it's a constant race to discover the next big medical break or scientific discovery where often times an animal was used, without the use of animal testing we wouldn’t of been able to discover the things we have because there’s no alternative to animal testing because nothing is closer in DNA and of the living life form. They’re are a lot of different species of animals that are used for testing but the main ones are, mice, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, other rodents, farm animals and non-human primates. “In 2016, 820,812 animals were used for testing. A 7% rise from 2015. 84% were rats, mice and other rodents 2% fish, amphibians, reptiles and other birds. 1% small mammals, 0.3% dogs and cats, 0.15% monkeys such as marmosets and macaques.” ("Animal Research and Torture are Not the Same Thing." University Wire, 24 May, 2017, SIRS Issues Researcher, https://sks.sirs.com. ) All 50 states allow animal testing but each state has different rules and regulations such as what kind of tests can be done. 3 states in the U.S. have banned cosmetic animal testing. California in 2002, New Jersey in 2007, and New York in 2014. Guinea pigs are used in North Carolina, Minnesota, Washington,and 5 others. Hamsters are used in New Jersey, New York, Nebraska, and 4 others. Dogs are used in Nevada, Oklahoma, Kentucky, and 4 others. Pigs are used in Tennessee, South Dakota, Hawaii, and 3 others.
