because schools are not designed to teach our children. These factories throw knowledge at the kids left and right. There are so many bits and pieces of information being hurled around at once. With the vast expanse of knowledge entering the minds of young people during the day, one would assume the child would rise to become “educated.” But the problem is, schooling by itself creates no intelligent people. Schools are designed to produce good members of
Michael Moore’s “Idiot Nation” perfectly describes the state of public schools today. Parking lots in community colleges so crowded that students are discouraged from even going; a two faced administration with a sociopolitical agenda; a blatant disregard for the tastes and preferences of minorities and underprivileged kids. And at the same time, there are scores of bad teachers who never get replaced because they have tenure – an utterly ludicrous concept. So even the “smarter” kids in the school aren’t guaranteed good teaching, and even for these privileged few school becomes prison like and mundane. Teachers don’t focus on maximizing kids’ intellectual potential, they assign work to keep kids busy and pass out worksheets. There is relatively no critical thinking demand in any class in a public high school, only a strong commitment to regurgitation of facts. And even then,
Education is what drives the future of America. If students in today’s generation are not being educated properly imagine what the future holds. Today it is seen that many students are not acquiring the fundamental abilities of math and english concepts for the most part. Students are not a grade level reading, or writing. They are falling behind. Reason being is because some teachers, are not taking the effort to make sure these students are gaining the knowledge. Teachers (not all) have become lazy they are not doing enough to make sure their students are successful. Also since a lot of teachers are given tenure, they cannot be fired for being unsatisfactory teachers. Instead reforms such as No Child Left Behind and Rise to the Top were
Thank you for responding to my email. I appreciate your candid advice and will do all I can to follow same.
Education is a diverse subject that is crucial working part in our society machine. We can thank our education system for what our world looks like today. Without education all our advances in technology, medicine, and critical thinking wouldn't be possible. Our teachers of the past, present, and future were and are some of the most important people to have walk this earth. They have touched the lives of many, and will continue to shape the minds of tomorrow. Yet, as well as our education system has done, their are still many issues that we must address as a whole. Issues such as Bilingual education and the hiring of unqualified teachers plague our education system.
Society has defined a single method that will potentially enable people to land a high paying job they may enjoy. This method consists of students going to a university straight out of high school. Ken Robinson has essentially claimed that the “misconception of education in high schools have taken a turn towards a mechanical process instead of a human system.” (Robinson) In this case, it provides the opportunity for a more diverse system that incorporates a broad and flexible curriculum. High schools must turn creativity in a standardization instead of an option. This would allow people to awaken their personal creativity skills and apply them to jobs and everyday life once out of school. This will benefit high schools because the dropout rate may decrease since students are developing skills through creative work being done. The Neoliberal Arts claimed that education is changing and it’s not for the better, “College is seldom about thinking and learning anymore.” (Neoliberal) This may be because career focus is based on money over learning, which some colleges strive more towards. The Neoliberal Arts article also mentioned STEM education and whether or not it is following its responsibilities. It seems this particular education is only focusing on the Technology/Engineering aspect and not the Math/Science. This can be related to the 60% dropout rating that Ken Robinson’s TED TALK stated since math and science classroom may not be emphasized as much as it needs to be.
Everyone knows that education is very important, but not everyone understands why? Education is essential to help kids develop the skills necessary to prepare them for the modern world. Furthermore, education endows kids with the ability to be independent, creative, and innovative learners, which can help encourage kids to take on greater tasks. However, most schools lack the support for greater student success because they have outdated textbooks, bad school facilities, and no student autonomy. As American’s, it is our legal right to stand up for what we believe in. All citizens should have an equal say, regardless of not only race, religion, or sex, but profession as well. Being an often underappreciated profession, teachers should have their voices heard, especially when it comes to the modern educational system in which their lives are consumed. John Dewey’s statement acts as a form of encouragement for teachers to think deeper about and challenge the ideals of our education system. While the field is constantly evolving, teachers are often neglected and their first-hand, personal experiences are ignored. Sure, the government has all the power, but legislators should at least consider those who are in the classroom each day.
Memorize, test, forget, and repeat are standard procedures for many students. With this structure, students do not have the opportunity to truly learn and process the information they are taught. Students cannot develop interests in varied subjects, which leads to there only being limited options for them in the future. The education system takes the focus off of the students’ futures and puts it on required courses and test scores. As a result, students are not given the opportunity to grow as people and develop interests in subjects other than math and reading. Schools only focus on a required curriculum, which diminishes students’ curiosity and does not allow them to explore subjects that they are interested in; therefore, schools do not produce well-rounded, educated citizens.
In our country’s education system, one can still see the effects history had on its shaping. People that cannot afford a private education are not getting a strong enough education to help them continue on in life. Henrietta Lacks was a woman who had only a few years of primary level education because she had to quit to help on her farm for money. Because she had very little of an education, she had no knowledge of what was happening to her when she would go to the doctor. The doctors took advantage of this and took her cells without her knowing. Henrietta was not able to obtain a quality education due to the fact that her family was poor and needed her help on the farm. Poverty directly correlates with education in that impoverished people do not get equal opportunities in schooling nor are they raised and influenced the same outside of school.
The report also recommended that nurses ought to be highly educated and well trained. This would require the improvement of the education system that they have to go through (Donelan, Buerhaus, DesRoches & Burke, 2010). In order to ensure high quality healthcare, the education system should be improved to enable nurses to acquire more competencies such as leadership, collaboration, teamwork, evidence based practice, system improvement, health policy and research among others. There should be opportunities for smooth progression from diplomas through degrees, masters to PhD in congruence with the principle of lifelong learning.
Learning, everyone in every Lifetime has learned something, but, do they all learn the same way? If the answer to that is no,then, How do people learn and why is the way that we as humans learn so significant, moreover for children? Well i can think of why, each child learns differently than another additionally, depending on their way of processing information, a traditional method of teaching might not reach them in terms of personal interest including intellectual individuality. This, along with Equally inspiring resources that is scarcely available, it makes learning things seem similar to a chore or a modern but ancient way of punishing someone for doing a bad deed or also as a way to persuade someone to lose themselves for something that all of a sudden doesn’t seem worth the trouble or time to get after strenuous work, to obtain, Primarily, A Certificate of completion.Furthermore, fueling the need to work hard, struggle, and eventually in due time crash and burn. My solution to this problem would be to change the course of the school system and leave the old ways of old school bland instructing and bring in a more hands on creative process to erase inaccurate groupings of incompatible students when it comes to learning effectively, and, efficiently, together, which reinstates my thesis that everyone everywhere are different, and even if they are they should have a chance to learn by being taught in a more effective long lasting way. Which brings me to my thesis, I
