A strong candidate for the 2020 election is Bernie Sanders. He is well known, and he gained a lot of support throughout the 2016 election. His supporters were so loyal that they refused to be swayed to Hillary Clinton’s side when he lost the Democratic primaries. As his advisor I am uncertain, whether, Bernie Sanders should align himself with the Democratic party once again. There are benefits as well as disadvantages for him to associate himself with the party. Bernie Sanders is a liberal, but his stance on issues such as a gun control isn’t as extreme as the Democratic party. On tax reform he should take a stance which supports a progressive tax system towards major corporations. His stance on tax reforms would make him really popular with his party because the Democratic party represents the middle and lower classes, which tend to be employed by these major corporations. Burnie Sanders would take a strong stance on this because it is not fair that corporate CEO’s enjoy an effective tax rate, unlike their secretaries. Burnie Sanders’ stance on education would gain him the support of younger voters. He would be in support of an education system that provides a college education for free. He would take this stance to be able to provide our workforce with the most well-educated people. On the issue of gun control, Burnie would lay on the middle ground- he would take a stance that background checks for guns should be required in every state. However, he would let the states determine gun control because the stances differ in rural and urban areas. His neutral stance on this issue could help him win over people who are in the middle ground of issue. The 2016 campaign had a lot of attention because as a candidate Donald Trump used social media as an outlet to campaign. Burnie Sanders could use the same strategy and it would help him reach a generation of younger voters by campaigning through social media sites. Canvassing is another major strategy that would be essential to Burnie Sander’s campaign. Reaching to registered voters by having volunteers knock door to door is important because it prompts supporters to out and vote. Calling supporters on the phone also serves as a reminder to register to vote or to encourage them to vote in the favor of the Democratic
