Like several novels, The Outsiders had a movie made from the novel. Both the book and the movie had many similarities and differences.
Although the novel and movie had many similarities, there were several differences that can be observed. For example, the movie cut the scene where Ponyboy was jumped. This event was put into great detail in the book. The movie also left out some minor characters, such as Sandy, Sodapop’s old girlfriend. Some of the characters, especially Sodapop, were given a smaller role in the movie than the book. Another discrepancy I observed between the book and the movie was a difference in the location of Greasers and Socs. In the book, the Greasers live on the east side, while the Socs live on the west side. The movie
A few similarities between the movie and book are that the movie still has the complete Greaser gang Pony, Johnny, Soda, Darry, Dally, Two-Bit and Steve. They still have some of the more sad part like when Johnny and Dally die. There is still lots of conflict between the Greasers and the Soc’s. There is still the situation where Johnny
There was also important scenes that weren't in the movie but in the novel somewhere near the ending Sodapop runs out of the house and his brothers ran after him that was one important scene that the movie didn't show, it just skip that and went straight to the end. Then the part where Johnny’s mom came to see him at the hospital it didn’t show that in the movie only shown when the nurse told Johnny that his mom wanted to see him but didn't actually show his mom. The movie did add some scenes that weren't shown in the movie it showed Dally going into the store after Johnny’s death and robbing it and running
When the socs and the greasers are going to have the big rumble in the book Darry asks if anyone wants to fight him but in the movie the person that he fight in both the book and movie says he will fight him. After the big rumble Dally and Ponyboy go to see Johnny who is almost dead and after he dies Ponyboy freaks out in the book and thinks he's not dead but in the movie it is only Dally. In the book Dally goes and robs a grocery store but in the movie he robs the gas station. When Dally leaves in the movie the guy shoots Dally and injures him but in the book he never had a gun. When Dally is shot by the police he is shot at the park in the movie but in the book he is shot in the street under the lamppost. There is so much more differences in the movie but it would be impossible to say them all so that is all of the differences i found from the book and
The book and the film were both simular, and yet different in many ways. An example would be, in the film, Ponyboy was walking to the drive-in and meeting Cherri and Marcia. Although in the book, Ponyboy began his journey by telling the readers about his experience about being jumped by the Socs and being threatened. The director probably had some options to pick from to leave out from the movie, and the director chosed this to leave out. Leaving out the part where Ponyboy was jumped was an effective move because without the experience Ponyboy was lost and helpless because he did not know what to do when he and Johnny got cornered in the park by Bob and other Socs.
Along with the similarities there are many differences in The Outsiders. In the beginning of the movie it started with a fight between some of the socs or greasers. In the book it
The “Outsiders” movie and novel are very different and similar. The book and the movie have some similarities. After really comparing the two there was a lot of differences.
The “outsiders” movie and novel are very fascinating. Both the movie and the novel have many differences.
The Outsiders book is different from the movie by how it starts, parts of storyline, and the reason behind the book. In The Outsiders book started with Ponyboy Curtis walking out of a movie house.(Hinton 1) Later, he gets jumped by socs (Hinton 5). When he gets jumped it is important to the book because it gives Ponyboy an even bigger reason to not like socs on a further personal level. When Ponyboy and Johnny rescue the five children from the burning church it
In the book “The Outsiders” there is more detail and the plot seems to go at a slower pace than the movie. The greasers are from the west side of town while
I’m comparing the novel and the movie of the “Outsiders”. In my opinion the movie was better than the book. By reading the book and watching the movie they both seem similar in some ways. Therefore, after watching the movie they do have several differences.
Additionally, plot relationships differed between the book and movie. For example, the relationship between Soda and Sandy was very different in the movie. In the movie, Sandy is barely mentioned, and nothing is known about Sandy going to Florida and her reason for going. This has both an effect on the plot and understanding the relationship between Soda and Sandy. Coppola does not develop these characters in the movie as well as Hinton does in the book.
There are two different versions to “the outsiders” a book by S.E Hinton there are many differences between the book and the movie in my opinion the book is better because it shows more detail and will always go that extra mile to have every little detail, and the book is more realistic but the movie is really good even though it cuts many parts that the book still has
Also, in the book, Ponyboy explains his relationship with all of the members of the gang and his brothers. In the book, Soda explains his love for Sandy and how he wants to marry her someday. Because of his love for her, when Sandy left, it caused him complete devistation in the end of the book. These reasons explain how the book was different from the
In the book The Outsiders and the movie there are a ton of similarities and differences between the two. While I was reading the book I visualized Johnny as smaller than most sixteen year olds are but I didn’t think he looked that young. In the part where they ran away into the church I imagined it to be bigger and less dirty. I didn’t think that this church has probably been abandoned for a long time. In the scene where Johnny and Ponyboy had to cut and bleach their hair I envisioned their hair to be longer before and I didn’t think that Johnny would look even younger than he did before.
The Outsiders novel and movie included many differences and similarities. One difference, is the scene where Pony is hit by his older brother, Darry. This makes him upset enough to run out the door. In the movie it is different, Darry just shoves him. The result of his older brother’s anger is still the same though, which is Pony running out the door. The lack of Darry hitting Ponyboy in the movie makes it seem less likely that he would react the same way. A similarity between the movie and the novel is the narrative by Ponyboy. The narrative is the same in the beginning and end of both. Ponyboy is determined to tell the story so that others won’t be so judgmental of people they see on the streets. A big difference between the movie and the
