That is around one in five deaths annually only because of smoking. On an average, the person who smokes dies ten years earlier than a non-smoker. These statistics are not mere numbers but speak about the gravity of the situation. The United States government should portray a more negative view on Tabaco to save the lives of many people worldwide (Centre for Disease and Prevention, second paragraph).
‘’ Tobacco smoking is the largest single preventable cause of death and disease in Australia” (Cancer Council, 2006). The 2003 Australian Burden of disease study considers tobacco smoking as a leading cause of disease burden in Australia (Begg S, 2003). Anti-Cancer Council of Australia conducted its first national survey which shows that during the middle of last century, large numbers of males aged 16 and over were smokers and compared to females. However, in the following decades, the prevalence of smoking decreased among males due to publicity regarding health effects of smoking which first started in 1950s and early 1960s (Gray N and Hill D, 1975). According to the survey conducted by the Australian Bureau of statistics in

Thankfully, people have come to collectively understand that tobacco use causes extreme harm to a person’s physical health, economic well-being, and social relationships. However, what many don’t realize is how widespread tobacco usage still is. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reveals that tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States: it kills over 480,000 people a year (both directly and also by secondhand smoke) and for every person that dies, 30 more live with serious smoking-related health consequences ("Tips impact and results" 2016). With so many people dying from tobacco use, tobacco companies are forced to gain new customers for their products. These new users are children and young

According to the center for disease control and prevention (CDC) the rise in smoking caused an increase in diseases affecting the lungs, livers, and heart. Smoking is the single most preventable cause of death in the United States (Smoking & Tobacco Use). Three effective ways as a society and a culture we can reduce the overall number of smokers are by getting the government more involved, making e-cigarettes a safer alternative, limiting the public’s exposure to tobacco products by the media, and determine what is making people use tobacco and tailor treatment and prevention

Tobacco is the only legal drug that has ended up in the deaths of its many users. Other than the deaths, tobacco smoking is associated with an increased risk of ill health, and disability. The deaths are mostly from noncommunicable chronic diseases (e.g., lung cancer and cardiovascular disease) as well as communicable diseases such as tuberculosis. Each year, around 5 million people across the globe lose their lives due to direct tobacco smoking, most of them being premature deaths. These serious damages caused by tobacco smoking indicate that tobacco control must be given high priorities so as to improve the global public health.

As a nation, the United States of America has recently declared a war against the tobacco industry. There are now graphic commercials and advertisements suggesting the negative effects of tobacco cigarette use. However, according to the World Health Organization there remain over one billion tobacco smokers in the world (Rom, Corelli, Valacchi & Reznick, 2015). Tobacco use has been associated with and linked to six leading causes of death in the world which include Ischemic heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, lower respiratory infections, chronic obtrusive pulmonary disease, tuberculosis and lung cancer (The Who, 2014). The World Health organization suggests that tobacco use is one of the most preventable causes of death in the world, but unfortunately, it remains a growing problem due to marketing, promotion, and lobbyists. As a social worker, it is important to consider this as an issue that is brought up by the client. According to the CDC (2013) 17.8% of adults 18 and older are current cigarette smokers.
It is widely claimed that tobacco consumption is the biggest culprit of preventable death, which is responsible for more than 6 million of mortality worldwide per year, reported by the Centers of Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC). Recent research of CDC in 2015 also predicted that smoking in particular will be the cause of 8 million deaths annually by 2030. Such current trends prompt many nations to enact laws restricting the harvesting, distributing and selling tobacco products. One striking example is that in 2010, Bhutan became the first non-smoking country by imposing a nationwide tobacco products ban. According to that, all the acts of tobacco production, distribution and consumption were forbidden, otherwise the violators would
