In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the way individuals lived is vastly different from how we live in modern times. During this time period, mass society developed. Mass society was the overpopulation of people coming into European countries looking for work. All types of people flooded into the cities. Upper-class men brought their families. Young men and women came looking for work. The sudden and extraordinary increase in population led to an expansion in new products, markets, jobs, and transportation. In turn, the tremendous progress encouraged the growth of industrial prosperity. Through its emergence in London, changes and advancements made during this time period revolutionized the working environment and set a precedent for the relationship between industry and the working person that would leave a lasting impression on the world. The large in increase in population also had some negative effects on the well-being of the city and its citizens.
Mass society is defined as a society in which the main concern of the people is to improve the standard of living. During the late 1800s, London witnessed a great increase in people migrating into the large cities. All these people came in order to find work.
