The Mirabal sisters or Mariposas, are three revolutionaries who inspired and assisted the overthrow of Rafael Trujillo, the dictator in the Dominican republic. These sisters at a young age observed countless flaws in Trujillo's Regime, he was overpowering and passed many unjust laws. The Mirabals, especially knew that they had to do something to end this terrible regime, so they joined the revolution. These brave women sacrificed raising their own children and even their own lives. These revolutionaries are viewed as selfish by numerous people because they left behind their own children. The three Mirabal sisters left their children with Dede their other sister, and left to fight for this revolution. I got the amazing chance to interview Minou Mirabal, the daughter of Minerva Mirabal. She has grown up to be a politician, and goes to work every day knowing that her free wonderful life would not be possible without her mother's sacrifices. If the Mirabal sisters didn't make these sacrifices their children would have grown up in an unfair country. Minou understands that her mother had to let her go in order to provide a good life for her and her country.
The Mirabals sacrificed their lives to free our country, so that we and our children could live in a free country. Trujillo’s henchmen murdered the Mirabal sisters, and made it look like an accident. Furthermore, their death led to other revolutionaries deciding to assassinate Trujillo to end his terrible regime. It undeniably justifiable for three women to risk their lives to save their families and country, their selfless actions are the reason the Dominican Republic is the way it is
