Why do I deserve an A in college writing? Many hours have been devoted to this question. Each week the class met for almost 3 hours and covered a large amount of material. I have found it to be invaluable. The information has reinforced many Items that I remember from other educational experience but also provided me with new and challenging information. When in high school I took many credits of English which included some writing. The educational experience in this writing class will enhance my capabilities to further my career. The three topics that have remained on my mind are Logical Fallacies, Vocabulary structure, and writing essays. These three topics will assist me in my continued life adventures.

They do not know that the writing in college has a lot of differences. They also do not know that college writing has different rules. These students get confused with these rules. When I graduated high school, I already knew that I wanted to attend college other than going to the work force. I heard stories about college being fun and it is one of the greatest accomplishment a person can achieve. So, I began college right after high school. As I entered college, I learned that I will have to focus more on writing papers than having fun. In high school my teachers did not prepare me for college essays. I feel like I learned a lot more failing on my college writing assignment than passing on the essays in high school. Well now I have approached the end of the semester of college, and I am exhausted from the constant writing assignments. Although the assignments were difficult like I said it was also helpful. Each assignment helped me in different ways. The assignments helped me improved with my grammar, time management, and how to process before I begin writing. In English 1010 I had different types of writing assignments. I had to write a literacy narrative paper, analysis paper, research paper, and lastly an autoethnography paper which I am doing now. An autoethnography is when the author uses self reflects to write about their experiences about writing a paper. English is not the only subject that I had writing assignments in. I also had to write assignment in my business class. My English teacher had informed me that I will have to do an autoethnography. Writing a college-level essay can be tricky, especially if there is lack of inspiration or the ideas aren’t organized well enough to articulate into a draft. However, in the case of higher-level education; students are encouraged to stimulate their learning through writing, in order to acquire an analytical and understanding capacity to be successful in college. Coupled with planning, research, and hard work; writing essays for college becomes an easier task in a short time, resulting in the improvement of critical thoughts. Writing is an evolving skill that may be fine-tuned through years of improvement and learning. As a product of the evolving nature of my writing skills, a primary difference between my writing in high school and my writing in college would most certainly be the quality of the writing itself. Since I can remember I have always loved to write. When I first took college composition I it was so fun and I loved everything I learned in that class. It was so long ago so I don’t really remember everything that I learned but for the most part, I remember being able to pick a topic and write about that one topic throughout the semester. There are three aspects of my writing that I would like to improve which are tone, grammar, and style. I always write in the sarcastic tone. To be successful in high school, there are certain rules one must have to follow and topics you have to apply those rules too. Which in most cases they are ideally limited. Teachers in high school only touch the basics of what will be taught in college. Such as grammar, research, limited sentences, and critical judgment on others work. All those categories are only touched to an extent, that gives us an idea of what college writing will be all about. I believe that in college the way one's writing is developed into is also encouraged by the way the professor grades the paper. Writing is a difficult subject for me. English has never been my favorite subject, however I see why it is important to master. When I decided to take INRW I knew I was up for a challenge. Honestly, I came in with a positive attitude and with good intentions to get the best knowledge possible. Throughout the course I have learned many things that as a teenager I ignored in high school. I’d say I have improved a whole lot, but not to the best of my abilities. Yes, I still have some weaknesses in some areas, but overall I feel more confident about writing.
Over the course of this past semester, my ability to write has improved tremendously. Prior to undertaking this course, my expertise in writing was not as fine-tuned as it should have been. I had never previously been enrolled in a class specifically tailored to writing-- which was quite clear. Upon reading my past works, it becomes apparent that my writing style consisted of fluff, small words, and inconsistently structured sentences. These problems have, for the most part, been remedied with the coursework I have tackled in College Writing. Rather than long, drawn out papers that take an eternity to reach the primary point, my recent work is much nicer in terms of composition and grammar. I credit these improvements to the three primary
Back in my high school years, writing was my worst nightmare. Even in Portuguese, my native language, it was very stressful when I had a writing assignment. As I saw myself as a logical person with zero creativity, the writing was not my favorite subject. My writing experience came from the last six months of learning English in the US when I was, finally, taught to write in a logical and organized way. Learning a structured approach focused on writing as a process, helped me to clarify my idea about how to write. But, does the college-level writing and common-writing mean the same? What differentiates college-level writing from other types of writing? What should we expect from a college-level writing? While there is not a single definition of college-level writing, the different meanings, and controversial interpretations show us its importance.
Throughout school, I have been exposed to various accounts of literature that fueled the fire to carry me to college, and perhaps loathing English courses as a whole. From the beginning of my writing career, we were to pump out two page essays without the mention of yourself, nor be verbs. I feel as if writing with such harsh restrictions takes away from the integrity of writing, and makes writing feel more like an obligation to that teacher than a freedom. I plan to state the reasons why going to the high school that I did ruined writing for me, and how I feel I never truly learned how to write a paper. These previously stated reasons and more come together to provide a compelling backstory in my history with writing.
