A typical day in a businessman’s life involves waking up early, grabbing a coffee, racing to the office, and working long stressful hours. Even once he makes it home that night his work usually comes with him via blackberry. Family time is most likely limited to the weekends. Even then, he might still be busy on his phone or checking his emails. Taking a break from such a life by sitting on the beach or touring the world or even sitting at home can have a major effect on your life. Is it worth it to work those extra two weeks a year and risk having a heart attack? Work can be stressful, and constant stress can negatively affect your health. Taking a break from this can only positively affect you. Once a person is taking a vacation it has to be done correctly. By taking along a blackberry or laptop you are gaining absolutely nothing. A vacation is a break from everyday life. Its goal is to escape the stressful components of working. By taking work along with you, you’re defeating the whole purpose. Researchers in Austria found that in an average-sized company fifty-three employees reported “fewer physical complaints, improved sleep and better mood during vacation as compared to a regular workweek” (Barker, 2009). Aside from the fact that vacations improve your health, it also improves your productivity. People are afraid to take off from work; they think it will lead their employers to question how committed they are to their jobs. In reality, people are more productive and creative when they come back from vacation. People are also less likely to experience burnout if they vacation frequently (Anonymous, 2007). The number of trips taken by Britons overseas has declined by 12.6 million, from 69.4 million to 56.8 million between 2007 and 2011, according to the research by Travelodge. This means that 5.9 million holidays and trips have come out of the market altogether when the number of domestic holidays and trips are factored in. This is shy of the government’s stated ambition for domestic trips to replace the number of missing overseas trips, the report says. However, the analysis shows that ‘staycation’ breaks were up by 5.6% as the recession proved that holidays are an essential rather than a luxury. UK city breaks account for 23% of domestic tourism but seaside towns are in decline by 5%. Total tourism revenue was up 12.6% to £40 billion between 2007-2011 against the general economy up 8%. Employment numbers in tourism have bucked the wider trend, thanks to strong growth in 2011 when 120,000 new jobs were created. The UK’s appeal as a tourist destination endured during the double dip, with overall visitor numbers up by 3.1% to 157.4 million, the report shows. Staycations form the backbone of the tourism economy, with domestic trips and holidays increasing by 5.6% to 126.6 million.
I can’t believe my first college semester is almost over. Key word is “almost” because the weeks following thanksgiving break will be critical for me. Even though it’s almost over, I must finish strong. I wouldn’t want all my hard work to go to waste. All the A’s that I earned so far must remain A’s for me in order for me to be happy with my academic performance. These next 3 weeks are going to be hectic, but also relaxing.
It is apparent that paid time off can offer many benefits to employees and employers aside from just simply reducing occurrences of unscheduled time off, likewise, a paid-time-off (PTO) policy has other benefits such as PTO, makes employees more productive, increases retention rates, makes the company more attractive to new hires, and helps prevent people from feeling guilty about taking time off. All in all, incorporating PTO can appear as a frightening challenge, although the process will differ for every company (Heathfield, 2016).

Leaving the summer break in the school year helps relieves stress from students. Their stress would be lowered because they would have more time to relax at home and without having school on their mind. They would also have experience an abundance of new, fun memories with family and friends and time for their hobbies.
In “Hit the Rest Button in Your Brain,” Daniel J. Levitin successfully argues that taking a vacation will not only allow you to be with family but also help your brain rest. Appealing to ethos and logos, he uses statistics and reasoning to reach out to his intended readers on how taking a vacation can be a “false break” (Levitin 1). Also, Levitin explains certain suggestions and proposals towards to what a human being does and ties in with how it can affect people throughout the day. Levitins context readers would be people who work many hours and never take a vacation or who read this specific newspaper The New York Times.
With time off from war and work people begun to invest their time in leisure activities.

For these employees, they may have the perception that when say “unlimited vacation”, it really means that there is “no vacation”.

Traveling, in general, makes people healthier. Occasional travelers report lower stress levels and lower risks of heart attacks. These benefits even stay awhile after the trip has ended. According to Larry Alton, “traveling has been scientifically proven to lower stress levels.” (NBC News) This is because traveling is like taking a break from one’s hectic life. One gets to think about themselves and relax. People feel less anxious and tend to forget about problems that usually bother them. In a way, they disconnect from their busy lives.
Personally, I felt that as a worker that I spent my leisure time more constructively. I had once worked as a tollbooth worker in a local amusement park. I enjoyed that job and had nothing if little to say bad about it. I noticed that when I had time off, I took more time to spend it with my friends. I read more and did the things that I wanted to get to that I previously didn’t have time for. I am presuming that these events occurred because I didn’t have to worry about going back to work the next day. That my next hours of work wouldn’t be a personal hell, but rather a place where I can consider something that I like doing, I get paid for.
Unfortunately, the same situation most likely applies for many people. Yes, many do spend most of their time at work but assuredly if they were to reevaluate their time spent, they most definitely may find some of their extra time that could be spent on leisure.
