Religions do not spread just because of one reason. In order for a religion to thrive, many factors must help it spread throughout the world. In Islam specifically there were a multitude of factors for the success. The main goal for the religion is not to spread, but rather to form political ruling over non-Muslim territory. The reason for this goal is to influence the citizens within that civilization to convert to Muslim. Muhammad, one of the Muslim prophets, helped expand Islam by spreading the beliefs. He did not see himself superior to anybody else; therefore it was easier for people to connect with him. He helped wealthier people understand their duty to help the poor, and made it clear that if one were to break any Muslim rules, the consequence was Hell. The main influences for citizens to become Muslim were because the religion embraced and catered to all people and the non-Muslims were required to pay taxes.
In Islam, there are laws made specifically to help people. One set of laws is the Five Pillars of Islam and one of the laws is known as Almsgiving. This act is where a person gives money to someone, who is not as fortunate. This law forces Muslims to give to people less fortunate, already creating a giving environment to those who practice this religion. The Qur’an, Muslim scripture, says to those fortunate enough, “if they are poor, you give them from the wealth God has bestowed upon you” (Qur’an 24:33). The Qur’an states that the wealthy has a duty to help the
There are many reasons why Islam spread so quickly. The main reasons are trade, military conquest, and religion. Trade played the biggest role of why it spread so quickly because it went to Spain, Africa, and Europe. Military conquest because a large amount of land was conquered by Islam military. Another reason for Islam spreading is their religious views and spiritual ideas.
Explain and analyse the significance of the Five Pillars of Islam on the individual and the community making reference to the principal beliefs where relevant.
Islam also spread because people like their government. They had people who were called caliphs who did a great job. They also sang Hymns which the people loved and they signed up.
The Islam started to spread because Muhammad told his followers to go spread the Arabian Peninsula because he wanted people to understand that it was something really important to be taught Their but first let’s talk about Muhammad’s lifetime. How he became that important for the people that followed and believed in him too.But there was some twist while the Islam wanted to spread.
Islam spread quickly because people converted to their religion to avoid the hassle that Islam had in store. Muslims were extremely violent toward Non-muslims, but if they agreed to become Muslim, the violence would be ended (Doc E). So some people pretended to become Muslim for an easier life, which was a great idea. But some really may have switched over to the Muslim religion from their own. Pretending to, or truly becoming Muslim was the only way out of being threatened, and it was key to a pretty much worry free life. Muslims didn’t have to pay taxes and were not ghazued (Doc D).
Islam is considered one of the largest religions worldwide and claims to have 1.2 million followers. Islam got its start shortly after the prophet Muhammad received the teaching from the Angel Gabriel. Muhammad is said to have spent two years on the Mount Hira receiving the words from Gabriel. The message in these words spoke of one god Allah, the importance of charity, sharing and helping the weak and the poor. This was the start of the Islam religion and its followers were called Muslims, who are people that submit to the will of Allah. Muhammad would later transcribe these words into the Quran, a similar document to the Bible and the Torah. Why did Islam spread so quickly? Islam spread quickly because of military conquest, trade and the
Carrying out these obligations provides the framework of a Muslim 's life, and weaves their everyday activities and their beliefs into a single cloth of religious devotion.
Firstly, it is very clear that Islam has a very strong set of core beliefs, like many other religions, and with regards to the two diverse branches, many of these beliefs are seen as very similar. The first core belief shared amongst both branches, are the six major beliefs and these all consist of a belief in one God, the the prophets of the the God, the books of the God, the Day of Judgement, the afterlife and also the Divine Decree. These six sets of beliefs serve as the Islamic faith whereas the five pillars of Islam are seen as a guideline for living that must be followed by Muslims. According to Goldburg (67-68), a summary of the 5 pillars can be seen as “the declaration of faith, the five daily prayers, a donation of one’s wealth, the persistence of fasting during Ramadan, and
The five pillars are things that should be done throughout your lifetime. These pillars should only be done if possible. The Shahada, the first pillar, states your declaration of faith to God. You must believe that there is no god but God. The Salat, the second pillar, states you must follow a set of 5 mandatory prayers a day. These prayers must be done at sunrise, noon, late afternoon, sunset, and before you go to bed. If you aren’t able to pray at these times you are expected to make it up by praying twice later or whenever you can. When you are praying it is ideal for you to pray on a prayer rug, face Mecca, and get as low as you can on your knees. On Fridays you must pray inside of the Mosque and the prayer is segregated. Zakat, the third
The Five Pillars of Islam give Muslims a sense of direction. Similar to the Ten Commandments.
undertook a migration to Medina. The Islam community identifies this as Muhammad’s flight to Medina and is considered the beginning of the Muslim calendar, but I see it more as his escape to Medina. They were planning on assassinating him how could this be considered something that was supposed to happen? What would have happened if there was not a plot in place to assassinate him and he didn’t have to escape to Medina? If that had occurred then I feel that the religion of Islam would have had a hard time surviving. First off the Muslim calendar probably would have never been created since it is tied into when Muhammad fled Mecca. Then the fourth pillar of fasting is never created either because it is tied into the Muslim lunar calendar, which would have never started if Muhammad did not have to leave Mecca. So the whole reasoning behind the fourth pillar of Islam in my opinion is all due to Muhammad being able to escape in the middle of the night because they were going to assassinate him. The Prophet was, however, so conscious of the public deposits that on the eve of the migration to Madinah and when Allah the Almighty informed him about the plot hatched by the leaders of the Quraysh to kill him, he asked his trusted follower and cousin, ‘Ali b. Abi Talib, to sleep in his bed and hand over all the deposits to their rightful owners. Of course every Muslim is going to say it was all Allah’s plan but how could this plan include hurting other people whether they
The Fajr prayer is performed before sunrise, Dhuhr is performed in the midday after the sun has surpassed its highest point, Asr is the evening prayer performed before sunset, Maghrib is the evening prayer performed after sunset and Isha is the night prayer. All of these prayers are recited while facing in the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca and forms an important aspect of the Muslim Ummah.
When you think about Islam what comes to mind? Do you think of hatred and war, terrorism, mistreatment of women or do you think of peace and prosperity, equality, and a religion of love. Whether you connotate Islam as a religion of peace or a religion of hatred, it is very likely that what you believe is strongly influenced by external sources whether that is: news, social media, etc. It is common in today’s world for people to believe in what they hear especially in terms of religion. Rather than looking into and investigating what the religion is all about, we find people take what they hear for granted. I believe the reasoning behind this is that we as a people are lazy. We receive things with very little effort compared to the past. Things come into our hands more easily than in the past and this has progressively lead us to being lazy and giving little effort into the things in which we do. Instead of working for something we want it to come to us without putting in the effort. For example, not in the very far past before there were computers and before Internet came into existence and the search engines such as Google, students who had projects just like we do now had to take very good notes in class, they had to listen very well and they would need to go and find books and read those books in order to get the information they require. There was a lot of effort and hard work required, however today you can go find everything
How can we define Islam? Is it worship and a way of living? Or it is only performing the Islam pillars (performing payers five times per day, fasting on Ramadan, giving Zakat, and going for Hajj for those who can offer) “Being born Muslims in a Muslim country we don’t bother to look beyond the fact of being followers of Islam” (aslam).Islam is one of the main and major monotheistic religions as Christianity and Judaism which have been there since long time. Globally, it considers the second biggest religion and the most growing one among the other religions. As it has been motioned by Kobeisy (2004) “The number of Muslims in the world is approximately 1.2 billion, one-fifth of the world population” p.11. The importance of Islam lies behind
The pillars of Islam are based off the prophets, and they all build the fundamentals to being a Muslim. The five pillars of Islam include Faith (Shahada), Prayer (Salat), Charity (Zakat), Fasting (Sawm), and Pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj), the five pillars are the framework of the entire faith (Ayoub 2017). Muslims believe that the pillars came to be at the time of the prophet, what bestowed the religion to them, and the five pillars helped the religion succeed after the prophet’s death (Ayoub 2017). These pillars symbolized attribution to the prophets in the orthodox faith and to others a person's admission into the Muslim community. The pillars were created for acts of devotion and practices for the Muslim faith (Ayoub 2017). Although the pillars are based on the Muslim faith, some beliefs relating to the pillars show in other religions. Faith, prayer and fasting are a few of the pillars of Islam but they are not exclusive to only Muslims, they are also present within Christian beliefs and practices.
