1. What are the health and safety requirements, and safe working practices and procedures required for the hand fitting activities undertaken?
| State how the health and safety control equipment relevant to the work should be used in accordance with the given instructions.
State why and when health & safety control equipment identified by the principles of protection, should be used relating to 1st & 2nd fixing components,
It’s important that health and safety procedures are followed when using different types of equipment. The main focus is to keep a safe and hazardless environment for you and the people around you.
Before I start work, I ensure that the environment is spacious to avoid any accidents. By ensuring that the floor is dry and clear of any obstruction or material that could result to risk of an accident to both the service user and member of staff in line with Health and Safety first Aids Regulations 1987. I carry out checks on the residential areas and on the surroundings, fire checks and parked the wheelchairs and Zimmer frames in their appropriate places to avoid any accidents. I check to see that all doors and windows were locked and secured and areas are hazard
Many industries and operations (manufacturing, agricultural and warehousing) use powered industrial trucks (including forklift trucks or lift trucks) routinely in the workplace. Forklift trucks are used to move, raise or lower objects that are stored in containers or on pallets to other areas of the workplace. Their use helps to improve workplace productivity and reduces the need for excessive manual handling of goods and objects by employees. However, according to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health there are around 100 fatalities and 20,000 serious injuries each year. Here, in the USA, as a result of forklift truck incidents.
* Ensure that the environment is safe, secure with high quality of hygiene practices for staff, children and their families and any member of the public while using the premises.
Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 – for example, to ensure heavy lifting is done properly and safely. A manual or test could be done to assure employers that their employees know what they are doing. (Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations). For example, at Clarke Willmott we use Workright. Workright sends new employees an assessment to complete about manual handling and other health and safety risks.
State why and when health and safety control equipment, identified by the principles of protection, should be used relating to types, purpose and limitations of each type, the work situation, occupational use and the general work environment, in relation to:
Manual handling equipment, such as sliding sheets, hoists, mobility aids, need to be carried out by people who have had a training to do it. Employers are obliged to provide training in manual handling. Traning it is important to be up to date, for new techniques and equipment. Moving patients without proper training is dangerous for both of us. We will also need training for specific equipment, for example, arjo hoist and oxford hoist is to be used in workplace, no one will be able to operate it without training.
The regulations declare that a person should always refrain from working at heights if a different method can be used to help maintain safety. An example of this would be when cleaning first floor windows of a building, a specialist pole can be used. If the building is new, the design of it can be changed to install tilt and turn windows meaning both sides of the windows can be cleaned from the inside which will lower the risk of fatalities due to heights.
A small amount of brazing of the copper lines is done and the risk uses a propane torch for this work and face shields and gloves are used. A 6’ or 8’ ladder may be used and as stated above harnesses and lanyards are used on roofs. LO/TO used when repairing units. The most lifted by the employee is 30 pounds if any heavier lifts are needed, 2 person lifts are employed. The risk does not work in confined spaces.
Any information, instruction, training and supervision needed to make sure that all workers are safe from injury and risks to their health
The acceptance of equipment as it is delivered to the construction site is the responsibility of the installing contractor, however,
(3) Supervise the accident area until fire, if any, is under control or until area is safe for entry by authorized personnel.
