Just as they say life is a journey, the same could be said for English Composition 1.
We begin this journey of life by learning basic skills and tasks such as speaking, understanding, decision making, etc. Let’s begin by acknowledging that life’s journey is a difficult, complex process. It does not come easily; it takes quite a bit of work and thought. However, if you realize that all of life’s journey is a conversation between yourself and an audience, then the task becomes a little bit easier. If you envision your life as a response to an existing prompt, the way you write will be shaped by the person’s journey with whom you are “speaking.” Imagine, for example, that someone asks you, “Why does it rain?” If that someone were your three-year-old cousin, you might respond one way, but if it were your sixty-three-year-old aunt, you would likely respond differently. You will need to approach every bit of life with that same awareness of audience. No matter what long term journey you pursue, you must be able to communicate effectively and clearly if you want to be successful. This journey will enhance your ability to do so by improving your critical thinking and writing skills. You will begin your journey with a unit designed to change the way you think about writing. First, you will learn to think of writing not as a solitary act but as a conversation between yourself and an audience. In this, writing becomes a dynamic, interactive, and creative rather than a
In “Expectations for College Writing,” the author indicates the importance of thinking and communicating to succeed after college. A writer’s style acknowledges a social or academic expression. Russell Baker, a popular journalist, admitted that at one point in his life he had trouble writing. In his article, “ Discovering the Power of My Words” he explains how he found his writing process. In his junior year of high school, his English teacher assigned an essay asking the student what they had done over their summer vacation. Baker was confused and did not know what to write but then had the idea to write about his first experience eating spaghetti with his family. “Suddenly I wanted to write about that, about the warmth and good feeling of it, but I wanted to put it down simply for my own joy, not for Mr. Fleagle. It was a moment I wanted to recapture and hold for myself. I wanted to relive the pleasure of an evening at New Street. To write it as I wanted, however, would violate all the rules of formal composition I’d learned in school, and Mr. Fleagle would surely give it a failing grade. Never mind. I would write something else for Mr. Fleagle after I had written this thing for myself.” (Baker 51) Baker encourages his audience by stating that one should write about experiences that they have had or anything that they have knowledge on. This will make you feel more comfortable. The writing will also be natural and more enjoyable to read. When he uses this method of writing, not only does he get a good grade on his paper, but he saw the enjoyment that it brought his classmates when his paper was read out loud.
When a person composes their work, they allow their ideas to dilate into a story that takes their reader into a journey. The journey is not merely for the reader, but for the author. The author gain a writing experience from their journey that guides when they write other material. All writing experiences are depending on the person. Their writing experience can drive them to regularly add more details to enrich their story. On the other hand, a writer can be compelled to critique their work to enhance it. As a writer, I grasped many lessons from my own experience. One of my most memorable writings was a story in addition to a thought-provoking essay. This memorable writing experience was my research paper for my 12th grade English class.

It is also a major pillar of success in one’s career across all areas of practice. Even though, writing clearly is critical to one’s academic and career success, I have not always loved writing. In fact, for a long time I despised writing. At one point, I had a feeling that my writings skills were bound to remain stagnated throughout my life. However, time has proven that I was wrong. My attitude and outlook towards virtually all genres of writing has changed positively. The various helpful methods I have been exposed to by my English teachers through different grades have helped me
Life is a cycle of learning and the dissemination of what we’ve learned. In each day of our lives we learn something new to add to our list of skills and knowledge. When I first entered university, I thought the writing courses were useless and just a waste of time since we all can write. Later, however, I realized how those courses are beneficial in improving our critical thinking and communication skills not only the style of writing.
With practice and hard work, writing can be a good skill to have. The step that’s people follow, and their writing process is different for every person. Writing something is not just some step by step thing. It is a process where we change our minds, rewrite, and rethink all of our strategies. No matter who the writer is they always do prewriting, writing, and revising. These are the steps I use in every writing assignment that I have ever done.
Writing skill is a very important part of communication. Writing is the process to express emotions and ideas, allowing us to put them on paper. Throughout this class I have learned more than I ever thought I would. I have learned different writing techniques, such as, using vivid detail, MLA format, and how to use sources from books or websites. I was able to accomplish these skills from class exercises and writing the four assigned essays. I believe my writing skills have changed throughout this semester because I can recognize what has impacted my writing skills, along with my strengths and weaknesses.

The Introduction chapter points out that in order to get better at writing, one must practice often. The goal is making you writing flow like a conversation (2).
A writer is someone who communicates ideas through various styles and techniques. Also, a writer speaks on behalf of their beliefs as an individual. Although writers may have similar thoughts, each person has a distinctive writing style, which can attract different audiences. Some may strive in particular areas of writing that others may lack in. As a developing writer, my strengths involve focusing on the topic given and having a strong vocabulary, while my weaknesses include not giving enough detail or being satisfied with my work, therefore I hope to improve my writing style and habits with the help of an encouraging teacher.
With great apprehension I delayed returning to college for many years based solely due to my writing abilities. No long will I allow the writing phobia to hold me capture and stop me from reaching my goal. During this academic journey, I plan to build upon my writing skills by reading more and using critical thinking. Thus far in writing, I’m quickly learning to organize my thoughts so that they make sense and can be easily understood by any reader.

Today, writing is a very important concept we all need to have the hang of. Through the years I have realized how much writing really does affect our lives. In the beginning, I will admit that my writing skills needed some work and actually, they still do. Writing has shaped my life to have better communications skills when they are needed and shows what I am capable of. I have worked retail for the past four years and being a front-end store supervisor I have learned to communicate quite well with my district manager. Learning to communicate on a professional level with the district manager allows me to show my ability on how I can handle work related situations. I have gained a lot of knowledge by being able to take in consideration
My story begins on the night of January 3, 2009. I never knew something so profound and distinct could come out of a situation not every young adult gets presented with. Had it not been for this night, my destiny would have a different ending. The passion to succeed and make my story become a non-fictitious life event has been the sole source of my motivation to fulfilling my dream of becoming a nurse.
