Is Procrastination Part of Human Nature Procrastination is my expertise and a way of living. I know this is a bad habit but I can’t seem to manage my time and feelings. I wish that I can run away from my responsibilities but they are always chasing me down. When these responsibilities are about to catch up to me, I run in maximum overdrive so that they can stop following me. Procrastinating has gotten me into a lot of problems especially in school. I always wait to the last minute to do any schoolwork and it usually leads to anxiety. Heck, I even waited to the last minute to write this essay. I know it’s bad but I can’t make myself do anything because I lack any kind of motivation. Procrastination does not only affect me but, I see that many of my classmates also have this problem and they are rushing to get work done before it’s due. I see them do their homework one class period before it’s due. Instead of doing work, they are hanging out and having fun without any care in the world. I think that procrastination is a natural human trait because it affects so many people. Tim Urban, a blogger writes about his experiences and how procrastination has affected him. He was saying how he had to write a ninety page essay and kept holding it off until there was only three days till it was due. He said that he pulled all nighters so that he could finish this essay. He gives us a closer look in the mind of a procrastinator and says , “ Both brains have a Rational Decision-Maker in them, but the procrastinator's brain also has an Instant Gratification Monkey.”( Urban, 2016) The rational decision maker is responsible and it wants to tend to our responsibilities. The Gratification Monkey just like the easy works and doesn’t enjoy life and have fun. The gratification monkey lives a sad life with no meaning or purpose. Whenever there’s some sort of deadline, “Panic Monster is dormant most of the time, but he suddenly wakes up anytime a deadline gets too close or there's danger of public embarrassment, a career disaster or some other scary consequence. And importantly, he's the only thing the Monkey is terrified of.”(Urban 2016) The panic monster is what pushes us to work but other than that, the Gratification
Many of us can recognize that leaving things to the very last minute is not very wise and can cause an abundance of unnecessary stress. Procrastination is self-sabotage whether it’s to pay a credit card bill, fill up gas in your car, or complete your homework. Procrastination ranges from the most miniscule task to the most significant ones so the question is why do people procrastinate? For myself I rationalize this behavior by saying I work best under pressure but through my recent discoveries I found this isn’t true at all, it was just an excuse. The heavy pressure we feel when an important deadline is approaching physically forces us to complete our work but that doesn’t always mean that our work is good. Starting a project weeks before it is due guarantees that we had time to think and process your ideas therefore our work is our work is generally well-prepared. Starting an assignment the night before it’s due forces us to rush through it just to get it done it does not ensure that our best abilities are being put to use and usually ensures that our best abilities are being put to use and usually ensures that it’s satisfactory at its best from a psychological standpoint procrastinators can adapt
The problem is that I procrast when it come with school and work.In the past year I didnt do well in this same class end of having to drop the class in the main reason why is because I would wait last minture to do the work or go online. Attention Getter: A famous author by the name of Wayne Dyer once said, “Procrastination is one of the most common and deadliest of diseases and its toll on success and happiness is incredibly heavy.”(1) In todays society it seems as if procrastination has become a normal and acceptable thing to do. It is often joked about amongst schoolmates and co-workers around the world. Nothing seems to get done until it absolutely needs to get done, then everyone runs around getting things done quickly and often times inaccurately. The trouble with this mentality however is that some things will never get done because something will come up tomorrow or the next day and what you are putting off now gets pushed even further back. Today I will persuade you to stop this habit from continuing. I will be explaining the problems we face when dealing with procrastination as well as how to deal with it and actions you can take to prevent it in the future.
I had always been a procrastinator, leaving everything to the last minute because I knew I could still finish in time. However, I could never put in a 100% effort because I never gave myself the necessary time. I don’t know why I did procrastinate; it would just happen for almost every assignment and I never stopped to question why I shouldn’t do it. Gradually, it became a habit, a norm, for me and the more I indulged in it, the more accustomed I got to it. I didn’t stop to think how my academics, social life, and health would be negatively affected.
The strategy I have used for reading and writing has been the SQ3R survey and skimming the information, questioning what needed for my lesson read it to myself recite it to myself and then review the information. However, my thinking too much on the subject have me second guessing, because the information I write I would like for it to be perfect. my struggle in this class has me running to the computer checking to see if grades posted or what errors need to be addressed but let me tell everyone I reached out to the tutoring service and they are awesome, they encouraged me and gave me confident to keep writing. My biggest time management concern is I take

Procrastination: to be slow or late about doing something that should be done; to delay doing something until a later time because you don’t want to do it because you are lazy, etc. (Merriam-Webster’s Learner’s Dictionary). First off I’d like to give this book a thumbs up on calling out on every excuse we make or everything we say to talk ourselves out of doing something we need to get done right now. I also loved the comics throughout the chapters. At first when I flipped through the book I read all the comics first. I related to them so much, especially the ones with the reading and having to try and cram a lot of reading in and the ones about working better under pressure. In the introduction I took an immediate
I don’t want to call my case special because this is something that everyone experiences - unless you’re a perfect human being who I will tease a little bit for your motive, while secretly despising you for transcending a higher plane of existence that I could never hope to cross. Procrastination is much different than a lack of caring - if I didn't care about doing the work, I wouldn’t’ve completely rewritten this essay the day before it was due. Instead, it's a form of repression - if I pretend I don't have to do something, I’ll just never have to do it. That is until I remember again and fall into a pit of self-loathing and regret for not having planned
When I procrastinate, it depressed me more because I feel so irresponsible that the thirteen mind-sets upset me, guilt and self-blame. With this in mind, I think a way to help me will be using the antiprocrastination sheet. I believe that this will help me to get rid of the bad habit of delaying things. Also, it will be helpful to remove all distraction from your site. Make a habit to reward yourself every time you accomplish something. Hence, today I learn that I am a procrastinated and how to change my habit of putting thing off to the last minute.
Theresa, Have you reached out to any of the VA approved caregivers ? I haven’t done anything because you said to wait until Debbie returned from vacation. Debbie gave me the impression before she left that the plan was acceptable ? I’m 100% good to go with the proposed schedule I laid out...It makes the most sense for Dad right now. I would be more than happy to get these appointments scheduled if neither of you have the time, but I feel like we’re back in the same mode we were in the beginning...sort of procrastinating . I don’t care if you pick one and get them started next week ,they’re all pretty much the same and these are all sanctioned by the VA so they should be okay.... Our procrastination is what cost Dad the monthly payments
From all of my prior experiences, I have become the woman I am today. There is no real way for me to truly describe myself and who I am in full. This essay is to tell how my prior experiences have helped to shape me into who I am now. Normally I am shy and can at times be a bit socially awkward. I have a creative mind from spending my time reading, singing, and crafting with my hands. I was never taught how to deal with money and have had to learn from my experiences. Being a procrastinator is something I acquired from my dad, but my decisions are all my own. The biggest decision I have ever had to make that has changed me is the decision involving my daughter.
Even though this essay is supposed to be about me, I would like to start it off with a quote from someone hopefully a little more well known than I. "I don't look to jump over seven-foot bars. I look around for one-foot bars that I can step over." - Warren Buffett. This quote could probably be taken in more than a few ways but I think the most obvious is that he takes the easy way out. That is what I first took away from the quote but after a few minutes had passed and I was on to other thing, something dawned on me. It may not have been Warren Buffets intention but, the way I chose to now see his quote, was to see it as a description for how people make procrastination work for them.
In college, have you ever waited until the last minute to sit down and pull an all-nighter to finish a paper? Well if you did and you did it multiple times you were basically considered a procrastinator. Procrastination is the action of delaying or postponing something like an assignment. Many college students like to have fun until they realize that they have a paper due in the next twenty-four hours. They hurry back to their computers and count down the hours until the due date expires. According to this article The 4 Main Causes of Procrastination Revealed, there are four main reason why procrastination takes place. Number one reason is the Fear of Failure. Deep down if one fears the consequences of failing they often put it off or just decline to do the action. Second main reason is Extensive Perfectionism. Per the Motivation Grid, “If you are a self-confessed perfectionist, then you might find it difficult to take action unless you know you can do a job with which you will be totally satisfied.” The last two reasons are what are considered the obvious reasons of procrastination. Third and fourth reasons is that one has lack of focus and no energy levels at all. The question is, does working on a paper the last minute (procrastination) drastically affect a college student’s grades?
Upon reading the article on Stress Management, I realized that procrastination can definitely cause stress in my life, unwanted and unnecessary stress. For years I have been in a fight with procrastination. I am ashamed to say that I have identified this issue a long time ago and have done nothing to get rid of it. I am even more ashamed to say that about 90% of time procrastination wins. Whether it be a simple wash the bathroom now or no more movies, not to mention take out the garbage now, I allow procrastination to win. I will always say, I can do it later or I have time. This is a negative factor that affects Time and Stress Management.
