Comp 1 3/12/2013 The Razors Edge The Razors Edge was a story created in 1944 and two years later was transformed film (in 1946) and redone in the mid-1980s. It is a captivating story of a man’s quest to find the meaning of life. The movie brought you to many places and left me questioning many actions, only to find the answer of why he did it shortly after his actions. This movie has many meanings, it makes you think, it gets under your skin, and it really makes you think about how you live your life. The first time I saw this movie, it did not have much effect on me, it was the second and third time I watched it that it really provoked such thought and showed me so many meanings in one film; it was astonishing. One of the …show more content…
That’s no way to live a life at all. Although I did find some other smaller meanings in the movie, I do believe these are the most important and the ones that stood out the most. I believe if I were to watch this again, I could find even more. This movie brought me to questioning some of the things I did as well and made me wonder where my true happiness can be found. I believe I am on my own quest now to figure where I want life to take
To start, the film seems like your basic run-on-the mill coming of age tale with a group of teenagers growing up to desire more after they graduate high school. However, there are various more themes discreetly displayed throughout the runtime of the film. For example, one central sociological overtone of this film is Marxism. With this overtone, it becomes possible to view this light-hearted and comedic movie in a
This movie explores issues of greed, human relationships, betrayal and redemption, personal innocence and responsibility as well as the effects on the human mind
This movie gives us a perfect example of how a conflict was not handled effectively because assumptions were made, the character jumped to conclusion, due to this the issue became worse than it should have been. The communication dynamics in this was always done through someone else therefore one person would get upset, because he misunderstood the person that was giving him information.
This movie Directed by Paul Haggis who also directed Academy Award Winning "Million Dollar Baby" and had also won an Academy Award for this movie as well puts a twisted story in this film. This movie is trying to symbolize what goes on in the world today in regards to racism and stereotypes. He tries to make a point on how societies view themselves and others in the world based on there ethnicities. This movie intertwines several different people's lives, all different races, with different types of beliefs. Such ethnicities include Caucasians, African Americans, Hispanics, Asians and Middle Eastern. This movie includes conflicts on both sides of the picture from cops and criminals as well
My views on this heart moving film would be never to give up in life, and with the right amount of determination you can succeed anything. The film tells us the simple, but moving story with a skilled storyteller's voice. The great importance of their
One of the themes that stand out the most in the film is the struggle to overcome adversity and push through problems in one’s life that could otherwise get in the way from achieving goals. In the film, many
Q.1. What do you think is the main messages this movie is trying to deliver?
The playwright was trying to get quite a few messages when he created this play. First of all, I believe he was trying to show social change and the power and potential that an individual has inside of them, despite their circumstances. I think that this play/movie reveals the true messiness of life and how with the right mindset, you can make it through anything you
We are born into this world with the realization that life is hard and that life is like a box of chocolates and it is hard to take it at face value. The majority of our time is spent trying to answer an endless stream of questions only to find the answers to be a complex path of even more questions. This film tells the story of Harold, a twenty year old lost in life and haunted by answerless questions. Harold is infatuated with death until he meets a good role model in Maude, an eighty year old woman that is obsessed with life and its avails. However, Maude does not answer all of Harold’s questions but she leads him to realize that there is a light at the end of everyone’s tunnel if you pursue it to utmost extremes by being whatever you
Despite different contexts, both Shelley’s Frankenstein and Scott’s Blade Runner enthrall the audience in a journey to explore the inner psyche through the various perspectives that are drawn.
The degree of connection between all of the characters in the movie is so coincidental and interrelated to emphasize the point that we do not always know what is going on with everyone else we may encounter. It also accentuates the fact that racism is not one particular race against another. It also shows that we never know someone’s situation and what is happening in their life to make them act the way that they do if
"I would not think of quarreling with your interpretation nor offering any other, as I have found it always the best policy to allow the film to speak for itself."
In a way this movie is social commentary, in a world that wants people to believe they can trust everyone the movie shows what it is like when you
A handful of conflicted characters, a substantial amount of drama, and a dash of enlightenment - this is what makes up “The Razor’s Edge” by W. Somerset Maugham. After initial character introduction, this book quickly reveals how unwise it is to put complete faith in first impressions.
The movie doesn’t relate to me because I am Christian. My beliefs are different. As an example, I think there is a God. It also challenges my religion beliefs. The movie and the religion say that there is no God to believe in a person is just trying to reach the inner-self and find Nirvana. In my religion I believe there is a god who I worship. Since I was a little kid I was taught there is a God in school also in the house by reading the Holy Bible. Also Buddhism in movie they say that Atman or soul in not a thing or that it doesn’t exist. In my religion I believe that everyone has a soul. Another thing the movie shows is reincarnation. Buddhists believe that after dying they are born again in another body with the same thoughts that they had in the past life. An example of that would be, when Lama Norbu tells Jesse’s father whose name is Dean about how the contents of mind are that same when a person is reborn. My beliefs are different. When I die I believe that my soul is going to another place which is either Heaven or Hell. I don’t believe that I would be born or at least that’s what my faith tells me. This Movie would relate to someone whose religion is Hinduism. That’s mainly because a lot of things are related to it such as
