“Sam sat down and started laughing. Patrick started laughing. I started laughing. And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.” (1.10.118). If Charlie didn’t have his friends he probably wouldn’t have been able to realize many things, and wouldn't have been able to change his sad lifestyle, into a happy lifestyle. “I had never been to a party before.” (1.10.9). Charlie’s freshman year changes his life. He takes drugs and drinks alcohol, and finds out so many things that he would never expect to find out. “I am really in love with Sam, and it hurts very much.” (2.2.19). Charlie, if you didn’t already assume or kind of know, is a wallflower. And because he’s a wallflower, he’s a nice kid. Yet, he has his moments of being really sad. Sam, another main character (one Charlie’s best friends). Sam. Sam is a girl who lost her virginity to her dad’s worker at a very young age. She really is a little messed up in the head, because who wouldn’t be if they went through something like that. (Another best friend of Charlie’s) is gay and is secretly dating the quarterback of the football team, Brad. Patrick is very funny. In the beginning of the book, where Patrick is first introduced, Patrick draws the workshop’s teachers, famous beard, and is referred to the name, “Nothing.” And finally, the famous aunt Helen. Aunt Helen is dead, but plays a major part in this book. Aunt Helen was abused and molested when she was younger. When she grew up, she was able to get away from the family members that molested her, but became a drunk and started using a lot of drugs. Aunt Helen a victim of abuse, soon became an abuser. She took advantage of Charlie, in which later on, Charlie forgives her and changes his life. There is symbolical tunnel that Charlie goes through in the book, and he swears that he feels “infinite” when he goes through
‘If people were rain, I was a drizzle and she was a hurricane.’ Miles Halters feelings about his what he thinks is the love of his life Alaska Young in John Greens Looking for Alaska could quite easily be mistaken for words spoken by Charlie about secret love Sam in the popular film adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower directed by the writer of the book Stephen Chbosky. Both Green and Chbosky chose to place their young protagonists in confronting yet relatable situations in which they must confront death and love all while struggling their way through high school at the same time which not only impacts themselves but those close to them as well. Both books enlighten the readers with the important themes of emotional sanity, love and belonging.
In the English 110 class, we performed many tasks that are required to do in the class. The class also required us to read a book which was titled, The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. Reading the book was to help us write an essay about the book. We wrote many essays in the class also each essay was a different type of essay. In total in the class we wrote 4 essays on different subjects and with different methods of writing of the essay. Three of the four essay I selected because it showed the seven different outcomes that are for writing. The seven outcomes are process, revision, critical reading, rhetorical analysis and argumentation. Then the others are researching, quoting, paraphrasing, and documenting sources plus
Movies are constantly created by producers and writers to convey a particular meaning to their audience they are reaching out too. The meaning can be interpreted in several ways. For example, one can understand the meaning that was intended by the creators, or it could be an individual’s own understanding of a storyline in the movie. As a movie can be viewed through different perspectives, a dominant male named Louis Althusser created the theory of Interpellation and the Role of ISAs and RSAs to help further understand movies. Althusser’s theory explains that people in power will remain in power and others will be controlled by those in power (Hartt-Fournier, Lecture 2). Furthermore, the role of ISA, known as the Ideological State
Everything was the same, well except for Finn and Jessica. Finn was Charlie’s best friend since before he could remember, and Jessica was the love of Charlie’s life. “Hey Charlie boy!” Finn shouted. “Hi Charlie.” Jessica murmured timdly. “Hey guys. Man this place stinks, and I’ll just never get used to waking up every morning for something I hate.” Charlie grunted. “I hate it too man, but my Pops would kill me if I didn't get good marks, and I mean kill me.” Finn explained. “Same here Charlie, I don’t think anyone really likes school, but I do well anyways. You know maybe we could all study together sometime.” Jessica said. Charlie jumped on this opportunity to hang with Jessica outside of school. “Yes! I mean um...sure I will see if I can.” Charlie eagerly said. Charlie glanced around and noticed a guy standing against a locker down the hall. “Hey guys, I should probably get to class.” Charlie said skeptically. “What do you mean Charlie? There is still 10 minutes until class starts.” Finn questioned. “ I just got to go man!” Charlie said. As Charlie approached the boy against the locker, he reached into his bag for the money he
The characters seem like they would exist out of the book and be real people in the outside world. One of my favorite characters is Patrick. Although he does tend to seem only to care about himself or his situation he is still a very lovable character. He later on in the book near the end, takes to spending more time with Charlie after the bad breakup with Brad, who is the football player in the closet gay, and he always starts off as euphoric before breaking down and turns to drugs and drinking to numb the pain he feels. Sam is also a very excellent character as she is a very honest one a bit troubled and has a bad past but understands Charlie pretty well and tries to help him several times. All of the characters remind me of different people you’d have with a group of

Over the course of the novel, Chbosky demonstrates that each of Charlie’s
Imagine that you could only see life in a dull grey. The world that is full of life and somehow dead because of an overcast view that only you can see, and everyone else can see every saturation and detailed shade of color. This can be just a slight piece of what depression is actually like, but it’s not the same for everyone. I believe that this disorder can be perceived as different for everyone for the reasons of the different lives people have lived, how every person varies in their perspective, and a matter of which disorders may impact the person with it.
“Every life is narrow .Our only escape is not to run away, but to learn to love the people we are and the world in which we find oversleeves”-Mark Haddon. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky is a story that describes a difficult time for many people specifically high school. Individuals of all age have struggled with fitting in and finding their place in high school , which in this book becomes an issue for characters. In the novel characters manage to find themselves engaging in both negative and positive methods of escape, for instance drug use, reading, writing, and or through suppressing thoughts. All these different methods touch on issues that many teens have explored in their own lives whether directly or indirectly.
The main thing I connected from the book to real life was the sad lives of outcast kids. I thought about the outcast kids at Triton, did they have a story similar to Charlie’s? Lately I’ve been considering the circumstances of their lives. They have relationships and fights and plans for life just like the rest of us. However very few people, if any know about them.

Charlie’s Aunt was killed in a car accident while she on her way to the car to get Charlie his present. He still feels that it was his fault that she was in the car. He worships his Aunt and wishes she were there to help him get through his struggles with starting secondary
According to the Bible, there are 4 main aspects of being human. Humans are a creation of God. God is creative, and has given humans the ability to communicate, reason, and have relationships on not just a physical level but also on a spiritual level. Charlie, the main character of “The Perks Of Being A Wallflower”, like God, is creative.
The things that affects most people are happiness and depression. It’s always either happy or sad, no in between. But Chbosky brings a unique approach to the story. There is Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns that are similar to this book. They both have the twisted, interesting plots.
