John Ford’s 1956 film, The Searchers, is a classic Western tale set in the staked plains, post-Civil War era. Like most of John Ford’s Western films, The Searchers is also filmed in Monument Valley, Arizona/Utah. John Ford first introduces Ethan Edwards (John Wayne) returning on horseback to his brother, Aaron Edwards’s (Walter Coy) house three years after the Civil War. Ethan is introduced to Martin Pawley (Jeffery Hunter), the adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwards. The film moves forward when Rev. Captain Clayton (Ward Bond) volunteers Ethan, Marty, and a group of men to search for the Jorgensen’s missing cattle. The search turns its tracks when the men realize that the Edwards family have been killed by the Comanche Indians, and Debbie (Natalie Wood) and Lucy (Pippa Scott) are taken by Scar. Although Ethan is the anti-hero, him and Marty are the protagonists of The Searchers. Both Ethan and Marty’s lives are flipped upside down and are now on a journey to save Debbie and Lucy. The antagonist, Scar, is possibly considered Ethan’s alter ego because they share several similarities. Throughout the film, Ethan and Marty face many challenges accepting their background and issues. The overall meaning of the film is to let go of the past and accept what the future has to offer; John Ford’s use of paradigm, style, and themes drives the overall meaning throughout the film.
Notably, John Ford’s paradigm moves the overall meaning of the film by the structure of the events which take

A critical theory by Robin Wood posits that the filmic genres popularized by the Hollywood system are not "discrete", but represent "different strategies for dealing with the same ideological tensions." (478) Wood claims that conventional theories fail to address this ideological phenomenon, and proposes a search for the myths and contradictions, produced by American capitalism, which fuel disparate filmic genres. Wood's attempt to discuss this ideology lists the "components" of a definition of "American capitalist ideology." (476) One component is the character of "the ideal male", the potent hero of the American way. (477) As the films produced out of capitalism tend to uphold the system's ideology, the hero
The book Ready Player One, by Ernest Cline is a book set in the future, where our world is in poverty and chaos. This is because we are almost out of oil, and so a massive power shortage has occurred. The only way people can escape this is too play a online game that has become the internet. This game is called OASIS.
Living in a perfect world where everyone was happy, resources were plentiful, and the word war was never spoken would be the ideal place to live, however without chaos how would people know peace and without evil in the world how would there be good. Society is all about yin and yang, bad in the good and good in the bad. In the novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, London is transformed into a society where there are no mothers or father, babies are born in tubes, and there is no talk of marriage or being exclusive to one person. A different civilization than present day. Brave New World was published in 1932, during this time the Great Slump was happening throughout England, which would be understandable because Huxley describes his novel as a negative utopia, or dystopia. The novel is a great read for one who is interested in utopias, dystopias and how society would be different if history had not panned out the way it had. Brave New World is an excellent example of how dystopias are disguised as utopias.
The Searchers is John Ford’s one of the most famous films. However, the main themes of it is not as simple as the story line. Ford created two complex heroes in the film; one is Ethan who is a racist, and the other is Martin who contains Indian blood ties.

John Ford’s The Searchers plays with the western genre primarily through its straddling of the line between the classical and contemporary western through John Wayne's duality of the hero and anti hero among additional more complex plot elements. The film opens with the typical opening of the frontier hero mode common in classic western with John Wayne’s character appearing out of nature to join the other charters in the story shortly before the conflict of the film is introduced. The conflict of The Searchers is a another common element of classical classical westerns being a confl;ict of white culture vs native culture as the natives come to attack those who are living on their land followed by the retaliation of said settlers in a search
