The film “Introduction to Psychology No 1. The Perspective” by Dr. Steve Taylor, explains that psychology is an interdisciplinary approach to the understanding of human behavior through, Biological Psychology, Psychoanalysis Approach, and the Behaviorist Approach. With biology and the use of the advanced medical machinery to see the inside of the human body, a revolution of knowledge and the understanding in genetics and the brain, has open a new door for a correlation between the physical component of the body and brain and the human behavior. Furthermore, the use of psychodynamic approach to study the unconscious drive and motivator of people to understand and explain the behavior. And with the behaviorist approach, that uses the human behavior as a clue to the working of the mind.
The film starts with the importance in advances in genetics, the understanding of the subdivisions of the brain, and chemistry and how all this correlates to human behavior, making biology a crucial factor in psychology to study how biological processes influence the mind and behavior. All this scientific data is collected through modern machines that helps to study the genetic components of people and that behavior can be determined by the inheritable genes, even if a person has not known or grown with a parent, that person will behave in a predetermined manner. A revolution in the study of the brain parts and their respective functions, helps to explain the part of the brain that controls how a person behave, and if a part of the brain is damaged, the actions and behaviors can change, where no psychological assistance can help to modify that behavior. In addition to chemicals produced by our own body, and the chemicals absorbed into the body through diverse ways, produce an imbalance in brain functions which can modify a mood, action and behavior for which a person may have no control over but depending on the type of chemicals a psychologist can determine the behavior of the person. In addition to biology, the psychoanalytic approach helps the psychologist to try to decipher the unconscious motivation of individuals, and how the mind is shaped by the early age experiences.
