Every time one turns on the television to the news channel, they are reminded of some of the harsh realities that are faced in the world on a daily basis. The questions of what can be done arise. How can a possible solution be reached to decrease crime rates? Well, in order to eliminate as much crime as possible, it should be divided into categories so that the focus is placed on one type of crime at a time. For instance, crimes that can be prevented by the victims through self-defense can be examined. What is self-defense and how can it be used to decrease crime rates? Self-defense is the defense of one’s person through the use of force, in response to a violent crime. Self-defense should be a skill that all people should be able to …show more content…
The focus of learning in core classes will decrease and the intended purpose for school will be distorted. Teacher will not be able to effectively utilize their time teaching, and will instead have to break up fights and prevent the remaining student from becoming involved and prevent them from losing focus from the lessons learned in class. Although the opposition makes valid points, it should be noted that self-defense programs will be taught in a controlled environment. Ryan Hall, a martial arts instructor, states that self -defense is taught through, “controlled violence and skill[ed] martial arts” (Grant 1). There will be professional instructors teaching the techniques with other adult supervision. A safety briefing will be included in the lesson to prevent the students from practicing self-defense improperly or irresponsibly. Through self-defense “students demonstrate and develop respect towards instructors and classmates as well as improve in collaboration with regular schoolwork” (Sethna 1). Studies have shown that self-defense is an outstanding method for teaching discipline and improving focus. It relaxes the minds of the students and not only helps them to focus on their personal mind and body connection, but it also helps them to focus on what is being taught in class. When practiced for a longer duration of time, it can help students with becoming self-motivated to complete tasks, among these tasks is homework. A warning will be issued to students to
Switching classes is positive because teachers have the opportunity to focus on one subject, materials needed are less costly and each teacher has more time to plan lessons. Children will be ready, early on, to switch classes in middle school and high school. These kids will know the procedure to switch classes, rather than entering middle school and not knowing the way that they should switch classes. Switching classes also give kids responsibilities to get to a certain place, at a certain time and they will truly need to learn this responsibility for the rest of their
Situational and social approaches to crime prevention are both proactive where they anticipate and prevent crime but are different in the way on how crime is prevented, each having their own strength and weaknesses. In this essay, I will briefly talk about what is crime prevention and how situational and social approaches are derived, followed by providing a critical comparison of situational and social approaches by first explaining what is situational and social approaches to crime prevention, the differences between the two approaches, their strength and weaknesses and lastly, to show understanding that besides situational and social approach, there are other approaches to crime prevention.
To begin with, criminal justice is a system that is designed to maintain social control, which means it is a necessary aspect of every society since “Laws are the conditions under which independent and isolated men united to form a society” (Beccaria, 1764: 16). In order words, crime control deals with the methods that are taken by a society to reduce its crime. As a matter of fact, there are various crime control strategies from community policing to risk assessments. In addition to the different tactics for controlling crime, there are several theories that not only attempt to explain the causes of crime, but also outline different ways to handle offenders; for example, deterrence, rehabilitation, and even retribution.
The article “Shootings Test Limits of New Self-Defense Law” by Ralph Blumenthal tells the story of Joe Horn, a man in Texas, who shot two men in what he claimed was self-defense under the recently instated “castle doctrine.”
This paper will attempt to prove the relationship between homicide and the varying theories of Criminology which attempt to explain it. It will provide an introduction that will detail the legal definition of homicide, statistics related to its occurrence, evident behavioral patterns behind homicide in the United States, as well as a description of theories that may best describe the reasons for the occurrence of homicide. It will provide public policy prescriptions to attempt to lower the incidence of homicide in the United States before concluding.
The learners could have an additional learning which could affect the work they produce or their understanding of the work that is being taught, this could then frustrate the learner with could result in the learner feeling they no longer want to continue with the course.
Fewer electives will be able to take place such as music, and internship programs which future ready students for the future and opens their eyes to possible future careers. Along with all these changes, class sizes will increase. By a larger class size, teachers will not be able to focus on students as much individually causing students to gain a lack of care towards the class, and “cooperative learning and other more complex activities” will not be able to be done due to the fact with a large class size it is “just too difficult to manage” (Kelly). With the activities being decreased students may not be as attentive to their academics, drop out, or not even put thought into college. Many older and smaller schools have been forced to close down and join into a different newer and bigger school. This transition has put teachers out of jobs, and affect students by moving “to an unfamiliar setting [which] can be both mentally and emotionally draining” (Kelly). Teachers whose jobs are taken, or have decided to move to a different profession because of the lack of security for their job are majorly being affected, and also causing more job competition for others while applying for other jobs. The teaching profession is not one to rush into, with the uncertainty of where you may end up and the effect it may have on students.
negative effects on the economy and there are also hardships the students will face in the future.
In general, self-protection measures of different types can be effective, in the sense of reducing the risk of property loss in robberies and confrontational burglaries, compared to doing nothing or cooperating with the offender. Yet the most effective form of self-protection used is a gun. But owning a gun requires that the person be responsible and know the ramifications that encompass such a preference. Guns can be a valuable tool for self-defense and provides a chance for someone to square off with an intruder that has deliberately invaded their space.
‘Stand Your Ground’ laws have been at the center of escalating deliberation, mainly after the law was applied in a number of exceedingly-broadcasted events (Auerbach, 2015, p.1). Stand Your Ground law is a term for a “type of self-protection in which an individual is legally allowed to defend his or herself against a threat or perceived threat against their life; law requires that individual be in a place he or she is lawfully allowed to be (Long, N.D.).” The debate concentrated on whether Stand Your Ground laws justifiably serve to protect the public. The laws are relevant to American society’s perception on self-defense.
From watching, listening, and being brainwashed by the overpaid liberal media continually, it is obvious that America is hurting from having these people telling us how we should think. The media is trying to push gun control on anyone that will tune in or read it. The media will all say the same thing, and the problem is gun violence. What if one removes the word gun from gun violence, that still leaves violence. Before one can decide which side to support, the information should be completely researched for important, specific information about how America will be affected, and what the cost are for the people protecting their rights.
In this essay I will talk about gun violence and how it is a major problem in America; many see this problem but there’s still not a solution to fix it. Gun violence is getting out of hand and there needs to be a solution, our states need to get tough on gun crimes. People are using guns against each other and that’s because getting a hold of hand guns are too easy. I will explain that gun violence has increased a significant rate in the past few years. Will harder gun laws help stop all the violence? Will getting rid of the guns be a better solution? There are some who say we need guns in our lives for protection and sport, but that’s where it all starts, how we can protect others when there are firearms out there for anyone to
Putting rounds down range every time you pull the trigger on your firearm is very important, whether for target shooting, hunting, or personal defense. Equally important to putting rounds down range is the proper maintenance of your firearm. There are many types of firearms in today’s world with some that are more complicated than others in their operation and maintenance. One of the easier firearms to maintain is the Armalite Rifle, Model 15, otherwise known as the AR-15. The basic disassembly, or field striping, of the AR-15, is universal regardless of who the manufacture is or how the gas system is set up. You will only need a clear work surface, a beach towel or similar item, and a number 2 punch to complete the disassembly process.
According to the Australian Government of Criminology (2017), Crime prevention is ‘an effective approach to reducing crime. It is internationally recognised as an important component of a national approach to building viable communities.’ This essay will examine the case of the kings Cross shooting that occurred in 2012, involving the Indigenous community, Sydney police and Society. it will cover the importance of Crime prevention and the strategies in which are ideal to maintain the safety and security of the community and the offender partaking in the crime. This essay will focus broadly on the perspective of Social Crime Prevention, and the importance it obtains to prevent crime from occurring.
The focus of this paper will be based upon different crime prevention strategies implemented by members of the communities, local and government authorities.
