Gianna LaVecchia Session 3 - The Lost 7th Grader During school hours at HMS, on September 26, 8th grader Gianna LaVecchia showed an act of kindness to a 7th grader. As she was walking in the hallways, she noticed a lost 7th grader, who approached her for help. School started on September 7, which wasn’t too long ago. Almost all upcoming 7th graders were lost and confused on the new school they were coming to. It was taking time for all of the 7th graders to adjust to their surroundings at HMS. By this time, most kids figured out the school, leaving some exceptions. A 7th-grade girl lost and confused in the middle school, not knowing where to go. People were passing her by, and no one seemed to help her. She was nervous to talk to the
On my first day of Seventh grade it was different from victors first day of school. First, I did not try to impress someone. Second, I listened to
“Free will and determinism are like a game of cards. The hand that is dealt is determinism. The way you play your hand is free will.” (Norman Cousins) “The Lost Boyz” by Justin Rollins, is a remarkable, personal recount of the author’s dejected youth as well as a deep, raw and vivid insight into the ways and consequences of a broken youths’ mind (Rollins, 2011). Throughout his book, Rollins depicts the divergent factors responsible for his descend into the criminal lifestyle, ultimately attributing them to two key criminological theories; classicism and positivism (Newburn, 2017). Classicist criminology, or the classical approach to criminal behaviour is centred around the idea of free will and rational thinking, defining the criminal
St. John argues that when individuals fear change, it creates more problems and conflicts. However, if people were to embrace change, then this would enhance the lives of all people involved.
Once again I found myself at the bottom of the food chain entering 5th grade. I had just moved back to Eureka as my mom realized she wanted to be closer to family, and I remember how scared I was. I came in the middle of the school year yet again, so there I sat in the library as I waited for my teacher to come grab me. I remember seeing familiar faces from the prior year pass by me on their way to first hour. I waited patiently, still no teacher had come to claim me for their homeroom. I realized I had been forgotten. What a great way to start off the new year... not. Finally a teacher came and got me and laughed about the fact that I was forgotten, which I failed to find as funny as she did but oh well. Looking around my homeroom I anticipated seeing all the same faces, quickly I noticed that there were A LOT of new faces,
“Oranges” and “Seventh Grade” are both written by Gary Soto. They both have a similar theme and conflict, however, they do share some differences including format and tone. In “Oranges” he shows how the girl and boy are dating while in “Seventh Grade” they are not. However, the theme stays the same in both stories. Throughout the stories, you will see similarities and differences. I will tell you about some of the most important ones.
As any other freshman entering high school it can be a very nerve racking situation. On September 8, 2015 I Chelsea Gonzalez was entering high school in Thurgood Academy Of Learning And Social Change , my mind was going crazy and I didn't know what to expect. I have always asked myself whether high school would be similar to what appeared in movies; people dancing and singing on top of the lunch tables or, was it going to be a 4 horrible school years in which I would never make friends. I clearly remember seeing kids running toward their group of friends, as I walked down the lunchroom. My hands were sweating and it felt like a million butterflies in my stomach. The room was filled with cries of laughter, kids running back and forth asking each
When I walked up to the schoolyard, I felt tears pushing in my eyes. I walked over to the classroom door I was so familiar with, took of my shoes, and walked into the classroom. I was greeted with cheers from the students, but this only made it worse for me.
Montgomery Township is claimed to have some of the best schools in the country with many coming for its stellar education. This is due in part by with the new technology that was introduced, such as touchscreen desktop computers, chromebooks, and smartboards. However, it was not so long ago that this high tech was not present. Some in the Montgomery Upper Middle School(MUMS) say that the schools should go technology free for one week, saying that it will improve students emotionally and socially, while others claim that students will not be able to perform academically to the best of their abilities. This tech free week is a great idea because it can help student’s physically and academically, demonstrating that when technology takes over
I Makayla Elaine Bunbasi, have been academically suspended from Allegany College of Maryland. I have been suspended due to my academic status falling below the required minimum. I understand that it is important to do well in school and I am willing to put all my focus into my schooling to make sure I do whatever it takes to pass my classes. I know there shouldn’t be any reason for a student to fall behind in school but the past two and a half years of my life have been a struggle. When I was seventeen I made the choice to move to West Virginia to take care of my grandmother since my Pap worked out of town Monday-Friday. Over the past two years I have had to care for my grandmother on my own. Taking her to her appointments, surgeries, and the emergency room at times,
One day, I came across such a beautiful beast, poetry. It raised me, raised my soul to live better. Feeding me its wisdom every day, but it wasn’t always like this. In 9th grade, the beast held no significance to me, and we soon departed. In 11th grade, our paths crossed once more, holding the key to the door that remained locked in my heart. With my close friend, Angela, we’d unlock that door, only to find my true humanity. Through the months, my poetry and I would have evolved in many different ways.
Finally, we arrived at the Central York High School. The miraculously prodigious, white house version of our local schools. I watched the tall-teenagers walk into the building, dressed as fine as red wine for the first day. I still was nervous, the slight bug like force crawling around my neck. I sat still in the car, not knowing what to do, and fired questions out of my shotgun of a mouth. I was flabbergasted by the amazing doorways and the tremendous
In the story,”Seventh Grade” Victor embarrassed himself by acting stupid in front of the girl he likes all the time. For example, “He stretched out lazily in an attempt to disguise his snooping.” (paragraph 34) It is clear that, Victor’s action shows that he is hoping that he could see Teresa so he keeps on looking back and forth to see if she is there or not. Victor’s action is also showing that he wishes to meet Teresa so he can talk to her, so he keeps peeking around while pretending to do something else. As evidence,”Frenchie oh wewe gee in September.” (paragraph 47) As you can see, Victor lied to his French teacher that he can speak French so he can impress Teresa, but ended up embarrassing himself in front of her. He also made fun of
One day, a thirteen year old girl named Lexi, was just waking up to go to school. When she woke up she felt weird because her eyes were twitching and her head hurt. But she thought it was she was just tired because she was doing all of her homework till one in the morning, because she had to study for three tests and she had give a speech in history about ancient Egypt. She was getting ready until she realized that she was late and that she had to walk to school. So she ran as fast as she could to school.
High School wasn't as I expected… at all. I was never the star student in school or the “popular” one that everybody knew. But I also wasn't the worst student. And of course high school wasn't any different. The teacher asked us for our name and in order we went hi i'm Maria Sanchez, I'm Alfonso, Alex , Isabel, Cathy , Jose and so on. There was one boy who couldn't speak English fluently he would mix up the words and everybody would laugh. I felt bad he was at the point of crying because of the embarrassment. I would have too.
Lucy is 12 years old and goes to middle school. It was Lucy's first day at middle school but the problem was that Lucy was so shy to talk to someone. Finally she got the guts to talk to someone but they just ignored her. She started to go round and ask if they can help her but nobody talked to her. Everyone just ignored her. Lucy had no idea where she was going or where here next class was. Then a group of girls came up to them. Lucy asked’’ Can you help me find my next class?’’. A girl stepped forward and grabbed LUcy. Her name was Olivia. THen she told something to the other girls but Lucy could not hear what she said. Then the girl stepped forward and grabbed her backpack and rubbed it with mud. THey started to laugh and LUcy started to cry a little. She told herself’’ I am not going to just stay here and cry for something!’’. She got up and scrubbed the dirt away. She found a teacher and asked which room is which. She finally found her class but the last thing she had to do is find a friend to help her for the the rest of the year and find a way to hide away from the bullies..
