There are many professions that use ESP (e.g. law, aviation, medical, tourism, science and technology). If you do not know the specific English vocabulary or grammar you will not achieve international business relations. There are some who argues that business English and General English is not so different, but unfortunately that is not true. The objective is efficient and affective communication by using industry specific words and phrases. You can surely ascertain that if a company’s employees cannot communicate effectively, the company can lose out on big business deals, commercial trading and even lose clients and bring company profits down. Yet, before a student or employee can start taking business English, he or she must have a good general English level of intermediate or higher comprehension. A lot of business has individuals whose first language may not be English so making information, instructions, requests etc. as clear and as brief as possible is a good way to communicate. This doesn’t just apply to people whose first language isn’t English. It should apply to everyone. Just some more than others. Another example, visually and hearing impaired individuals will need communicating to more clearly as they have difficulty communicating in the more popular ways.

When entering a new market, at least one of the company representatives must know the language of the country. Even though the most common language used in the international business world is English, many countries have a very poor command of the English language therefore it is highly beneficial to have an employee that speaks the language. It is in benefit of the business to get the best deals, make negotiations and agreements however without a common language this can sometimes lead to misunderstanding and hiring a translator can be very expensive.

Classes in ESL Services are designed for their students’ needs and the faculty helps them to achieve their English goals. The English Language Program (ELP) has not been fully developed. The class I observed is just beginning to incorporate the needs of non-English speaking students due to the need of ESL students. A teacher assists 4 students.

For the past seven years I have been employed as Front Desk Clerk for a hotel. There are many forms of communication in a work place, though, I have chosen to discuss only two in which I commonly use for my differing languages. One is the professional language I use when speaking with guests, whether on the phone or in person. The other is an informal method of writing I use to communicate with my co-workers. I feel this methods are at opposite ends of the spectrum, but both have been proven effective for their own purposes.

English can be used amongst friends or with close family because in some cases they will not expect it from you all the time throughout the weeks but, employees should never use Non-Standard English in a workplace or a formal situation. Using Standard English will earn a person a great deal of respect in a business place. Many will see an individual as a very professional worker and will lead to them getting promoted or offered higher opportunities.
The world’s increasing globalization requires more interaction among people from a wide variety of cultures, values and backgrounds. People no longer live and work in a one-dimensional marketplace- they are living in a highly complex and competitive environment that has growing demands of innovation in order to perform successfully amongst other industries. Business and organizations need to respond to this new diverse landscape, and the best corporations increasingly align with it. A strong diversity initiative and inclusion in an organization is crucial in remaining competitive in the current business world. Diversity is in the workplace is claimed to foster and spark creativity and innovation in employees. On the other hand, it is perceived to increase conflict and communication in an organization. Thus, in theory, diversity is allegedly advantageous to worker productivity, though counterproductive in work-group processes and dynamics. However, there is a lack of validity and reliability in the empirical research conducted to support this assumption.
