For most of the students, including myself, December is our favorite month of the year because our School Christmas Holiday is waiting for us. During the Christmas Holiday, many students plan a warm winter getaway with their families to avoid from shoveling 2 feet of snow off of their driveway. After all the flights and hotel booked, the last thing we do is to take everything we need, and shove them all into the luggage with full of excitement; however, if you are traveling to a destination where you don’t know or speak the language, not being able to communicate can not only be frustrating, but sometimes it can even be a bit frightening. Nowadays, The world is becoming more interconnected, like the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the sports we play, the movie we watch and the music we listen to, we are all connected in some way. Therefore, learning a foreign language (knowing more than one language) is getting more important in a globalized world.

“In today era, the basic knowledge of a single or more language has become crucial. Language has become the major tool of communication between countries, cultural groups, varies companies and organizations, communities and friends” (Banga & Suri 181)
We use language in our daily life to express our thoughts, emotions, ideas, and opinion by text, voice, and gestures. In 2017, “there are currently 7,097 known languages spoken by people around the world” (Comben para 2).
Language can be seen as a communication barrier for some. Sometimes it may be difficult to talk to a customer, distant relative, or just a person walking down the street asking for directions. Now imagine a world where every single human being spoke the same language; a place where your distant relative from another country suddenly speaks the same language as you and you can begin to appreciate or dislike them even more; where now you are connected to billions of people who you can easily communicate with; where one universal language can now progress humankind.

Communication through language performs a pivotal role in a human life as it sustains it and therefore essential. Language is a key ability required to communicate with others and if someone lacks this expertise they encounter countless obstacles. At the end of 2010, my family and I immigrated to the United States of America. At the time, I had mixed emotions about the move, I was unable to process everything. I did not know how I was going to survive in a new country with a completely different culture. For the first ten years of my life, I had been brought up in an Indian household where I had been instilled with Indian values and spoke Punjabi. Much to my dismay my largest obstacle would be the language barrier, because I wasn't fluent in speaking English. When I started to attend school, everything began to intimidate me. I needed to get accustomed to a completely different schooling system compared to the one I had just come from. I wasn't fluent in English which hindered my ability to communicate with my teachers and my peers. On the first day of school, I had difficulty navigating through my elementary school because I was unable to figure out where I was supposed to go. I tried asking other students for assistance, but no one was willing to help me. When I finally found my class, my teacher gave the class an introduction and assigned the class an assignment which we were given twenty minutes to complete. I looked at the assignment which had the words "about me" printed on top. I quickly glanced through the rest of the assignment and found that I did not understand any of it. At
