Leadership is an act of leading a group of people to achieve a common goal. There are many styles of leadership like autocratic, democratic, laissez-faire, narcissistic and toxic leadership. Today, I’m going to discuss about the value based leadership. This is an effective approach to lead your subordinates by understanding organization and your personal values.
Values-based is a very indefinable term and theory, apparently commonly understood but perhaps not adequately or correctly. Value based leadership is connecting employees values with the organization goals. Leaders must communicate with to manage short and long term results. Leaders should talk about trade-offs, priorities, values and connections. Value based leadership is aligning personnel and organization values. It means employees and managers must behave in such a way which is important for the productivity, profitability, sustainability and integrity of the business. This approach of leadership is to identify your own beliefs, education, priorities and values which effects your way how you lead others, make decisions and handle conflicts.

The values-based leadership is focused on a motivating vision. The leader must be able to build a vision that the followers are capable to adopt as their own vision. The leader’s vision should become vision of followers because it is constructed on their needs and hopes.

Leadership is the ability to guide, direct, and motivate others to accomplish a mission or task. It is the ability to make subordinates see their own potential in their abilities and supervisors recognize and respect it. Leaders are entrusted with building up those they lead to ensure the individual can one day assume the responsibility of leading others. It is for this reason that the situational approach style of leadership best describes my leadership style.
I want others to be able to see my leadership philosophy at work. To do this, it is important that I be able to connect with those I seek to lead, as “The Relational Leadership Model” states, “Relationships are the focal point of the leadership process” (Komives, Lucas, & McMahon, p. 74). One way I hope to develop a relationship with my followers is by “Modeling the Way” (Kouzes, Posner, 2008). I will do this by clarifying my values and leading by example. Clarifying values is important because “To earn and sustain personal credibility, one must be able to clearly articulate deeply held beliefs” (Kouzes, Posner, 2008, p. 29). According to dictionary.com leadership is defined as, the position or function of a leader, a person who guides or directs a group: Its synonyms include guidance, influence, control, direction and supervision. These are all qualifications that are needed to be an effective leader. All characteristics are not necessarily needed at the same time and do no need to be used for each subordinate. This paper will identify my personal leadership philosophy along with theories to support my leadership style.
The next value that Harry Jensen Kramer Jr talk about is the need for balance. A leader may have his own set of values and opinions of a situation. But it should not obstruct his ability to see the same situation from another point of view. A good leader accepts that there are always different perspective to consider in a given situation. Many leaders tend to be headstrong in their mind set that only their opinion matters. Anyone who does not believe in his opinion is just challenging his authority. This is a clear case of an ego issue. The open-mindedness opens room for god communication between the leader and his followers. This develops trust and respect within an organisation. But it is also necessary to filter out the good opinions from the bad ones. As a leader, you must decide which is important for the organisation and not take all suggestion without due thought just to appease the teams. The first of the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership is Model the Way. In this practice, leaders ascertain their inner voice, values and beliefs in order to affirm shared values with their constituents (Kouzes & Posner, 2012). Leaders must clarify their own values if they aspire to support shared values amongst their team. They accomplish this task by identifying the values and beliefs that are important to them and the supporting reasons. Subsequently, the leader would communicate those values with their constituents and in return ask for their values and beliefs with a goal to unify the team. Lastly, a leader will “walk the talk” and follow the values that they communicate with their subordinates.
A leader who treats his people well and has time for them inculcates a culture which values leadership. A leadership that involves its people in making decisions makes the society value and respect leadership. A culture which listens to the concerns of its people makes the society be attached to the society. In conclusion it’s important for the leaders to put the interests of the community at heart.

It is a dynamic force and involves the use of power. Out of the forces of leadership come four powerful characteristics: supportive, directive, participative, and achievement-oriented leadership. Although these types of characteristics are not considered ingrained personality traits, they reflect types of behavior every leader is able to adopt depending on the situation.
An essential component of leadership is to articulate and exemplify the organization's core values. These values must be clear, compelling, and repeated. The leader must both "walk the talk" and inspire his/her colleagues within the organization to also live these values. Values are at the core of individual, group or organizational identity. Values are relatively enduring conceptions or judgments about what is considered to be important to an organization. Agreement between personal and organizational values result in shared values which constitute the benchmarking of a successful business practice.
Over the years, a great deal of time, and research has been dedicate to the study of leadership. Even with extensive data on the topic, many still disagree on what leadership really means. Hence, leadership is a word that has many different meanings and different researched theories associated with it. On a basic level, leadership involves having and establishing a clear vision, sharing that vision with followers, respecting followers, and leading an organization with excellence while ensuring that everyone is part of the team. Leadership is also a method by which a leader uses his or her influence towards getting a group of followers to take ownership or buy into a vision.
Value leadership: are the motivations and needs of the organisation’s leaders and other personnel that influence organizational activities, decisions and employees behavior and attitudes.
Leadership is an approach for a leader to guide, motivate, supervise, manage, and influence others in different situation to reach a goal. According to the Pettinger (2007), the leadership can be explained in several situations. First, the leaders have the responsible to provide vision and direction to the followers. Second, the leaders shall energise and motivate the followers. Third, the leaders shall set and enforce absolute standards of behaviour, attitude, presentation and performance.
