This can go wrong in many ways, especially after time when people become too comfortable with following their rule and being completely dependant upon the government to give them what they want and need. A communist government is “(A) a theory advocating elimination of private property (B) a system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all as needed” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). Although this may sound appealing, almost every example of an overbearing government in which every aspect is ran by the government is viewed as what could be considered a dystopian society. In many cases, such as Cuba, and North Korea, not only does the government control what the people own, but what they say and do as well. In societies that everyone receives equal pay and amounts of necessities, regardless of how hard you work, and in a society that controls what you believe in, watch, or see, citizens naturally become slaves to their environment. They lose their work ethic to try to do well for themselves and prosper. This ultimately creates a society ran by an oppressive government in which citizens lose their individuality, and a society of conformity is established. According to John David Frodsham, in “The Dangers of Communism”, “Laos and Cambodia were handed over to communism with the result that millions have died already in those countries and many more will die and suffer in years to come” (page 212). The success of communism had an immense impact on the world, especially in Western countries. The United States considered communism to be a real threat to democracy. Historically, critics point out that most communistic societies have faced periods of famine, and nearly all severely repress their citizens. Censorship is rampant, and any political opposition is strictly stopped. Anti-communists also argue that communism essentially causes a worse form of the class struggle in capitalist societies. This is because communist societies involve a ruling class which have all of the power, which is inevitably used to treat ordinary citizens poorly. These ruling classes have more privilege and power than the upper classes of the capitalist societies they strove to abolish.

Communism has always been a word that was never discussed in a positive light. In my high school, which was medium size, mainly democratic, and mainly white, communism was always put down. When I think of a communist society I envision North Korea. A society that most people do not know much about other than the fact that people have zero rights, everything is monitored, only propaganda is released, and it is overall a horrible way of life. The first time my eyes were open up to the idea that communism may not be all that bad was reading Marx’s “Communist Manifesto” and “Estranged Labor.” Marx successfully challenged the critiques put forward on such a controversial topic by defending this idea with relevant points.

Communism doesn't understand the human psychology. Under communism, people are forced to contribute to society, yet it doesn't factor in the reason people work. The reason people work is to get money and then use said money to buy whatever it is they want or need. So, people work to get what they want.      Throughout history, there have been many systems developed in order to have a better society. Two of the most analyzed, and debated systems that have tired to change an economy for the best are communism, and capitalism. Communism, and capitalism have been compared on many levels, such as why they will or will not work, and which one works better. Throughout this essay I will concentrate on the differences, and similarities of how each operates, along with the benefits, and problems that each of them produces.

The big argument was between communism and democracy. The USA supported Democracy and its freedoms. Democracy is basically freedom, you may do as you please and make your own decisions. You can be a bartender or a CEO your fate lies in your hands and not the governments. Also the biggest perk to democracy is the right to vote. You can vote on you countries leader vs. a king or a prime minister. The people of democracy have a say in the government.

In the Constitution under which we live as Capitalist says that each citizen has the right to personal property, Communism goes against everything that the American society is based on, which in my opinion is wrong and unjust. "…Differences of age and sex have no longer any distinctive social validity for the working class. All are instruments of labor, more or less expensive to use, according to their age and sex" (Marx 31). From this quote he takes away the freedom of expression that we live under in the United States. Marx makes everyone out to be the same with no one having special abilities or personalities. In my opinion Marx and Communism are wrong by saying that everyone is the same and no one is any different than the next. Being a Christian I believe that everyone is different and special, the lack of diversity in the population makes it difficult for progress to advance and to stay ahead of the competition. In Adam's idea of society each person can do whatever they want to advance themselves and each person can pursue happiness in whatever fashion they believe to be the best. Technology creates new and better ways to do things which allow society to grow and become more advanced. In the Communist Manifesto Marx says, that when the bourgeoisie upgrade their technology they in turn create less jobs.

Many people have made fun of the idea of Communism saying that “it’s hearing one thing and seeing another” or “[Russians] have no house, nothing to wear, little to eat, and they think they are in paradise.” Communism mainly benefitted the poor peasants while everyone else had to share their hard earned portions. Even though Communism was suppose to be a classless society, in Russia, there were three classes of peasants, the bedniaks, seredniaks, and koolacks. One party official expressed his hatred for the rich peasants (koolacks) and voices his opinion about how he and others will wipe them off the face of the earth because they threaten the idea of communism. In China, during The Great Leap Forward, the workers were required to produce more food than there was in abundance, therefore resulting in famishment.

Communism in theory is a great government system to create equality for everyone. Yet, as history shows, communism does not always play out so well. By examining Stalin’s rule of the Soviet Union many flaws of communism are apparent. Communism creates a system of very robotic citizens free of individually and passion for the work they do. In addition it requires an extremely powerful government that controls nearly every aspect of the citizen’s life. Former communist states have many weaknesses associated with their form of government. Dehumanizing mankind and taking away ones freedom ultimately leads to revolt and the fall of the communist state.

Accordingly, the governing power lies in a single party encompassing all citizens who have common ownership in land, and equal opportunity to benefits that eliminates the state as a whole. To abrogate these struggles, Marx proposes a set of demands including but not limited to: a progressive income tax, elimination private property, and free public education, which he believes would generate a classless society (Marx, sec. 2). In simplest terms, Marx’s theory was a utopian society in which the state provides for the needs of all of its subjects equally. Marx’s theory is superior to absolutism in its desire is to provide for its subjects, however, is an unattainable reality that exists outside the bounds of human nature.
