A DAY HAPPENS like any other day. Then some guy asks you for all of your card information. You refuse. He then pulls a Vector (a sub-machine gun, still fully automatic) and points it right at you. Luckily, the police pull up and take him away for illegal assault. Automatic guns and rifles are banned for civilian use, mostly because of how dangerous they are. This is the gun control law. If the police didn’t pull up, you would have been massacred. The Gun Control Law shows no significant difference than the time it wasn’t around, so all the government is doing is taking a civilian’s personal defense. The Gun Control Law strict level should be lowered for/in these cases. Recently, a few mass shootings occurred, and all these victims had no
The article “Gun Control Laws: Should the United States adopt stronger gun control laws?” focuses on the debate on passing stricter gun control laws. For example, supporters believe that gun control laws will decrease mass shootings and gun violence. Additionally, adopting these laws does not violate the Second Amendment, and as a result it does not limit the government from the use of fire arms when it is necessary. However, opponents argue that the gun control laws will not stop gun violence. The problem is the people holding the gun and not the gun itself. Furthermore, opponents gathered that stronger gun control laws do violate the Second Amendment. The author illustrates the debate on whether the United States should or should not adopt stronger gun control laws.
The question of banning or permitting concealed guns evokes many more questions. According to Lott (2013), when the state legislative hearings were processed about concealed-handgun laws, the most usual concerns involved the problem of armed citizens who may possibly attack each other in the affected state that could follow car accidents, or even may accidentally shoot a dutiful police officer. However, the author argues, the evidence does not show the grounds for such fears: although 31 states have already had such concealed-handgun laws for many decades, there was only one case of a concealed handgun used in a shooting after a traffic accident. Moreover, that incident involved self-defense (Lott, 2013, p. 13).
With an increase in the number of mass shootings that have occurred in the United States in the last few years the issue of gun control laws has become a prevalent topic of debate throughout American society. This debate stems from two opposing arguments over gun control. Some feel gun control laws are fair and not the contributing factor to these mass shootings, whereas, others feel that there is an urgent need for strict laws in order to end the problem of mass shootings. There are numerous pros and cons to the enforcement of stricter gun control laws but we must note a few things: stricter gun control laws would interfere with the second amendment, it is not the gun that kills it is the individual, and it is ultimately not laws that are
Imagine enjoying a movie at the cinemas, eating food at McDonalds, or even sitting in class with a group of friends at your local high school, while some individuals around you are carrying loaded firearms. Although this seems unbelievable, the United States Constitutions give people the right to acquire and carry firearms. It is ridiculous that they allow their citizens to carry handguns, such as pistols. This should be strictly limited, due to that they are made exclusively for protection or the police. Due to this law, the murder rate in the United States have increased and this allows children to handle guns and possible kill other family members or other children. Gut-wrenching events like this can happen in a blink of an eye.
The year is 1978. A man is leaving his house to drive to work in the city of Chicago. He says goodbye to his wife and children and walks out to his car, starts up the engine, and proceeds to drive to work. When he arrives, a hooded man is walking up to him with a firearm and demands his money. Now this man has little to no money to feed his family or pay their bills, and he could have avoided all of this if he had just also had a firearm on him. All fifty states in the United States of America have concealed carry laws as of 2013, which is a great step in the acceptance of concealing firearms for normal civilians as no less than forty years ago only a handful of less than ten states in America had right to carry laws and they still needed extensive background checks and screenings, and now every single state in America has at least some form of right to carry laws, some states provide much more freedom to conceal carry as some citizens can conceal carry without a permit in certain states. “People who oppose concealed carry argue that neighborhoods and communities should have less guns, not more of them. They argue that adding more firearms to the situation will make small disputes such as a misunderstanding into an accidental shooting with someone being seriously injured.” Concealed carrying is about letting the average, law abiding citizen defend his or herself from possible attackers or
What gun control laws are going to help stop mass shootings? Even if the government banned the sale of assault rifles and guns in general, people with bad intentions are going to purchase them illegally. In the three recent mass shooting that caused many deaths, the shooters got their guns illegally with no trace of the sale on these weapons. Sandy Hook,Columbine, and San Bernardino were all mass shootings where the shooters got their guns illegally, stole the gun from family members or other people, and caused a lot of danger and harm to people. There would be no regulations to stop them because even if there were stricter gun laws, they still would be able to purchase their guns illegally.Stricter gun laws will not prevent crime, people will still get illegal firearms, and no sales to the public will reduce revenue.
Mass shootings have become a problem in the United States and the only way to decrease the number of incidents is to enforce stricter gun laws. In the recent years gun laws have come under fire for a variety of reasons that all stems back to the tolerance for high caliber and magazine weapons in our country. Assault rifles and other rapid-fire weapons have become all too easy to acquire in our nation and I believe the citizens of the United States have begun to realize this. Consumers have found loop holes around the newly implemented laws in the United States with third party acquisitions and gun shows that take place around the nation. With the recent laws that have been imposed, stricter background checks as well as an increase in the number of conceal and carry permits. I believe this is a great sign for our country with these laws, we are allowing citizens who have been trained and have checked all the boxes to carry weapons and ideally be in positions to defend us against attackers. For example, in San Antonio this last weekend a good Samaritan with a conceal and carry permit was able to wound an active shooter while he was fleeing the scene. I understand he did not prevent the incident, but I believe he was taking necessary actions to stop the shooter from harming other unarmed citizens. In this essay I will discuss what laws and precautions have been put in place to eliminate other incidents such as this one and whether they are adequate for this day and age.
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Courts have universally agreed, however, that the right provided by the Second Amendment is not absolute and that many kinds of gun legislation designed to protect public safety remain valid ("Gun Safety & Public Health," 2013). The ongoing debate between the gun rights versus gun control has caught more attention as number of cases involving gun violence increased significantly. In one study, it stated that major mental illnesses are associated with increased risk of violent act. In recent years, there were several news headlines on
Memorable End: Everyone has their own opinion about this situation and everyone has the right to feel the way they do. There are many reasons why someone might think that it is very dangerous for a person to have the right to carry a gun, but on the other side there are many of people who have a good reason to actually carry themselves. Do not judge a book by its cover until you have read in depth the book itself. One last thing I want to leave you all with is this “guns do not pull the triggers themselves, someone is behind that gun”. Would you feel safe with a gun on you or would you hate the idea of that?
Should gun control laws be changed? Well, first, gun control is entirely based off the notion that people are committing gun related crimes because they have access to them and these debates are whether or not the nation should ban guns entirely. This whole rebel of gun control change is said to help reduce violent crimes (Swickard). This is a well-known debate in today’s world. Many are involved in protests all around the world, while their schools are getting shot up and are asking for changes to make gun control laws stricter. However, the fact is, guns are not the problem in this world, it is the individual. If you put a gun in a criminal’s hand, they could do whatever they wish. Gun control laws should not be changed because current laws
Gun control laws should be strictly enforced because individuals can take advantage of the relaxed enforcement and harm others.
In the United States today, gun control is one of the most hot button issues in the political and social world. The debate on whether or not current gun laws are strict enough, what types of guns should be sold, and if they should be sold at all, is a large and ongoing one. While there are two very polarly different sides to the debate. The side of the debate, that aims to promote gun control is aiming to put a stop to the gun violence. However, Gun control or a gun ban, or even a complete repeal of the 2nd amendment, would not solve the problem of gun violence in this country. Not to mention, any ban on weapons should be considered as a violation of the second amendment. ( Document 2 ) Document 2, the second amendment, was put into the
Here we go again. Another argument on gun laws and why they should or shouldn't be made stricter in the US. The two sides of this argument have been going back and forth since the tragic shooting on February 14th, 2018 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida. This school shooting has triggered a massive disagreement on the two sides and people are not giving up on their opinions. Some people believe gun laws are just fine as they are, while others think gun laws should be stricter, like myself. Both sides of this argument have reasonable, valid points and it’s up tp the reader and their opinion to decide which side to take.
Virginia Devoe was attacked in her home in Clintonville, Ohio by her ex-boyfriend James Ryan McVey. McVey kicked in the door and dragged Devoe through her home while beating her along the way in an attempt to kidnap her. At this point Devoe’s neighbor, Shirley Bercraft, a ninety-one year-old gun owner came to her rescue. Bercraft drew his gun and shot and killed McVey, ending many years of abuse toward Virginia Devoe. This is just one of the thousands of cases where guns are used for self -defense every year in the United States. A local investigator praised Bercraft by saying, “It’s hard to know where she’d be now if he hadn’t [shot McVey].”(Waters 1) Despite the many times that the use of firearms and concealed weapons have saved the lives of the innocent, many people protest and petition to have firearms restricted to the American people. These people are usually driven by recent school shootings and murders such as Sandy Hook or Columbine. But as cliche’ as it may sound, guns don’t kill people, people kill people. Gun control laws have been enforced but historically have never worked out. Although many people believe that gun control laws would save lives, gun control laws should not be enforced because they violate the second Amendment, put innocent citizens in danger, and put guns into the hands of criminals.
In recent years, gun control has been one of the most debated topics in the United States. No matter who you ask, everyone always has an opinion on firearm ownership. After every publicized mass shooting, two groups of people form: group #1 wants to ban guns from private ownership in some shape or form, and group #2 fights against them fiercely to protect the constitutional right to bear arms. More specifically, the 2nd amendment to the U.S Constitution states, “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” (US Const. amend. II).
