Hamas, a democratically elected organization, has been waging a war for independence from Israel since its founding in 1987. This fighting has intensified steadily after its successful election in January 2006. Hamas is considered a terrorist organization, therefore Gaza, their ruling territory, has been nearly completely cut off from the most basic supplies. Death, disease and famine are rampant in this city of 1.4 million people. Hamas has been helping the poor, giving them money, food and medical supplies, while bolstering community support for their organization. "Approximately 90 percent of its (Hamas’) work is in social, welfare, cultural, and educational activities," writes the Israeli scholar Reuven Paz. Born of displaced mothers and dead fathers, many of the members of Hamas have had their lives ruined by the Israeli occupation of their homeland. It is not difficult for Hamas to recruit new members, as there are many violently affected by the occupation. However, Hamas, with all its support in Gaza and abroad, is severely lacking in weapons compared to the Israeli army, and has resorted to firing rockets across the border. Many have condemned these attacks, and Israel often retaliates, sometimes with extreme force. Why do they then continue? Is it because they remember their loved ones, killed in their homes from Israeli soldiers and airstrikes? Or maybe because they have grown up without reliable access to drinking water, while they watch Israeli settlers
Since the UN partition of Israel and Palestine in 1947, Israel has been placed in many instances of conflict between the Jewish migrants to the region and the Palestinian natives. Several conflicts resulted in open, declared war, such as the First Arab-Israeli War of 1948-1949, and the Yom Kippur War of 1973. In addition, Israel has been involved in the occupation of the West Bank and the blockade of the Gaza Strip. After the last open war, Israel’s occupation of the West Bank has been marked by the military governorate, taking political and institutional control of the region that is ethnically and religiously different than the population that resides in the Jewish state of Israel.
America, the land of the free, gained its original independence by fighting off the British in the Revolutionary War. With the British infringing on their unalienable rights, the American colonist knew they needed to take action to stop the overpowering British monarchy to preserve their freedom. The same situation arose in 1803 when the British started seizing American ships and stealing their goods. By 1812 the United States was fed up with Great Britain and their rebellious acts towards them. The United States declared war on June 18, 1812. Why is it that the American people consider the War of 1812 to be the second war of independence?
"Since Biblical times there has been a conflict between the Arabs and the Jews in what today is known as Israel. It began with the birth of two boys, Ismael and Isaac; born to two different mothers and fathered by Abraham. That conflict has become more intricate, more serious and much more complicated" ("Israeli-Palestinian Conflict."). "Beginning with the Diaspora and furthered by the British Mandate post World War I and the Holocaust during the period of World War II, Jews sought to return to their Homeland only to find that they once again were unwanted; this time by their Arab brethren. Wars ensued and further complications arose.Time and again war has broken out between the two peoples, solutions sought but not found and the search for
On April 5th, 2018, a group of Palestinian protesters marched their way to the Gaza-Israel border, before being interrupted by a sudden eruption of gunfire and smoke. The Israeli army opened fire on thousands of civilians, killing 18 and wounding many others. Israeli troops fight and kill the inhabitants of their neighboring territory, those who are innocent civilians of their own country (Jones). Tragedies like this happen nearly every month, in dozens of regions across the globe. Armed forces brought upon residents in an effort to eradicate, disguised as control. Ranging from police brutality to ethnic cleansings and cultural genocide, the use of military force is severely abused, and results in devastation around the world. Therefore, the
The U.S. War of Independence ensued from the increasing conflict between the British North American colonies and England. However, this conflict cannot be traced back to a single cause, rather, to multiple issues and protests towards the tyranny of the mother country. Even though the numerous Acts enforced by the British government undoubtedly generated dissatisfaction amongst the colonists, it was the government’s rejection of cooperation or compromise that persuaded many colonists of the inevitability of war and independence.
King Solomon in the Proverbs declares that “For though the righteous fall seven times, they always get back up.” (New International Version, Prov. 24:16). The time of 66 to 73 AD was an era of turmoil throughout the Roman Empire. Many strains of beliefs and philosophies were being formed, widely spread, and persecuted, like that of the early Christians. Yet, at the same time, the ancient religion of the Jews was also a grand source of persecution that is often neglected to be taught. The Jewish Wars that were fought during this time resulted in a horrific amount of deaths and feuds, the destruction of the Temple, as well as the disappearance and shifting of various sects. But, it also resulted in the unification and collaboration of various
The 1948 war, which started among the newly established state of Israel and the troops of Jordan, Syria, Egypt, Lebanon and Iraq, is the result of decades of history that generated tensions between Arabs and Jews over the land of Palestine.
1750 marked a reconstruction era for the world. Also 1750-1850 was heavily focused on people’s rights. Some of the main bills were the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, The Bill of Rights, Haitian Republic Constitution Of 1801, and Olympe de Gouge: Declaration of the Rights of Women.
The year is 1775 and the American Colonies are at war with Great Britain for their Independence. The Continental Congress would soon sign an article into law, which would authorize the construction of the Navy of the United Colonies of North America. Article 16 of this bill stated that “A convenient place shall be set apart for sick or hurt men, to be removed with their hammocks and bedding when the surgeon shall advise the same to be necessary: and some of the crew shall be appointed to attend to and serve them and to keep the place clean. The cooper shall make buckets with covers and cradles if necessary for their use.” Little did they know that this would be the inception of the Hospital Corpsman. A military organization that would soon
HAMAS, an Arabic acronym meaning “Islamic Resistance Movement”, is the name of the socio-political organization currently in power over the Gaza Strip. For decades Jews & Muslims and Israelis & Palestinians, often one in the same, have fought for control over the region. Each have killed thousands of the other, destroyed infrastructures and used underhanded tactics to gain an advantage. Nations such as Japan, the European Union, the United States and (of course) Israel classify the group as terrorists, while nations such as Turkey, Russia and Switzerland do not. (King, 2010) Many factors are taken into consideration before a Nation-State denounces an organization as a “terrorist group”. A profile of HAMAS may help make clear why it is
In 1776, after a war for independence from Great Britain, the newly formed United States was finally off on their own. As a young democracy, the early United States were seen as a beacon of hope for individual rights of citizens, as well as for political freedoms across the board. After coming out of the shadow of a monarch’s rule, it is easy to say that the citizens of the new United States were definitively more free after the Revolution than before. However, this is simply not the case. While they were finally independent of a different country’s rule, American citizens were subjected to a new oppressor, fear. Americans had to live in fear of a new, unfamiliar
Life for many of the 1.5 million Palestinians who live in the Gaza strip is difficult. Mostly because Israel controls its coastline and all of the entry and exit crossings into Israel. They have no working airport and because their access is so limited not many goods get into or out of Gaza. There is food allowed in but aid agencies claim families aren’t eating much meat or fresh vegetables and fruit. The power cuts out often so they don’t have power for hours at a time. Many of the people are unemployed because businesses can only get very little of their products out of Gaza to sell, and people don’t have much money to purchase products. Key factors such as a clash between civilizations, intolerance of religion, and contrast between values play a
Independence in Mexico changed the dynamic of life inside the country. It brought about social and economic issue that seemingly found a way to intertwine themselves. In Mexico, the decline in stability led to corruption throughout the country that created not just banditry, but massive widespread banditry. Bandits and the police aspired too many roles in Mexico before and after the war on independence. These roles by both bandits and the police were backed by motivations that changed over time but some that stayed the same. The changes that happen were led by the reformation of a rural police force in Mexico and also the rise/reign of Porfirio Diaz that brought about supporters with a long rule.
Hamas, an organization which was formed in the year 1987, 5 years after 53 massacres were committed by the Zionist, killing approximately 3,500 innocent civilians, from men, women, to children. Zionist ‘claims’ one of the reasons as to why they attack Palestinians is because of Hamas, which they consider to be a terrorist group. However as stated above, Hamas didn’t form until after Zionist executed innocent civilians. So that ‘claim’ is only an excuse to kill innocent Palestinians to occupy their land and kill innocent civilians. This shows the real terrorist group isn’t Hamas as they claim, but themselves (Erdogan: Hamas made up of freedom fighters, not terrorists, 2012).
The Islamic Resistance Movement, also known as al-Harakah al-Muqawama al-Islamiya (Hamas), has proven to be an extremely agile and capable terrorist organization in Palestine. They benefit from a deep-rooted sociocultural infrastructure, highly lethal tactics and a complex hierarchy of leadership, all of which have allowed the organization to prosper for over two decades. As where 90% of terrorist groups wither and rapidly falter, Hamas has been able to quickly adapt to the constantly changing political and social environment of Palestine . This evolution, has always assured the organization a generous group of adherents. The necessity to change based on environmental stressors has likened it to a “multipronged organism, which has
