In this investigation I willCompare the language used by three different children who are all different ages, they are all staggered in age at two years a part. Their ages are: Rhys: Age 8, Archie: Age 6, Poppy: Age 4
The development of language in children changes as a child gets older. “ The Language Acquisition Device (LAD) is a hypothetical brain mechanism that Noam Chomsky postulated to explain human acquisition of the syntactic structure of language.” I will be investigating the change in language used by a four year old girl, six year old boy and an eight year old boy. I will be looking to see if the eight old understands how to use inflectional suffixes in comparison to the four and six year old.
I chose to study this project because I am interested in working with children in the future and I feel that the knowledge I gain from researching child language development could be very useful at university. I believe this area of study is very interesting as it applies to all children and is a key part of development that occurs in the early years.
I have previously done some research in class whilst learning about child language, where I have learnt about different theorists such as B.F Skinner, Noam Chomsky and Halliday.
Hypotheses:
1. More virtuous errors will be used by the four year old as opposed to the eight year old.
2. The eight year old will score higher on the WUG test then on the six year old.
