I think these videos were a great way of giving us information on prescription drug abuse and addiction. Specifically the video Generation Rx video. I think that the fact that it was actual addicts explain what they went through it got the point across more than anything. Hearing each of them talk about how they got addicted and how it ruined relationships like with their parents and even with other addicts. Hearing how some of them were even willing to steal from their family or how one of the women would leave her own child sitting in its own filth really showed how much of a hold prescription drugs had over their life. Also, I think this video brought attention to people 's naive views on prescription drugs. People of all ages like to think that only the drugs that are labeled as illegal are bad for you. but that is not the case at all and this video touches on that very topic.
Nothing in these videos really shocked me. I think that the videos just added insight to something I already know. Specifically, the Generation Rx video that involved actual addicts talking about what they went through. I was surprised how they talked about prescription drugs. I’ve always thought that prescription drugs were just as bad if not worse than drugs that aren’t prescribed to you. People have a tendency to think that because a doctor prescribed this to other people they can take the same drugs and be fine. That is not the case at all, which is why I think prescription drugs are so
The first thing I liked about this clip was the girls’ confidence. This greatly had a huge impact on the overall video and on me because these girls were confident with what they were saying. Anybody can say claims and counterclaims regarding what they are speaking for but, if they don’t have a loud, clear and strong
what was your overall impression of the video? Was it a balanced/accurate portrayal of the issue/people? How? /Why not? Did your position and/or understanding of the issues change? How? /Why not?
This video was very surprising, instructive, informative, depressing and occasionally infuriating. I have always known that there were a lot of factors that influence ones health, but I had never really expected it to be this disturbing reality. The video presents a lot of surprising information with any luck individuals will ask themselves serious questions like I did. Optimistically, after seen the video people can account to the things that need to be addressed in order to eliminate this factors and not be eager to judge a set of group of individuals.
The documentary points to a company called Pharma Purdue, which seemed to have caused a momentum in drug addictions and deaths, after releasing a drug called Oxycontin (Oxycodone). Originally it was pushed as a pain medication, supposedly not as addictive as other pain medications. "Oxycontin was not really a new drug. The molecule has been around since 1916. What they did is, they took this old extinct drug, and they introduced a time release mechanism into it so that it would be significantly less addictive because it wouldn 't be released upfront, all at once. That’s how they pitched it to the FDA" (Katherine Eban, Fortune).
In the documentary, heroine is nothing new, but a disease that has been brewing for a little over 30 years. Before heroine became known for a high, it was a drug called OxyContin, that was given to everyone to take away their problems. These pain problems consist of cancer patients and severe chronic pain. However, Purdue Pharma seen an opportunity to provide a new prescription called Oxy to an old drug name, but gave it an extra release long acting of pain relief. Then started advertising it on commercials for the public to view every day. Less than 1% of patient become addicted. In 2001, Pharma sold over 1 billion dollars with OxyContin over a year.
The opioid crisis has affected me personally. Three years ago, my biological father overdosed and died. He had been taking a lot of pills ( far more than what was prescribed) for quite some time. He had overdosed multiple times before it finally killed him. My youngest brother (whom my father raised), is unfortunately addicted to heroin now. He is only 21 years old, and sadly I feel he is following in our father's footsteps.
There is an epidemic happening in the United States right now, and it is with the abuse of prescription drugs; Chris Rock has portrayed it in the best way,
Walk the Line was a really good movie to watch because it portrayed addictions quite well. It shows us how a person reacts when that are addicted to certain substances as well as how they will react when they go through withdrawal. I think the best part of the movie was when the film showed us how Johnny defeated his addiction to drugs and alcohol. Johnny didn’t defeat his addiction alone, in fact he had the help of friends and family, which is what it takes to overcome an addiction. The movie also showed us the changes a person goes through while becoming an addict as well as all the changes they will go through again to overcome addiction. An addiction isn’t something you can overcome overnight, in fact it can take several days, several
Watching the video has educated me to think differently and not to form conclusions based on what I see on TV. I cannot say I can relate to anything that had happened to everyone in the video, but being an African myself I feel like there a lot of things that might be happening around me that I do not notice. The only things I can say is that when I was younger most of the things I saw on TV scared me and haunted me day after day. There were even times I did not want to spend time outside because of the fear I had of running into someone who might harm me. The Mean World Syndrome is a fear of the world where people cannot trust each other or people from other social groups. For this reason, the way I see TV will be different because if
Seeing the family argue with each other trying to help Ryan. Loved ones desperate to help Ryan but unsure how to do that. His brother Jason thought keeping alcohol away would help, not knowing alcohol withdrawals could kill him. His grandpa Bob thought giving him money and rides for alcohol and storing some for the morning would be helpful. I thought the ex girlfriend shaleens method of giving him small quantities as his withdrawal symptoms got worst was the best practice to help. It was sad to hear that Ryan died 17 days into rehab, and think about the pain that would cause his loved ones. This video was very eye opening on the reality of
I think it was interesting to learn about the difference between drugs that are stimulants and depressants. I have always thought that all drugs have similar effects on the body such as producing an euphoric feeling, which I assumed is what attracted drug addicts in the first place. It is also very interesting to see all the detrimental effects that drugs have on the body, but drug addicts are still willing to ingest it just to have a temporary, pleasurable feeling. Depending on a person’s background, they could be more prone to developing a drug addiction. Biologically, if one of your parents is an addict, you are more likely to become one. Psychologically, depending on your viewpoint of the world or how you were raised, you may believe that
It was also very enlightening to me. Watching the struggle that Alice had as she realized what was happening to her was heartbreaking and encouraging at the same time. She fought well - eating right, exercising, challenging her own memory at every turn, and setting up self-supports as best she could via her computer and phone. She tried to live each day as best she

Mise-en-scenes were well incorporated in each of James Cameron’s movies especially for science fiction movies that used elegantly crafted visuals.
Video 3 was short and to the point. It was called, “Khale”, Ya-Living with sickie. In this video the emotions were stated about how this little girl seem normal until one day she may be very sick and after acts and passionate like a normal child, and you would not realize that she has sickle cell disease. the video 4 the title was. “Surfing dog teachers disabled kid to surf. In reviewing this video there were not only one person who benefited form a disability but two and a dog. Ricochet was the puppy who was trained from birth to be a service dog through the eye of
What I really liked about this documentary is that some of the points brought up are things that most people never talk about. For example, it mentioned that the most prescribed medication in the world is Lipitor, which is a diabetes medication. However, since the introduction of Lipitor to the public, the incidence of diabetes has not decreased, in fact the amount of people who suffer from diabetes has actually increased. This just shows that the way we are trying to solve the problem is not working. It seemed so strange to me that we spend so much money on the development of medications, yet the most used form of treatment doesn’t really help those who need it. Treating the symptoms is not a cure it is only a short term fix for a long term problem. Not are the people being cured, they are now going to be spending the rest of their lives dependent on medication, and we are yet to understand the long term effects of long term medication use. This also raises the question, if the medication is not helping what can? The documentary proposed that a complete change in diet was the answer. The documentary used a study that was done with people who had diabetes their whole lives and switched them to a whole foods plant based diet, and their health improved drastically. It was mind blowing
