In this session long project, the class was instructed to watch a video on the introduction to public health and to answer three questions. What are the three core functions of public health? What are the essential services associated with each of these? What agencies (federal, state, or local) are responsible for carrying out these core functions and essential services? In the paper below these questions will be answered in reference to the E-learning video while using the provided sources.

These three are related to policy development because they give people knowledge and common ground for implementing guidelines just in case of an outbreak of a disease or illness. In reference to the last core function, assurance, the last five essential services are related because they all ensure the safety and wellbeing of others (Core Functions…”, 2017). Enforcing laws and regulations can help protect the health of others and ensures their safety while keeping outbreaks to a minimum (Core Functions…”, 2017). Attempting to help people to the needed health care and assure the help of others when it is not available (Core Functions…”, 2017). Assure that there are knowledgeable workers in environmental health workforce who can properly research an evaluate the effectiveness of environmental health (“Core Functions…”, 2017).
Agencies
A few agencies are the US Health and Human Services (HHS), Food and Drug Agency (FDA), and Center of Disease Control (CDC). They are responsible for carrying out the core functions and essential services. The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), also known as the Health Department, is a cabinet-level department of the U.S. federal government with the goal of “protecting the health and well-being of all Americans” and “providing effective health and human services and fostering advances in medicine, public health, and social services” (“About HHS”, 2017,
Public health is the measures taken by the government to prevent ill health and disease. The government monitor health so that they can develop different programmes and legislation to improve the health and well being of the people in the country. They do this by attempting to solve inequalities, so that all people not matter what are able to live a healthy life. There are eight policies to improve today's public health, these are; planning for health
Public health departments make certain that safety of local communities such as the facility of sewerage systems, clean water and safe waste disposal are all taken care of. Environmental health also consists of making sure that food outlets meet the mandatory food safety standards and are inspected regularly.
William Beveridge was a man whom was asked by government to write a report on the best and most effective ways to help those on low incomes. This was after the Second World War when people felt they needed rewarding, which the government responded to by promising to create a more equal society. In Beveridge’s report in December 1942, he proposed that all people of a working age should contribute, which would benefit people who were sick, unemployed, retired, or widowed.
The competency “apply the core functions of assessment, policy development, and assurance in the analysis of public health problems and their solutions” was met through reading chapter 5 in Public Health: What it is and How it Works, along with completing a discussion question on applying the essential public health services to gun violence in Chicago and by completing a group project where I had to describe substance abuse in terms of the ten essential public health services.
The major focuses of HHS were the Office of Human Development Services, the Public Health Service, HCFA, and the Social Security Administration. But HHS were most worried about in 1980 were health care finance. And to make thing worse, by the 1990s HHS lost a major operating agency, when SSA decided to go independent. Even with all the changes, HHS still remains a government agency that is responsible for federal policy. HHS is responsible for the curing and caring for those affected by immune deficiency syndrome, preserving the health insurance right of people with disabilities, and assuring the long-range solvency of the Medicare programs. It is the mission of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service (HHS) to enhance and protect the Health and well-being of all American. The

The following international, national, and local agencies are aimed at keeping the public safe while seeking optimum health and well-being for all citizens involved. They provide assessments, develop policies, assurance, meet unmet needs, and enable access to health care (McCowan, 2013). They hone communities’ capabilities to respond effectually to health issues by shielding and endorsing the health of the community and its residents (McKenzie & Pinger, 2016-b).
The mission of the Department of Health and Human Services is to help provide the structure that Americans need to live prosperous and healthy lives. This service gives families, children, and seniors a way to receive quality health care. This achieved by helping parents find affordable childcare and legitimate jobs. This organization is dedicated to keeping American’s food safe, preventing infectious diseases, and by pushing the boundaries of how to treat and diagnose disease (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services , 2013).
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is the U.S. government’s principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves. HHS is responsible for almost a quarter of all federal outlays and administers more grant dollars than all other federal agencies combined. The mission of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is to enhance the health and well-being of Americans by providing for effective health and human services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health, and social services. In addition, HHS is also responsible to provide better services to people by adapting to new technologies to keep pace with the advancement in technology. As we compare the health and human services from last ten years to present, it is very clear to analyze how health and human systems have improved over the years. The Department manages programs that cover a vast spectrum of activities that impact health, public health, and human services outcomes throughout the life span.
The national system responsible for the health and welfare of United States citizens is the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. “HHS is charged with regulating health care and overseeing the health status of Americans” (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2008, p. 56). A newer division, Office of Public Health Preparedness was added after September 11, 2011 to assist with preparing for bioterrorism at the state and national level (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2008). The U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) has eight agencies and is

Next on the MAPP four assessments is Local Public Health System Assessment. Local Public Health System Assessment focuses on all of the organizations and entities that contribute to the public 's health. The LPHSA answers the questions: "What are the components, activities, competencies, and capacities of our local public health system?" and "How are the Essential Services being provided to our community?"(NACCHO, 2017). Any organization or entity that contributes to the health or well-being of a community is considered part of the public health system. Ideally, a group that is broadly representative of these public health system partners will participate in the assessment process. By sharing their diverse perspectives, all participants will gain a better understanding of each organization’s contributions, the interconnectedness of activities, and how the public health system can be strengthened (National Public Health Performance Standards Program, 2017). Essentials services should be provided to the community through community outreach programs. Community outreach programs provide the community with many informational resources not just in the aspect of healthcare alone but the overall well-being of
The Constitution distribute public health powers into two categories the federal government and the states (Gostin, 2000). The Federal government, when it comes to public health have the control over taxing, spending, and regulating the activity of buying. Federal public health powers include the authority to tax, spend, and regulate interstate commerce. This control allows the Federal government to gain access to more money, distribute materials, resources, and to continue catch the public's interest (Gostin, 2000). Each individual State have taken on some of this public health power. For example, to help protect, maintain, and promote the health, safety, morals, and general welfare of the people (Gostin, 2000). The 10 essential public health services are distributed under the three core functions of assurance, assessment, and policy development. Every community and public health organization should undertake activities that represent the 10 essential public health services. The American Heart Association is a nonprofit agency that embodies some of the essential public health services. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, the AHA has many local offices that serve various communities across the country. It is important for the AHA to be involved in building healthier communities because heart disease and stroke are the number 1 and number 5, respectively, leading causes of death in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2015).
This paper defines and explains the six core functions of epidemiology: Public health surveillance, field investigation, analytic studies, evaluations, linkages, and policy development. The core functions of epidemiology lay down a foundation on which epidemiologists can begin to work from. This paper will look at the benefits of incorporating all six of these functions into a working plan when health officials, medical personnel, first responders, etc., encounter a disease or illness that needs to be identified, treated and contained.
