The Mandate for Hunters Every year, especially during May, job fairs are held in coordination with Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), local government units, and local and multinational companies to offer vacant jobs for fresh graduates. Last May, approximately three thousand (3000) job hunters were hired on the spot in an event for International Labor Day organized by DOLE (Santos, 2014). Still, unemployment is significantly evident in our country. The unemployment rate of the country remains at 7%, but is still considerably higher that other Southeast Asian countries (Bauzon & Lazo, 2014). Unemployment is almost a mainstream issue ever since, and until now there is no noteworthy improvement that is done by the current administration about it. Until now, eleven percent (11%) of Filipino workers are categorized as “extremely poor” with only fifty-five peso (Php. 55) daily salary (Bauzon & Lazo, 2014). What is shocking is that it is not only that seven out of a hundred Filipinos have no jobs, but a lot of employed are underemployed or mismatched in their jobs with respect to their skills and educational attainment. Due to the sudden demand in nurses that began around 2002, a lot of nursing graduates now couldn’t find a job or are working in call centers. Just last 2012, there are more than 200,000 jobless registered Philippine nurses and an additional 80,000 expected nursing graduates (McGeown, 2012).
