In this book “The Ravine”, Vinny and Joe-Boy have a lot of character traits.I’m going to do compare and contrast. Joe-Boy and Vinny are best friends. Graham Salisbury said how Vinny isn’t rough because he doesn’t fight back, when Joe-Boy teasing him. Joe-Boy is not a nice friend to Vinny because he says to Vinny, “You’re stepping in the dead boys foot prints. When you go into the pond and you’ll touch his face. You might be the one who finds the dead body.” Vinny just scowls and winced at Joe-Boy. Joe-Boy have a lot of differences. The text shows that Joe-Boy is dating Starlene and she’s not Hawaiian, Vinny isn’t dating anyone. Vinny is getting the creeps and scared about the dead boy, Joe-Boy isn’t the same. He’s not scared, but he’s just
Although they are all different ages they all stay friends. They support each other through hard family times, for example; during the novel. Friendship is especially shown when Ponyboy runs away to hide with Johnny, so that Johnny don’t get into trouble with the police after killing a socs. Johnny shows that he cares about Ponyboy, but taking him back home to be with his two brothers. At the end of the novel, friendship is shown by Dally, committing suicide, as he can’t handle to live without Johnny.
The movie "A Bronx Tale" is about a young boy named Cologero Anello, who grew up in an Italian neighborhood called the Bronx in New York City. At nine years old, Cologero already had a role model and that was Sonny LoSecchio, the neighborhood's mob boss. After he saved Sonny from getting arrested for killing a guy over what seemed to be a parking space. Sonny got him involved in gang activities, gambling and serving at the bar. His father Lorenzo Anello, a New York City bus driver didn't want his son to be friends with Sonny because he wanted him to focus on school and not get involved with gangs at the bar. Cologero didn't listen to his dad and throughout the movie he learnt important life lessons from these two men. Even though Sonny and Lorenzo were different in their way of raising Cologero, they also played as father figures to Cologero.
In this book, everyone was part of a gang and everyone looked at each other as either a Soc ,or a Greaser. Johnny, who has been abusively beaten while getting jumped and from his own father at home, and Pony save children from a burning house. No one would expect the hoodlums to risk their lives to save children. They have a reputation for doing illegal things and getting arrested. However, newspapers have stories on the two and labelled them as “heroes”. Dally, who was the toughest and baddest of all the Greasers, kills himself. The true reason behind this was because after going to the hospital to visit Johnny, he witnessed watching him die right in front of his eyes. Johnny’s death makes him rob a store and having the police intentionally kill him. The only thing that he loved was Johnny and his beloved thing was gone. This shows that Dally, even though he’s a Greaser and does all these horrible things, has feelings. Even people who genuinely knew him, labelled him as having no feelings. Also, Randy, who is a soc, talks to Pony about Bob and how he was just a regular guy who had his own problems. The only reason that Bob would act out and drink a lot was because his parents would never set boundaries. He just wanted for someone to tell him “No”. Cherry Valance, who was Bob’s girlfriend, even said that he was actually sweet. This shows that people are individuals and that labels don’t say who you
Have you ever had a friend who was mean to you and argued with you? Vinny and Joe-Boy are both characters in a story called “The Ravine”. They are best friends who live in Hawaii and go to a ravine to cliff jump and swim. There was a boy who died there two weeks and one day before they arrived. Joe-Boy and Vinny are different in many ways and they are similar in some ways.
Vinny and Joe-Boy are similar they are also different too maybe more than the other but still the same and in the same way different in more ways Vinny is a scared, weak, good friend.Joe-Boy is a brave, strong, but yet is a bad friend
One characteristic of Vinny is that he is scared. On Pg 7 Vinny was scared of getting caught going to the Ravine by his mom. She told him to stay away from the Ravine. He goes anyway, but is scared of getting caught. Another characteristic of Vinny is that he is weak. On page seven, Vinny says, “He was so weak, he couldn’t even say ‘no’. But if I said ‘no, my mother wouldn’t like it’ they would have laughed him right off the island. No choice. He had to go.” This quote from VInny shows that he is weak because he can’t stand up to his friends. Vinny is also afraid of heights. On pg 7, Vinny says, “He couldn’t imagine what it must feel like to be up there, especially if you were afraid of heights like he was.” This line shows that Vinny is scared of heights.
Janie and Joe relationship change a lot over the time. Now their relationship was not good as before when they meet for first time because now Joe yelled at Janie and talk rudely with her. Joe don’t allowed Janie to go anywhere in their city. He told her to stay at his store every time. When people come in their store and talk Joe don’t allowed Janie to be part of their talk. A little helpless things was going on inside of Janie because she can’t do anything because Joe was change a lot he was not listing to her word. Some people are saying something about the Janie that time Joe listens to them and he told Janie to tip up her hair around the store. Joe behavior have change a lot he was not nice to Janie as before so their relationship also
The Johnny gasped and turned white as a ghost then red with rage. While all of the other boys were looking at the Ponyboy who was drowning, Johnny pulled a knife out of his back pocket, I gasped I knew what he was going to do seconds before he did it. “Wait!” I screamed, but the boy didn’t even acknowledge me. I turned around, I couldn’t watch. This reminded me too much of Yaqui beating me up, but this was different, these boys fought unlike we did. The way we fought it wasn’t killing each other or anything like that, but it was almost worse. Being humiliated in front of the whole school. Both Ponyboy and I got hurt though mine was both mentally and physically. The only other thing that I could see that connected our two lives was that we both fought back. Well actually Johnny fought for Ponyboy, but it’s pretty much the same, in the end the bullies both got what they deserved. No, that’s not true, nobody (even Yaqui Delgado) deserves to die. By the time I turned back around the boys were driving away in their car and the boy who had been killed was slumped on the ground not moving. The other boy; Johnny was helping to pull his friend; Ponyboy out of the water
In addition to the issues within the family, the crime committed against mother has cause inner turmoil for Joe. He is faced with the feelings of obligation to avenge his mother. He sees her sheltering herself every day in her bedroom, slowly becoming just a shell of the woman she used to be. “The damned carcass had stolen from her. Some warm part of her was gone and might not return. This new formidable woman would take getting to know, and I was thirteen. I didn’t have the time” (Erdrich 193), says Joe. Feeling more and more alone, Joe is forced into
Joe’s understanding of war in Johnny Got His Gun is very similar to Boy’s in the sense that he doesn’t really understand what he would be fighting for in a battle. One example of this is when Joe is at the train station with his family awaiting his send-off to war. During this send off Joe didn’t really question why he was going to war or what he would be doing in war. He went without and hesitation which shows that his

Have you ever been afraid of anything? Like heights or been pressured to do something that you didn’t want to do? Both characters act completely different when confronted by another character in the story. The man is more concerned about the safety of the boy and himself. However, the boy wants to do anything and everything to help anyone that they come across. For example, during one situation in the story, a thief attempted to steal all their belongings. When the man caught him, the boy started crying, “Papa?...Papa please don’t kill the man” (McCarthy 256). In contrast, after the man caught the thief the man held him at gun point and said, “If you dont put down the knife and get away from the cart...I’m going to blow your brains out” (McCarthy 256).The man is more concerned with their safety, whereas the boy is concerned about the wellbeing and safety of the thief. The man acts in a similar manner to Ely when the boy wants to give him food, “In the morning they stood in the road and he and the boy argued about what to give the old man” (McCarthy 173). These two characters can collide sometimes when deciding on whether or not they should give food to people like Ely or “The Lightning Man”. Not only are they different when confronted by another character, they are also different on the way they look at arising situations.
In the movie A Bronx Tale, young Calogero witnessed a shooting outside his house. The cops show up at his house later that day to question him. The police officer had Calogero go to where the police had a line of men who were suspects of the shooting. Calogero got to Sonny, who was pretty much the head gangster of the neighborhood. Calogero knew it was Sunny but chose to tell the police it wasn’t any of them. The lie that Calogero told to the police is morally wrong because according to Pollock, in the ethics book “Morals and morality refer to what is judged as good conduct. (Pollock, 8, 2012). I would say that the lie he told
Joe is respected by his son Chris throught the story but when chris finds out that his dad knew about the broken cylinder heads and he still shipped them out he lost the respect for him.
