Exploratory Issue
What is real communication? It is the collaborative process of using messages to create and participate in social reality. It is also the key to achieving many of the positive outcomes each of us desires. On the more personal level, we may hope to fully and freely express ourselves to stay connected with a vast network of family, friends, to build and nurture satisfying intimate relationships, to thrive in our careers and to become the best version of ourselves. Then why do we enter a tethered self-state where we are always aware of and attuned to both the “real world” and life on the screen. Why are we at times better communicators virtually rather than in real life?
In the past, people communicated via hand written letters. Letters would travel far and near to arrive to their destination. As this form of communication spread, it resulted in a new form of communication, the telegraph, in 1792. This form of communication gave people an alternative way to communicate. Then in the 1800s, the telephone and radio were invented. With these new devices people could communicate much faster and effectively. Messages, news, and advertisement ran through the radio and in result reached a larger audience. To the people living in that day and age it could be said that radio, telephone, letters and telegraphs were their social media platforms. With the invention of the computer, it allowed for exploration on ways to communicate using this devise. When the first

Throughout the years people have been given the privilege of interpersonal communication in many forms, such as letters, emails, texts, and social media. Letters were one of the very first mediums people used to communicate, and as the years went by technology improved, and emails were created. Emails served as a faster alternative for people in a business to contact someone else. Following that was the idea of text messaging, not only was it time efficient but also easier. That wasn’t the only thing connecting people all around the world though. Social media wasn’t the most popular to begin with, but as time went by, and it became more personal, people began to take a very big interest in it. Letters, emails, texts, and social media play
Social media has taken over the modern day world. It has helped us to communicate,
Social media is a way to share life with the world. The first form of social media dates all the way back to 1997 where a British website called “Six Degrees” was created. Much like social media pages today, it allowed you to create an account and friend users from all over. From there, all the socials media platforms used today were created. Although some may say social media has a positive outcome on society, it is obvious that social media is slowly making the human race worse.
Writing on the Wall by Tom Standage focuses on different forms of social media and how it has changed to benefit society throughout the past 2,000 years. Standage defines social media as a community that is brought together by shared information and passed along to different social connections. Social media may not have been in the same form as we are used to nowadays, but it has been around for centuries. In some ways, you may not realize that daily activities are forms of spreading information. People like the idea of social media because as humans, we like interacting with other people. Throughout the years, we’ve learned how to transition from oral communication to a written language. The discoveries changed how people view communication for the better.
Social media is the product of innovation and electronic progression: Social media are webpages and applications that enable the creation and distribution of information: Social media is the future. Since the beginning of time, humans have had the instinctual desire to communicate with one another. With impeccable capabilities to bring people together, the world uses social media to interact and stay connected. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. are some examples of the everyday media networks which people use to share thoughts, news, ideas, photos, and videos. Social media is heavily used for recreational uses; staying connected with friends and family at all times is a huge draw to social media. Social media, not limited to social purposes,
The invention of social media has made it possible for friends that meet while traveling, or the family that has people all over, or even the family that all lives in the same neighborhood, to stay in touch and share their daily experiences with each other. Social Media has made it possible for a woman in Greeneville, TN, to talk to and write messages to her
Mireille Guiliano said, “Intelligence, knowledge or experience are important and might get you a job, but strong communication skills are what will get you promoted” (n.d.). Effective communication skills in a business environment are vital to success in the workplace. Communication is extended through verbal and nonverbal qualities, both equally as important to becoming a successful communicator. Verbally, one needs to employ proper speaking, listen actively, and communicate efficiently, and nonverbally display appropriate posture, a proper handshake, and controlled facial expressions.
Communication used to be relatively limited. At one point, a person could only talk to somebody else in person or send them a written letter. Nowadays, somebody can send somebody else a moving picture with words written on top of it asking them a question, and this message might only be viewable within a certain amount of time, and the message might be one part of many other messages with all sorts of other visually communicative features. Technology is what took communication to where it is today. Technology gave us the power to communicate with anybody anywhere at any time with mobile devices. Technology then evolved to change communication itself. Ideas that once could only be communicated with words can now be expressed through all kinds of different media.
Throughout history, people have improved the way communication and human interaction can be made. From writing letters, to talking on the telephone, to texting and sending emails, the way we exchange information is always being improved upon. Social media is now the most popular way of communication. It is a means of exchange in which people form and share info and ideas in virtual communities and networks. It can be accessed by the devices that people deem necessary and hard to live without like cellphones, computers, tablets, televisions, and even game consoles. There is an unlimited amount of things that you can do on social
Communication is essential to everyday life. Everyone is performing some form of communication daily whether it be through face to face interaction, online, video conference, non-verbal cues, or writing. According to the National Communication Association, communication is defined as “…how people use messages to generate meanings within and across various contexts, cultures, channels, and media. The [communication] discipline promotes the effective and ethical practice of human communication.” The definition of communication has evolved over time with the rise of digital platforms, thus, introducing a new way of communication called “digital communication.” Though this evolution may seem like a recent development, research conducted back in the 1940s has greatly influenced the digital era and communication strategies today.
The Massachusetts department of education states, “The Nurse of the Future will identify, evaluate, and use the best current evidence coupled with clinical expertise and consideration of patients’ preferences, experience and values to make practice decisions.” (pg. 47) Everyday new recommendations are publicized and the professional nurse has a responsibility to remain educated on contemporary practice. Evidenced-based practice makes a significant difference in the care of our patients. While working with patients the nurse experiences frequent conflict with nursing care issues, however solutions are not easily obtained. There are reoccurring incidences where nurses question the intervention they are implementing or medications they are administering. When this happens, nurses use personal judgement from their own experience or advice to determine solutions. Experience, culture, and patient preference should always be considered, but nurses need to be proficient in researching the most current EBP and implementing it when necessary. Many times, as a nurse I have questioned interventions and even discussed better options with coworkers. One nursing care issue that has affected my patient’s care is the language barrier with the large number of non-English speaking patients in my community. “Effective communication is at the core of person-centered care. In situations where patients and doctors do not share language or culture even basic communication can become problematic,
Even before networking sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat people still used social media. Radios, newspapers, and magazines were also forms of social media. These early forms of social media also spread gossips, kept people up to date, and connected. People could leave each other messages through the radio talk shows, write articles about current events on newspapers, and spread celebrity fashion and gossips around in magazines. The early forms of social media led to the advancement of the social media that people use today. Technological advances play an important role for social media. For instance, once computers were made, it was the spark for social media. Websites like AOL, Myspace, and Facebook allowed people to
Years later inventors came up with new ideas of communication, which is now known as social media. This
