For our group adventure, we did something that no one would expect. After considering Professor Carly’s recommendation, we decide to go with it. We decide to meet up before class on Wednesday at the nearby Starbucks. But, we met at Starbucks an hour before class, which is 0700 am. It was the only option for all of us since there wasn’t any time slot that is available for all of us. It was really tough waking up for the group adventure, but it was fun. While drinking coffee and eating breakfast, we get to know more about each other and we got close very well. Other than meeting at Starbucks, we get together again at Walter Library, where we discussed for our upcoming group presentation. There, we discussed various of things, and cleared …show more content…
For example, while making for our group presentation, I recommend to the group using Prezi, which is an online based presentation slide. Although it was my responsibility in making the slide look good during the presentation, I decided that we all should have the chance to edit the slide, and make it look good, rather than I doing it by myself, therefore, by doing that way, there won’t be any superiority feeling towards one another. Another concepts is Group Cohesiveness. Having a good bond within the group members is a must, since it will allow us all to work more efficiently, resulting higher quality of result. Building cohesiveness is like bringing us together. The main strategic to build group cohesiveness are encouraging compatible membership, develop shared goals, accomplish task, develop a positive history of cooperation, and promote acceptance of group members (80). During our group adventure, we developed our group cohesiveness very well. Our first meeting was very awkward, we encourage one another, talk about where we came from. During our first meeting at Starbucks, we enjoy each other’s company where we talk about life, school, traveling, and work experiences. We shared the same goal from the beginning where we all aim to get good grades from this class through the small group projects. Our first time working together is when preparing our group adventure presentation. We work very cooperatively, dividing jobs within one another,
Next is bonding,as it is very important in making relationships .The bond is considered to be strong as it will make by mutual understanding and sharing.Employees working in a group have the advantage of managing the organization in a better way.
There are many factors altering group behavior and effectiveness, such as decision- making, cohesion and communication (Crocker, 2016). The later has also shown a positive relationship with group task cohesion (Smith et al., 2013), and methods of enhancing intrateam
This sometimes leads to conflicts and collaboration problems. Tuckman and Belbin’s theories helped me identify potential strengths and weaknesses within the group, overcome conflict between group members and understand and appreciate every members’ contribution in the group. Tuckman and Belbin advocated in their theories that several problems or obstacles can ruin the successful completion of a task. However, in the group task, we encountered several problems in the aspect of making contacts within group members, differences in ideas, and opinions of group members on the case study, group members not working collaboratively with other group members as well as the delivery tasks given to each members timely. However, as a group, we were able to overcome these obstacles by using diplomacy in certain areas of the group discussion, identifying each other’s potential strengths and weaknesses so that the group task can be completed successfully. In areas where a group member fails in a given task, other group members were there to provide knowledge and skills to cover up its
Group Cohesiveness: Group Cohesiveness, the extent of how a group is especially attractive to its members, plays a crucial role in an organization as well. As for P&C Canada, a new objective in 2013 is to improve productivity and the customer experience. In this regard, a number of initiatives are underway such as eStatements, mobile banking enhancements and online booking of appointments. To attain the goal, P&C Canada team members need to fully understand and accepts the new initiatives. So with high level of cohesiveness, as team members become integrated into the team’s objective and values, which will help P&C Canada to be
Building cohesive teams through mutual trust is one of the most important principles; without trust, you have no team. Mutual trust is shared confidence among commanders, subordinates, and partners. Effective leaders build cohesive teams through their leadership. Leaders gain or lose trust through their daily actions. As the senior enlisted advisor, I will lead by example, by living the Army values in word, in deed, and through my daily interactions with the Soldiers within my
Working together will make the members understand each other ,understand the main goal, make the relationships strong and will effective communication. All these will help to achieve team’s goal.
Our group was brought together for a purpose of making a presentation. We were strangers to each other but expected commitment in terms of attendance, communication, meetings and quality of work. It can be argued that individuals can be demotivated by group project if they feel their success depends on others who do not share this views and which might lead to discrimination and oppression (CMU, 2015). However this might be resolved by a professional organisation of working process, high motivation and personal responsibility of each group member indicating a successful group development. This project was a valuable experience for developing our teamwork skills and in this essay, I will discuss our group process and theories which can apply
Group member cohesiveness was absent from the group meeting for several reasons, but the primary reasons were due to the fact that the group members did not have a common description of value or structure to the discussion. Each member viewed their own area of involvement within the organization as being more valuable than any other area, and it was this exclusion of other valuable traits that lead the group to begin to clash in such a
Group cohesiveness is often strived for and encouraged, however, after this chapter it is clear just how damaging cohesiveness can be to a group. While it can be much more pleasant to work with people similar to yourself, highly cohesive groups often miss the benefits of disagreement and diverse opinions. Often cohesiveness is so strongly supported and encouraged that there may be punishments from varying away from group norms. If members fear punishment or judgement from speaking against the group, biased sampling is more likely to occur. This can result in making poor decisions and not actively using the skills each member holds. Group polarization is also much more likely to affect a highly cohesive group in comparison to a relatively diverse group. Group polarization can be avoided or limited by members who hold opposing views to the majority, which cannot be supported by a highly cohesive group.
The model of a group communication that attains its objective with easy and success requires a delicate process. An ideal group communication ranges from three to few members gathered and discussing strategies to accomplish a specific goal. Groups’ formations are the result of an old truism that more brains are better than one. Consequently, groups continue to define people’s daily collective efforts to solve problems an immense way. “When groups work effectively, members find the experience motivating and rewarding. Group members also learn a
The best way to prevent a team from falling apart is to first elect a team leader who is responsible for pulling the various elements together into a collective unit. The team leader will designate who will be the creative contributor, who will assist in research and who will be the one to actively put it all together in a presentation. The team leader must be skilled, or trained, in team communication, conflict resolution, listening, and mediation and be able to minimize any outside influences that will impact negatively on the team goals. Each team member should have designated responsibilities toward the overall goal and be aware of their importance and contribution to the bottom line. A team leader can ensure that no one person is left out or ignored and that everyone 's opinions are of interest. (Wikipedia, 2007)
In order to function properly as a group, the first thing that needs to be addressed is a strong sense of trust between all members. Often times when creating a team, the creation of the team is the first time many members meet each other. This brief introduction is not a sufficient basis for the members to begin working on tasks with one another. In order to instill trust in eachother, it's crucial the team members spend time together outside the realm of working on the project
Mull (2016) has a video that creates a theory that there are four main concepts to make the team stronger. These concepts include, not tolerating disrespect, overworking employees, having people with bad or toxic personalities, and not having enough interaction between staff members. Getting to know one another is important and it builds stronger relationships.
Cohesion occurs when team bonds with each, They have an objective. Communication is well understood. Everyone knows precisely their jobs and limitations. Coordination is perfect. Even when there is disagreement, it is a constructive one. They listen to one another and feedback is given when necessary.
When doing so the other group members were active listener, by using their whole body verbally and nonverbal. Like facing the speaker and giving eye contact and try to avoided interruption. The group also acknowledges the thoughts of the speaker by giving constructive feed back. Due to the effectiveness of the group communication, we were able to build trust, respect and understand the issues and make decision for effective change. We illustrate this by coming together as a group one again to accomplish the goal we initially wanted to accomplish. Since the first organization that we had chosen was incorrect, so we had to make the necessary changes to accomplish our goals. The other effective feature is the purpose of the group. Kozier et al (2010) stated that the effective group purpose is when “goal, task, and outcomes are clarified. Understanding and modified so that members of the group can commit themselves to purposes through cooperation” (p.401). For instance, each individual was assign a task and knew what was to be accomplished. As group we all decided to meet at suitable day and time which was beneficial to all team members, because we could commit to the group and focus on what needed to be achieved.
