Carla the Carbon atom is a free spirit. She wanders through the atmosphere, moving with the wind. Carla floats from one cloud to the next, without a care on her mind. One day, she was floating in the air, and was joined by two oxygen companions, Oscar and Octavius. Her two companions transformed her into a carbon dioxide molecule. Her new status as a molecule allowed her new privileges, like the ability to enter plants and to take part in plant and animal respiration. Carla was now a part of an exclusive club.
Carla was minding her business, chatting with her new best friends, Oscar and Octavius, and she suddenly found herself diffusing through the stomata of a maple tree (shocker- doors are open, must be day). Carla has entered the leaf

After some drinks of ATP, the 3-Carbon molecules are energized (phosphorylated) and hit with some negative energy (reduced, gain electrons). Carla’s new group, the Carbonators, transform into a new group, the G3P molecule. As a G3P molecule, Carla can be turned into a carbohydrate, like glucose, sucrose, and more sugars. At the end of the party, Carla leaves the VIP room as a sucrose molecule.
Her sweetness, as a sucrose molecule, allows her to travel down the phloem to the basement, the roots. She passes through the sieve tube elements to then enter the phloem tissue. As a sucrose molecule, she diffuses from cell to another through the sieve tube elements, through secondary active transport. The cells shoot hydrogen ions out of the cell, and when they create a concentration gradient, the hydrogen ions come back downhill to reenter the cell. Carla and her new friends tag along, joining the conga line, to enter the cell alongside the hydrogens.
Sometime in the phloem, the sucrose transport is interrupted. A thump, thump noise and then a hole appears. A spigot has entered the phloem tissue and the sucrose pours into the spigot. Carla and her friends have no way to escape the spigot, and when it is filled, it is removed. Carla is face to face with a giant, a homo sapien, a mythical creature told in her bedtime stories. A human being, lover of sucrose, would turn Carla and her friends into a delicacy, maple syrup.
Carla is sentenced to torture, as she and her friends are
Life, in my opinion, was quite boring. Waking up every single day of my teenage life at the same time, eating breakfast at the exact same time, taking practically the same lunch five times a week, taking the bus with the same people I've known all my life and eventually ending up spending eight hours out of my day being around those people. At the end of the day, I still have to go home to meet my family. And yes, it may seem as if I'm a very moody and arrogant teenager, but in my defense, that was the old me. Everything about me changed on that fateful day.
Carla takes a deep breath and places the knife on the table. She sweeps the sharp, ceramic shards off of the floor. Carly, driven towards the luminescent pumpkin, skips over to it and takes a bite out of the side. Carla doesn’t seem to notice Carly is near the pumpkin. Carly rushes to her mother’s side, and apologizes for the mess she made. Carla doesn’t think a thing of it until she notices Carly has a sinister gleam to her eyes. Carla accepts the apology, and decides to ignore Carly’s facial expression. Carly offers help, and Carla accepts.
One day, Greta asks June to meet her in the woods near her school after her high school theater performance. On the same day, June’s mother discovers the additions on the painting and grounds June. June goes to see Greta’s show, but as Greta ascends the stage, June realizes that Greta is drunk. Because she’s grounded, June is unable to meet Greta in the woods. Instead, she calls Toby and asks him to bring Greta home. It’s very cold in the woods, and both Toby and Greta become very sick.
Suddenly, her brother’s eyes opened wide, “What is that huge, ugly, purple thing?” he shouted, pointing at the tree.
Cipher widens his smile, “Your father and I may have embellished the story to save our men their dignities,” he begins to recount with a chortle of exultation: remembering the event in question. “The truth is. The hunting party was spook by a raspy sound and climbed the tree themselves. Where they became entangled in its limbs and were stuck there until we found them and cut them down.”
trees. Hannah's heart was beating so fast she believed that it was going to pop
Then traveling through the xylem vessels, the water reaches the leaf. Through osmosis, the water travels through the cell membrane then the chloroplast
which is a compound of carbon, that plants don't use. This results in the compound staying in
2 Identify that there is movement of molecules into and out of cells For Any cell to work it has to function with its outside environment, this means that the cell needs to take in substances needed for them to work and to expel waste and other substances. This movement happens through the cell membrane, the cell membrane is semi-permeable (letting some things in but not others, selectively) What goes in Gases (oxygen and carbon dioxide), Nutrients
Living in a house for eight years straight, sometimes you tend to forget about some things. Maybe it’s the odor of your three-year-old puppy who sleeps on your couch day-in and day-out, or your crumbled up bed sheets that your mom tells you to fix every morning. It could even be the sweet fragrance of homemade cinnamon rolls that fill your body up to the brim with happiness and joy. But for me, the shouts and yells were never drowned out. I started to think it was normal that roars echoed all about a considerable amount of times. Nothing would change, but like the hollers, I will never forget the day my life shattered into a million pieces. It had been a million degrees that day and the grass was starting to die off.
When most people think of life, they don’t necessarily try nor want to remember the hardships and obstacles it took to get here. Where they are now. Among many things, I’ve seem to count negative marks the most in my life. Although i lived a good, middle class life, it isn’t all it’s made to be.
Over the course of my short life, I have been to every imaginable world. Of course, these simply exist in my mind. My mind, that tends to wander off to more places than anyone has ever been to. Using my mind as an example I have decided that I want to break out and travel the world, as many people on this planet do for one simple reason. They believe that by getting lost it is possible to find yourself. Questioning this theory that many seem to have engraved into their mind, I went on an adventure this summer with my favorite person in the universe, my grandmother. We got lost, believe me when I say this, yet instead of finding myself, I left with even more questions. Prague, a small city on a big planet, seemed to have the greatest impact on the thoughts that wander inside my head.
Have you ever had that feeling: where you are not good enough? Where you can never do anything right? Where you seem to hurt everyone, you love all at once? That thought where you think you are a horrible person? Well I have had these thoughts off and on throughout my life.
Life is like a game of volleyball, unpredictable yet predictable at the same time. The game of volleyball reflects the same ideas of what happens in my life. Thus, I created a setup of a volleyball game inside a shadow box to represent the parts of who I am. I made the volleyball net with white plastic canvas mesh, court lines with ribbon and players with some of my favorite pictures in the past. I chose this type of model because there are multiple sides to it. Only one side of it can be shown at a time but they are all there, this relates to how I present myself to others.
