Soldiers are held to a higher standard to a certain degree with regards to their actions in their personal life than typical companies hold their employees. In most professions outside of the military, if an employee receives a DUI, more than likely they are not subjected to discipline from their employer. This may hold true for non-violent criminal offenses that most employers would even know about unless the criminal proceeding leads to the employee's absence from work. In today’s Army, there are three levels of Leadership. We are going to talk about Direct and Organizational levels of the Army leadership. Direct leadership starts at the lowest level with the team leader of which has the most direct influence with Soldiers. Organizational Leaders have a staff to help them make decisions on a daily basis and provide the resources for the direct leaders to accomplish their mission. After 13 years of conflict, Mission Command could not have not even been more important than it is now. Both Direct and Organizational leaders must provide their subordinates intent and purpose in order for them to operate with in Mission Command.
In this chapter, the methodology that will be used to analyze US Army leadership effectiveness in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii will be discussed. The research question of how does sequestration impact US Army leadership effectiveness at Schofield Barracks will be evaluated by collecting data from soldiers and leaders at Schofield Barracks. Through surveys about their experiences after federal sequestration, the research will attempt to define if whether leadership is more or less effective after the implementation of the budget restrictions.
Leadership is defined by Peter G. Northouse as “a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal”. One’s leadership style can shape a subordinate’s approach and place emphasis to the task or mission at hand as well as accomplishing long term objectives. The role of any leader is to provide direction and guidance to those who may fall under his/her command. The manner in which leadership is applied, especially in today’s society and ever-changing geopolitical situations can vary significantly and be markedly effective or undermine the leader’s ability to lead. In the readings from the Canadian Military Journal (CMJ) several examples are provided to support each author’s viewpoint of leadership style and I will use these along with my own opinions and experiences to substantiate the importance of differing leadership styles as they pertain to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and the Profession of Arms in the 21st century.
The story of Invictus is based upon the life of Nelson Mandela during the time he held his Presidency of South Africa. Specifically, the movie focuses on his ideas of managing the Springboks and how the opportunity of using the country’s Rugby team unfolds as a way to bring the country together. Since The World Cup is being held in South Africa during the first year of his term, he sees The World Cup as an attempt to bring the whites and blacks together by finding pride in their home team’s victory. Mandela is successful at transforming the beliefs of South Africa through his styles of democratic leadership, transformational leadership, and interpersonal orientation leadership.

Army leaders, do we leave our sub-ordinates and units better than we found it?
You can ask ten different Soldiers what an Army leader is, or what they believe a good Army leader is. It will not matter the rank, time in service or the maturity level of that Soldier because more than likely you will get ten different answers. Everyone has their own opinions on what an Army leader is, or what they believe a good Army leader is. By definition leadership in the Army is the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation to accomplish the mission and improve the organization (ADRP 6-22, 2012). There are three leadership competencies that make an Army leader; leads, develops and achieves.
Throughout my life and my military career I have experienced various leadership styles, from civilian employers to military Officers and Non-Commissioned officers alike. Each had their own approach to leadership, some I found to be effective and others I did not. I have attempted to create a leadership philosophy based on a fusion of the leaders I have encountered and my own personal experiences.
The majority of my experience dealing with leadership in the Marine Corps had been both positive and negative. It always seemed like the great leaders that I did have the pleasure of following never had the chance to survive due to their power hungry superiors. We are all able to learn from the mistakes and success from all styles of leadership. What I am learning from this course is that each style of leadership can work depending on the type of organization. I try to imagine and embrace the thought of a world lead by transformational leadership. Leadership that would sets the standard for all organizations and leaders. Leaders should understand how significant their influences are and how they are in the positions to empower followers to invoke positive and ethical change that could create a ripple effect in today’s business world. In this paper I will be analyzing Martin Shkreli’s leadership style, focusing on how his values, ethics and abuse of power ultimately plummeted him into a pool of corruption and failure. Martin is currently one of the most disliked individuals in Wall Street, social media and by the consumers that rely on the life saving drug, Daraprim. Not only am I appalled by Martine Shkreli’s leadership style, I am also very disappointed with how long his followers encouraged his behavior. Summary: In this article the authors are addressing future leaders, and they immediately inform the reader that because there is more complexity considerably more complex issues and technologies than a century ago in the operational military environment, there is a great need for military leaders to achieve autonomy in terms of adapting to and learning about the evolving environment. Using the analysis of the Battle of Chattanooga and various memoirs from General Sherman and Grant, biographies about Grant, and reliable resources from researchers, such as J.F.C. Fuller, and the Library of Congress, this paper details the events of the battle and the events that preceded the battle in direct correlation with the leadership decisions that impacted the outcome of these events. The leaderships being directly compared in this analysis are that of General William S. Rosecrans and Major-General Ulysses S. Grant. For the purposes of this comparison, these leaderships at Chattanooga are divided into two phases: Phase I being Rosecrans’, and Phase II being Grant’s impact at Chattanooga.

While the primary purpose of the United States justice system is to dispense "justice," that is not the primary reason for the creation of a separate justice system for America's Armed Forces.
