Special effects makeup has been, and always will be a passion of mine. Over the years, I’ve found myself to never really pay attention to a movie that plays, but rather, always be fascinated with the little details that no one really notices. I’ve always sat and wondered exactly how certain effects were created. The curiosity as lead me to attempt to recreate some of the effects that I’ve seen. Research has lead me to acquire a vast knowledge of the molding process that makeup artists use to create prosthetics, I have become familiar with well-known makeup artists, and I have discovered certain replacements for the time consuming processes that may occur during the creation phase.

As the years progressed society was conditioned to think that makeup was made for women. Outside ancient Egypt women had done above and beyond to enhance their beauty to become better suited for a mate or to be considered beautiful. Before makeup was even introduced to world, women went to the extremes of using burnt matches to darken their eyes, using berries to stain there cheeks and lips, and even swallow oxblood to improve overall complexion. Make-up has been beloved by woman throughout history. Some wear a little, some wear a lot, it can make a statement, or it can be simple. We are introduced to make-up at a young age. As a young child we all loved to play with our mother’s make-up. I know firsthand that smothering my face in my mother’s deep purple eye shadow and bright red lipstick was a favorite past time of mine. Even now as a grown adult I buy my younger cousins make-up kits for holidays and birthdays. I laugh and snap pictures of them drawing a neon pink smile across their faces with lipstick. But if you take a look at what ingredients go in to that lipstick that that ten year old has in his or her hand, it would not be so funny.

While makeup can enhance natural features, females shouldn't wear too much makeup because it is bad for them. Makeup doesn't allow innate features to show, makeup is expensive, and makeup can cause acne and dry skin. Chemicals in makeup have been blamed for causing dryness, irritation and acne, and they have even been linked to cancer and hormone disruption.

The main purpose of cosmetics is unmistakable- to make you prettier. Women wear varying amounts of makeup depending on the occasion, the time of day, or just personal preferences. Makeup can be broken down into categories. Skin makeup consists of foundation, concealer, powder, and blusher. Eye makeup includes: mascara, shadow, liner, and brow definer. Lip makeup is comprised of products such as lipstick, lip gloss, and lip liner.
