I fell in love with the medical field at a very young age. Since then I have strived to achieve a career in this direction. When I began to learn more about nursing, I knew there was nothing else I 'd rather purse. A Registered Nurse (RN) is a nurse who graduated from a nursing program and has passed a national licensing exam to obtain a nursing license. An RN 's scope of practice is determined by local legislation governing nurses, and usually regulated by a professional body or council. This particular type of nursing includes many responsibilities that can be performed in various settings. A RN must physically have excellent motor skills, effective mobility skills, and a high physical strength and endurance. Many of the mental skills required include critical thinking, reading, arithmetic, hearing, visual, smell, communication, and interpersonal skills. Personal qualities needed for success as a nurse involve flexibility, the desire to learn, attention to detail, punctual work ethics, compassion, confidence, adaptability, commitment, and appropriate morals. The national estimates for this occupation start with an annual employment of 2,745,910 employees with an employment rise of 0.5% since last year. The mean hourly wage is $34.14 and a mean annual wage is $71,000 with a wage rise of 0.2%. However over 90% of RN’s make over a $48.86 hourly wage. Within the next 10 years there is an expected 16% growth in all aspects of this field. Benefits of this occupation begin with the high demand of nurses not only in the US but all over the world. Most importantly this job provides security and flexible schedules. With the high demand brings many opportunities to move up or change specialties, meaning a worker would not have to be bored with the same routine their entire lives.
