The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne is a historical fiction novel about a german boy named Bruno who meets a young jewish boy named Shmuel during the time of the Holocaust and become good friends. In The Boy in the Striped Pajamas Bruno (a young german boy) and Shmuel (a young jewish boy) become friends and let nothing get in their way. Throughout the book there is a fence that separates Bruno from Shmuel and the two boys decide to do something about it. In The Boy in the Striped Pajamas the fence is a physical barrier, but also represents separation due to race and wealth. The fence was not only a physical barrier, but also separated the Jewish people from the Germans due to their race.

In this fiction book, Greg is on a long road trip because his mom looked through a summer fun magazine and saw things to do in it and she chose the road trip option. Of course, Greg and the rest of the family was not thrilled by this idea. The three topics addressed in this book are the protagonist, conflict, and characterization.
