The Great Debate Today, many Americans are becoming more independent in their political views. The rise of the millennial generation has essentially based their views on who is running for office rather than their initial beliefs on certain political issues. Americans must be able to voice their opinions to the government on issues that they believe are important. Topics like the ISIS Crisis, Immigration Reform, legalization of marijuana, and gun control must be talked about. The most recent terrorism act that America has witnessed is from the Islamic group, ISIS. The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria is an extremist group who have been known to kidnap and murder people from around the world. Although ISIS has not directly attacked the …show more content…
While it is possible to obtain citizenship in the U.S., it can be a very lengthy and costly process. The problem with this, is that many of these immigrants are not following the guidelines because of the amount of time it takes to become a citizen. Because of this, the United States has nearly twelve million undocumented immigrants in the country (Migrationpolicy.org).
Although there has not been a definite answer as to how the United States is going to keep out undocumented immigrants, President Obama stated, “We are not going to ship back 12 million people, we 're not going to do it as a practical matter. We would have to take all our law enforcement that we have available and we would have to use it and put people on buses, and rip families apart, and that 's not who we are, that 's not what America is about. So, what I 've proposed... is you say we 're going to bring these folks out of the shadows. We 're going to make them pay a fine, they are going to have to learn English, they are going to have to go to the back of the line...but they will have a pathway to citizenship over the course of 10 years” (Reform, Immigration). Building a wall around the United States will not help the matter of immigrants coming in illegally. To secure the borders, the government must increase the number of border patrol agents, add additional fencing where it is needed, and
In the article, “The New Greatest Generation: Why Millennials Will Save Us All,” by Joan Stein, Stein expresses his views through a complex game of mind control. He captures his audience, the older generations, in the beginning of the article by writing what they want to hear, then switches to the difficult truth, and finally tells the audience that it doesn't matter about what he has to say, but by how they view change. His claim, “So, yes, we have all that data about narcissism and laziness and entitlement. But a generation's greatness isn't determined by data; it's determined by how they react to the challenges that befall them,” (Stein 34) shows just how much he wants to show his audience the difficult truth, and makes them feel bad about being mean to the millennials.
Terrorism within or against the United States is not a new phenomenon. Our history is well documented with thousands of attempts and actual acts of terrorism that happened on U.S. soil. The first act of terrorism can be traced back to 1865 with the assassination of President Lincoln, but the first and boldest foreign terrorist attack occurred in New York City on February 26, 1993. Over 1,000 people were injured and six were killed when a group of Islamic terrorists detonated a rental truck equipped with explosives underneath the World Trade Center. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) later discovered that the explosion at the World Trade Center was a dress rehearsal for the most devastating and deadly terrorist attack to reach our nation,
Housing options are increasingly becoming a challenge in the United States of America. Competition is at an all-time high, as age and population forcibly create irremediable problems. The main challenge is being posed by baby boomers and millennials in the real estate market. For instance, many Americans depend on mortgages to finance their asset acquisitions. Income levels are plummeting, while the increase in mortgage rates and prices make it hard for many Americans to be able to afford various mortgage products that are being offered by financial institutions. Although housing options have arguably been growing at everlasting rate through construction, millennials might have an increasingly more difficult time relocating after college due
The older generations seem to think that millennials are causing problems with today’s society. However, we have done just the opposite. With these horrendous acts of racism, sexism, and homophobia going around, most young people of this generation are trying to stop these events. More and more often, you will turn on the news and see a boycott of a company or product, or more recently, protests of Donald Trump’s election. Where exactly have we learned this from? Our founding fathers. This entire country was based on people wanting to make a change. Whether or not the changes are done with guns or words, revolution is in America’s blood.
The American dream hasn’t died and it’s still alive today with the young Americans generation know as “Millennials.” The traditional pathway in reaching the dream has been altered to include bigger and better expectations. Young Americans want to have ownership without the help of their parents, but there’s certain things that come in between. Back in the days it was fairly easy for the Baby Boomers and Gen-X while attending school. Typically, not all Millennials attend college therefore the majority of them have other envisions. Millennials don’t have the same ideas as back then they want to travel and explore before settling down, owning a house and be sure to have flexibility.
Millennials are growing up, and they start to have a bigger influence on “America politics, culture, and ideas” (Gillenspie 14) than the Silent Generation (1929-1945), the baby boom (1945-1961), and Generation X (1965-1980) respectively. Similar to the old generation, millennials praises people who work hard, “a figure similar to that of older Americans” (Gillenspie 17). Though, rather than constantly supporting a specific political party like the older generation or their parents, millennials pay more attention to whether “a party consistently puts together candidates and platforms that reflect their values” (Gillenspie 15). These values most relate to attitudes toward cultural issues and practical problems instead of political ideologies.
Most people have a learning style that mirrors how they were taught when they were younger. It should be noted that there is not a one size fits all method when it comes to learning. The key to being able to appeal to each of the different generations is to offer diversity in teaching styles in order to satisfy the different preferences. As of now, there are four generations that are in the workforce and those four generations are: The Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, and the Millennials. This paper will examine the characteristics of these four generations, how their learning styles differ, and what to
Millennials are born 1980- 2000 they are considered to be good for society because they are not willing to settle they search for what they want and won’t stop until they get it. Basically, in the video “Millennials you’ve got us all wrong” is about how millennials aren’t going to change, so the world has to adapt to them, we see many places doing this. The video also speaks about the changes that millennials have made upon this world for the good. Millennials are looking for places that are willing to adapt to them and not the other way around so large cities are having to change the way they have things to adapt to a millennials life style which not in turn helps everyone out. Millennials not settling makes it better because with
Obama plans on deporting criminals and not families. Criminals come to the United States with bad intentions but mostly because they are fleeing from a crime committed in their country. Undocumented immigrants who have not caused trouble in the United States are are less likely to be deported this is not including criminals. Families are being separated by deportation while criminals are not being found and getting away with serious crimes (“Taking Action On Immigration”). Deporting criminals that are threats to the nation is not being done enough, yet families are being torn apart that are no threat to this country(“Taking Action On Immigration”). To reside in the U.S there is a list of requirements, undocumented immigrants must do their duties as any other American citizen would do they must pay taxes and have a criminal background check in order. President Obama’s speech also mentioned protecting parents who have American born children from deportation this is roughly 3.5 million immigrants who have had children in the United States and they are American citizens (Bradner). Immigration reform is not a new topic that President Obama has discussed but it is important that it is
The graph above represents the age and generational differences between the members of our work group from Cocoa Dolce resulting in every one of our five team members: Haley, Calli, Bekah, Lisa, Tim being a millennial with an age range from 22-31 years old.
Read any article on millennials and the church and one will find one constant. Millennials are leaving the church and churches have no real answer for it. Like with anything that is read, it must be taken with a grain of salt. Honestly things can have a different vantage point. There are churches reaching this generation. The issue is when churches do not change. There is one thing that never changes and that is the message of Christ, but the churches that fail to change their methods will not be able to effectively reach this generation.
There are many ways to slice and serve the generation gaps like cheese, there are many kinds of cheese, but it's all comes from the same place. No matter what you call the generations (Gen Z, Gen Me, iGen) they are born into an advanced society caressed with an overwhelming amount of technology. As Williams puts it in his published article, Move Over, Millennials: Here Comes Generation Z, "sure Millenials were digital; their teenage years were defined with ipods and myspace. But Gen Z is the first generation to be raised in an era of smartphones"
Millennials always have new focuses and different causes to fight for. The millennial generation or generation Y, tends to be known as the generation that gets caught up in rapid trend cycles, fast fashion, and throw away consumerism. While the millennial generation is criticized for these different points, it raises the question if they are actually implementing pro-environmental practices. This article looked at how generations households affect the environment and compared them, the authors tried to tie the sustainabilities of the households to their specific generations to see if there was room for comparison. The article is published in Science direct on the Geoforum. Publishing the article on this site allowed the article to be reviewed heavily before it was allowed to be released and enabled the authors to provide the public with an accurate message. The authors found that Generation Y households are more concerned with the environment, however are not implementing the pro-environmental processes that those of the older generations are. Pro-environmental practices would include, turning off the water while brushing your teeth, shorter showers, buying from farmers markets, air drying clothes rather than using a dryer, etc. Generation Y also expressed high levels of environmental concern while the older generations were a little more wary. The authors of this article mainly compared generation Y with the silent generation, however the authors did survey all the
Don Peck paints a depressing picture of the future of America in his article “How a New Jobless Era Will Transform America”. Unemployment is a disease that has plagued our country for decades, but this country has always survived and recovered. America will survive this high unemployment. Although the high unemployment threatens the career path of this generation, it is more than able to survive through a positive outlook and continuing education, but American families may not be able to return to the traditional appearance because this
As the millennial generation is starting to join the workforce and positions of power many are concerned that they’re ill equipped and ready for having power in a business or even government. Although some readily criticize millennials for being too reliant on their phones, lazy and ignorant. They fail to consider the intelligence, innovative traits, and technological knowledge. However, most of us can agree that laziness and lack of manners remains an issue that must be considered. Ultimately, if the millennial generation begins to make a change to the little things that gives them their bad reputation and become more optimistic about the future, then we could be the most innovative, important, and impactful generation yet.
