Personality is who an individual is, how one does things, manages events and situations, and how one describes other individuals. One 's personality can help guide an individual throughout one 's life, in addition to having power over the situation or task. Many, if not all of these factors of personality, traits, and genetics, make up who an individual is. One 's may believe an individual 's personality, differences, and individualities is the core of who an individual truly is.

Chapter 10 is over personality. Personality is described as a pattern of enduring, distinctive thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that characterize the way an individual adapts to the world. The book goes over psychodynamic perspectives, trait perspectives, personological and life story perspectives, social cognitive perspectives, and biological perspectives.

Our personality varies based our environment or situation and is subjected to change. As many may know, our personality tells us who we are as a person. It is a substantial role in our lives. Personality is the pattern of behavior, thoughts, and feelings.

When I was just 6 months old, my parents left me with my grandparents in India to pursue the "Indian" American dream. I soon realized I would need to "grow up" quicker since my grandparents were old and couldn't expend all of their energy taking care of me. When I was 11, I was fortunate enough to reunite with my parents. Although I was grateful for this, I wasn't able to fully embrace them. My parents quickly found out I wasn't excited with ordinary kid activities, so they started taking me with them to our gas station in the summers. By going to the gas station with my mom in the morning at 5 AM in the struggling town of Crenshaw, MS, I was able to kindle a strong relationship with my mom and learn valuable life lessons in the process. Personality is a combination of a person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors; each personality if different and that makes an individual unique. Although some similarities exist between my mother and I personality wise, I tend to be very laid back whereas my mother is considered uptight. Our personality differences come through in different areas of our lives; they clearly show in the way that we manage our time and in our social lives.

Being the first of my family to be born in the United States, I had a number of things that my parents did not have growing up. I went to nice schools, I had a cell phone, and I had a nice car growing up. One thing my cousins and I did in our time together would be playing video games. Video games were not just a way for us to relax, but to socialize with the person sitting next to me, and prepare me for real- life activities.

I grew up in a small townhouse that was divided into two sections. On the right side of my house, there is a snack shop, and on the left there was my favorite neighbor. My neighbor was like my family to me. One of my neighbor is five years older than me. We looked out for each other as if we were sisters. She taught me to be nice to others and be kind. She also taught me how to be patient. We cooked together and I learned how to cook most of the food from her.

People differ from one another in many ways because everyone is so uniquely sculpted from the circumstances and situations they were given when they were born into this world. People are constantly metamorphosing throughout the stages of life, and I am no different than any other individual in that department.

Later, because I turned a certain age, the time of working and becoming more independent finally arrived. Even if I had all the support of my parents, they could not afford to give me everything that I wanted so I had no choice, I began working. Even if I was part of the minority group I did not experience any troubles to find a job, so luckily no discrimination and prejudice arise because Canada is a pluralism society. Working was another big steep in the development of my self-concept. I worked for the first time when I was 16 years old at IGA. Having that first job made me experience a resocialization situation. I was working 25 hours a week so sadly I had to discard my hold behavior of chilling everyday after school to go to work. It was a hard time at first because balancing school and work was new to me but I slowly became able to manage everything out. This stage of my life was a worthy opportunity to learn how to manage my time. I later saw all the benefit of this struggle phase paying all of. Before starting college, I did not need to have an anticipatory socialization like most of student had to go through. I already knew this situation and was completely ready to affront it without worry. Thus, seeing my parents struggle in this socio-economic situation was what influenced me to most to be strong. When I was eight years old my parents separated, and they got officially divorced when I was twelve. After my parents separated, my mother took on being a single-parent. My father gave up all his rights to my sister and I. Prior to my parents separating, my family was considered upper-middle class. My dad worked as a computer engineer, and my mom was a stay at home mother. After my parents split, my sister and I went from having everything to nothing in a day. My mom had to move back in with her parents until she could find a full-time job and a place for us to live. Because I have seen my mother struggle as a single-mother, I matured a lot faster than most children my age. Even though we struggled with money growing up, my mother always made it a point to go on vacation yearly with my sister and I; I have been to over 30 states because my mom loves to road trip. Additionally, it has always been a family tradition of ours to go to the state fair every year. Because of my family experience growing up, I am very independent. I also learned to appreciate the little things in life. My mom always taught my sister and I that time spent with family is far more valuable than materialistic things. My mother and I are very close to this day, and I will forever be grateful for everything she has done for my sister and me.
