The crusades caused many valuable and memorable structures for the christians and the muslims to be destroyed. The crusades had some positive outcomes, but there were many, many negative impacts on people’s lives. There are many reasons why the crusades were awful to the ancient human times.
There were many why the crusade had a terrible impact on the world, here is the first reason why.
Document 1 states that The crusaders failed to achieve their goal which was to conquer the Holy Land and sometimes the crusaders turned their fury to the Jews. This is (important/interesting/relevant)
The Crusades was a horrific bloody war between the two biggest religions today the Christians and the Muslims . It went from the eleventh century to about the thirteenth century. The crusades still has effects on us today because of religious hatred between Muslims and Christians and the Christians turned on each other. The main question is it negative or positive after all, in my opinion it pretty obvious that it is a negative because they left a culture of religious hate and intolerance, and then set in stone to divide between the Christian churches. After the Crusades, Christians and Muslims were still extremely hostile to each other, and Christians started attacking the Jews, it wasn't fair at all because the Jews never even took joined the Crusades.
The Crusades was an era in which a party of Crusaders invaded Jerusalem, a land which had been controlled by Muslims, in order to conquer what Christians and Muslims call the Holy Land. The war initially began when Pope Urban II declared a crusade and by persuading Christian believers that it was the duty and obligation to protect Christianity, he was able to slaughter, kill and destroy the Muslims living in Jerusalem. In return, the Muslims found no other resolution but to annihilate and avenge against the Christians. Whether or not the Crusaders believed that they were combative because they had valid reasons; from the point of view of the Christian and Muslims, the Crusades were definitely not just wars.
Crusades can be understood as holy wars between different types of religious believes that were fought between the Church and Islam. What the term actually means is “to bear a cross” . This was an effect from the Europeans from the west causing wars between Islam in the Middle East because their religion were different and fighting for the Holy Land. The Crusades caused an enormous amount of bloodshed for the purpose of different societies having different religious believes fighting for Jerusalem which was the holy land important to both Christians and Muslims. While development of spread of religions, they are a series of holy wars lead by the Popes against Islam and fought by religious crusaders which lead in affecting Christians and Muslims
Many disagree whether the Crusades could be called a Christian holy war. This same disagreement happens between Jonathan Phillips and Arthur Jones. Jonathan Phillips believes that the Crusades can not be considered a holy war. On the other hand, Arthur Jones believes they can. Each author has their own objectives for writing and uses evidence to support each side of the argument.
While their were some positive aspects to the Crusades their were many negative. To join the Crusades it was a high cost. Soldiers had to leave their homes in groups and had to pay for anything they needed along their journey. The amount of money they would have to pay was an amount that most cannot Afford. Some people had to sell many of they things such as land and personal items. The wealthier people and the Church used taxes which they raised to help them get money and make a bigger hardship for the poor. Some of the Soldier. had to take loans just to pay for their journey and it was still hard for them.
The crusades were a series of holy wars called by popes with the promise of indulgences for those who fought in them and
Besides having the Crusades being negative based on dying and losing their main objective, another example as to why the Crusades ended so negatively, is that many lands were demolished and robbed. In addition, in document 4 it indicates “ … the crusaders and the Venetians stormed Constantinople,, sacked the city, destroying its magnificent library, and grabbed thousands of relics that were later sold in Europe. From destruction, the Byzantine Empire as a political unit never recovered.” This is pertinent because it is clearly stated that they had destroyed buildings and when things are destroyed it’s rarely a good thing. Another thing that shows negativity is that after the Byzantine Empire was sacked, it never repaired. When something is damaged, it’s really bad for the people who have a relation to it. So when they had destroyed the Byzantine Empire, it must’ve hurt many people to see their city ruined. Furthermore in document B is states “Jerusalem was taken from the north on the morning of July 15, 1099. The population was put to the sword by the Franks, who pillaged the area for a week.
The Crusades were a holy war consisting of numerous conflicts that were authorized by the pope that were targeted against groups seen as adversaries to the Christian way of life. The Crusades lasted for approximately 196 years, and the battles went from 1095 to 1291. These conflicts were battles that Christians waged against Muslims to regain Jerusalem and the rest of the Holy Land from the Muslims. The initial motivation behind the crusades was to expel Muslims from the Holy Land and for the Christians to regain control of that area. However; the later campaigns were motivated by a desire for prosperity and new land, as well as gaining political power for those in charge. The Crusades were most definitely wars that were very violent and
The Crusades were some of the most well known religious wars in history. These wars were mission driven and very cruel. Many people perished in this fight to regain their land. The Crusades changed Europe for the better. It helped the economy and spread cultures. Many people were involved in the Crusades. There were a few reasons why the Crusades occurred. There were many Crusades that occurred and they lasted for many years.
The Crusades were a number of wars fought by the Christians and Muslims to acquire and control the Holy Land. The goal for each side was the same take Jerusalem for there religion. During the the First Crusade the Christians claimed the Holy Land. After that it consisted of a long and terrible fight of the Muslims and Christians claiming and fighting over the Holy Land. The last crusade was The Seventh Crusade. People at the time thought the sixth crusade was the last one, but the Muslims created an insurrection that ended the peace treaty that both the Christians and Muslims had made together. After that The Seventh Crusade made its way on stage which was the end of the crusades. The only thing I can think of that motivated both sides of the war was religion. Each one had significant ties to the Holy Land and did not want to share it. I know that on the Christian side the Pope would pardon every sin that was committed by every knight during the crusade, which in fact is why some people started thinking and questioning if Catholicism was the religion to be a part of. Muslims viewed anything that the Christians did as
Eight very special medieval battles are known to history as the Crusades. These crusades were each led by different people. The eight Crusades occurred from 1095-1270. The first Crusade being in 1095-1101, the second from 1145-1147, the third from 1188-1192, the fourth in 1204, the fifth in 1217, sixth from 1228-1229, the seventh from 1249-1252, and eighth in 1270. There may have been a 9th crusade, which may have occurred before the 3rd Crusade. The cause of these crusades is to attack the enemies of the church and reclaim the holy land, Jerusalem. The Crusaders thought what they were doing is right, but from many other people’s point of view, they were killing uselessly. In the end, the Knights Templar were unable to reclaim Jerusalem, but their Crusades did have other achievements. Even today, the Crusades still interest the minds of many young and old readers and have lasting effects on history.
The Crusades were religious wars which happened between 1096 and 1291. The wars were fought between the European Christians and Muslims in the Middle East to take control of the Holy Land which was Jerusalem. The first four Crusades were seen as the most important but there was not much reference to the other Crusades.
"Crusade," The word itself almost leaves a foul taste in a Christians mouth as they look back at those dark times in the Church's history. The Crusades are not a "dark time" in the Church's history. It is a time full of historical significance and it constantly gets overlooked and seen as a mistake. Perhaps, however, it is not a mistake, one could make a case for the Crusaders that they were only trying to protect the relics and sites they saw as holy. One thing that many Christians do not understand, however, are the motives behind these "holy" wars. If one asks a Christian today who the Pope was during the time of the first crusade, the one that started them all, many would not be able to.
The crusades was a very important thing in history that not only affected the Western era, but the entire world. The crusades can be the event that is accredited with the way that society looks at “holy wars” or wars of religion. Reasons for the crusades are the threat that the Turks presented to Christian territories, massive spread of Christianity, and for pilgrimage (completing God’s will).
The Crusades were military expeditions by the Christian Kings and knights to rescue the Holy Land from the Muslim Turks (Damen, 2013). Almost all of the Crusades, except the First Crusade failed; The 2nd Crusade marked the fall of Edessa, the 3rd Crusade allowed Christians to enter the Holy Land, but they were still subject to Koranic Law, the 4th Crusade was known as the bloodiest Crusade as the Frenchmen and the Venetians rerouted to Constantinople, the Children’s Crusade left many children dead or sold to slavery, and lastly the minor crusades(5th until the 9th Crusade) were not of help to the Holy Land (The Crusades and Medieval Christianity, 2015). What sets apart the First Crusade was that Pope Urban II had successfully captured the Holy
