The Importance Of Raising The Minimum Driving Age

Many people think it is a good idea to change the driving age from 16 to 18. They think it would reduce crashes and stress on parents. They also think it would help out parents that has jobs. However, I believe raising the minimum driving age from 16 to 18 is good because some people has a job, some have sports, and some people are responsible.

There are about 2,000,000 sixteen year old drivers in United States, meaning that almost 2,000,000 million people depend on the current driving age for many things. Having a license at age 16 gives that person opportunities they wouldn’t be able to have without the freedom a car gives, such as getting a job that could help their family, driving themselves to school or sports practice if their parents can’t or being able to see their friends when they want. Having your license at 16 also gives teens a taste of independence and responsibility. The driving age has to stay at sixteen because teens and families depend on it for many things and it introduces a sense of responsibility for the teen.

Teenagers in America have lots of responsibilities and places to be like their jobs and school. In July of 2015 over 20.3 million 16-24 year olds were employed. If those teens below age 18 or 21 weren’t allowed to drive, that makes their job even harder than they already are.

Due to safety concerns, many states across the country have increased the age at which teenagers are able to start driving. The state legislature is considering raising the minimum age from 16 to 18, which is a legal adult. This situation has been a huge debate for many years mainly between teens and older adults. However, there’s more reasons why the age shouldn’t change.

Well we all can't wait to drive and get our license at 16 but some of us are, sometimes a little careless. I understand that individuals want the driving age to be raised. Sixteen-year-olds can be very irresponsible and immature. There are also the safety concerns that can happen, for example, car crashes. However, I believe that the age requirement to drive should stay the same. Teens get the freedom they have been wanting. This state should be looked at with careful consideration. The state of Virginia will look at all reasons why it should not be raised before coming to a conclusion. When I heard that the minimum driving age was going to raise, my little brother screamed running into the bathroom to turn on the shower to cold. While the whole time I was watching him and laughing my behind off but inside I was feeling sorry for him. The driving age should not be raised, because students who are younger and learning to drive will stop learning to drive since the age has risen even when they were so closed to their goal. Instead the students will not learn then that would lead to drive without a driving licence and permit.

The driving age should be lowered to 14 or 15 years old because people should know how to drive a vehicle by then.People need the experience it will improve their driving skills before they get older and it will make it easier for tennagers to get to school and to their job because it will make them understand responsibility.

Adolescents can be immature, careless and reckless, especially when they’re trying to show off to their other friends. The general public somewhat views eighteen as an appropriate age at which young people grow into adults. As a result, driving should be one of those privileges and responsibilities of being welcomed into adulthood. On the other hand, permitting young people to drive at the same age as they are allowed to consume legal drugs such as alcohol and nicotine surely is a big step in the wrong direction. By agreeing to let young people to have the responsibility to drive without the attraction of illegal drugs, nonetheless, you are giving them an opportunity to learn, first hand, the real risks, threats and encounters of driving, hopefully being able to benefit young people make better and more responsible decisions whilst driving. Not only is driving not equal to that of drinking or smoking as it requires an ability test, but those who do drive have to abide to strict laws and registrations. Adolescents are taught how to properly drive cars and have to be able to prove that they can perform to a specific level before they are able to get their licences.

The driving age in the state of Virginia is fine and should not be changed. Making the driving age higher doesn’t help anyone. If the driving age is changed teens that have jobs that drive themselves to work will not be able to anymore. Even though it would make a little less traffic it will inconvenience a lot of people. Lots of accidents happen because of people not looking at the road, using their phones, Dozing off, or even just daydreaming, but if teens are taught better while in school, or driving class, they will know not to do something silly like that.
