Traffic Jam in Los Angeles Traffic jams are a case where there are a large number of vehicles close together and they are moving very slow. Traffic jams have become an issue to many of the cities around the world, some being known across the world as the traffic jam mysteries, for example, Mumbai. However, as the time continues other cities have become part of the traffic jam and they are facing the traffic as a major issue. Although some people support the traffic jam in Los Angeles, there are many people believe that traffic jam is a global issue, and it causes many problems such as wasting time, and air pollution especially in Los Angeles. Traffic jams are feared and hate by many due to the challenges like wasting time. While traveling from one place to the other one always wishes to reach the destination early enough, but in the case of the traffic jams this usually changes. A person is often late to work, class or any other place a person was wishing to be. In some of the case, people have lost their jobs since they could not make it to work on time due to the traffic jam. It is important to identify that traffic jam in Los Angeles is more of the increase in the number of vehicles (Bento et al. 44). It has been identified that in the days when the fuel prices are low there tends to be a large number of vehicles in town unlike when the prices are high. The increase of the motor vehicles and the jam has led to people engaging into other activities while driving.
The town of Halton Hill’s population includes the areas of Georgetown and Acton and other communities such as Erin, Oakville, Burlington and Milton regions. This is what is considered to be my community because these are the many places that I am visiting most often and they are always referred to together as “Halton Hills Region” (p.5, 2011). With the substantial increase in population in the Halton Hills region, more specifically Georgetown, there should be a strong demand for a public transit system to counteract all of the environmental disturbances that are being caused due to this increase. One of the things that is happening is that there are so many trees they are cutting down in order to expand and grow the population with houses being built. Statistics are showing that the population of Halton Hill’s region will expand by 54% over the next 20 years (p.5, 2011). By the year 2031, employment rates will increase by 75%, leaving Halton with 42,100 jobs being offered (p.5, 2011). With this rapid influx of citizens, this will only increase the demands of travel to get to these work places as well as other destinations (p.5, 2011). Over the past couple of year’s the traffic congestion on the major roads in Halton Hills such as Trafalgar Road and Regional Road 25 with individuals trying to get to and from work. There used to be very little traffic in these areas, however since Halton Hill’s has continued to expand, the utilization of automobiles has significantly increased due to the fact there is no public transit system. The Transportation Demand Management in Halton Hill’s is noticing the increase in automobiles stating that there needs to be a major shift in more efficient ways of transportation, yet there still has been nothing improvised (p.7, 2011). The Transportation Demand
Being stuck in traffic is not a fun thing to do, nor do I wish this upon anyone. It is one of the most annoying and frustrating things for me. July 4th of 2009 is one day I
As a result of an increased population inhabiting one area, traffic congestion is often a major issue resulting from urbanisation. In London, traffic is evidently a problem. As it would be expected from a capital city home to more
San Francisco Crime spotting or mapping is a communicating map of crimes in San Francisco and an instrument for understanding crime. “If sirens are heard this mapping can identify which neighborhood it is” (ouLearn on YouTube, 2011). Crime spotting makes this possible with shared maps to see crimes in different areas of the city. It maps high crime places and places to avoid because of crime. Instead of merely being able to know where a crime took place crime mapping does more.
As my friends and I sit at the stop light waiting to turn into the parking lot I notice that a lot of cars are coming and going, in and out of
The traffic problem in Atlanta drains both time and money for thousands. It has been shown that Atlanta drivers spend on average 51 unnecessary hours behind the wheel each year (WSB Radio, 2013). That’s more than two 24 hour days spent sitting in traffic. During all this time spent, Atlantans end up spending upwards of $1000 per year on gas and collectively use 63,000,000 gallons of gas each year while sitting in traffic (WSB Radio, 2013). Traffic in Atlanta has been a huge waste of time and money for Atlantans for years and something needs to be done to alleviate the
Evidence: A study presented by the white house on its website reported that 65% of roads rated in less than good condition. 25% of bridges require significant repair or cannot handle today's traffic. Also because certain roads cannot be used there is more traffic. The Texas Transportation Institute estimates that American commuters in urban areas collectively lost 5.5 billion hours stuck in traffic in 2011, meaning the average commuter lost nearly a week to traffic. their calculations further suggest that traffic congestion caused American commuters to purchase an extra 2.9 billion gallons of fuel, costing them more than $120 billion in added fuel costs and wasted time.
Late 20th century Los Angeles, California was a bustling, diverse, and segregated city. Both El Norte (1983) and Falling Down (1993) depict Los Angeles in revealing ways. Falling Down in particular has many shots of the city itself; in fact, the first scene in the film takes place in a classic LA traffic jam on the highway. It shows cars lined up and not moving on the highway as far as the eye can see, with construction going on around them. It is also very hot in LA. The people are sweating, it’s sunny outside, bugs are flying around, and there are palm trees around the highway. Similarly, one of the last shots in El Norte shows a busy highway with the LA skyline in the background. That shot with the skyscrapers, cars driving quickly by, and palm trees is one of the most iconic images of LA in either film.
Under California constitutional law, services provided by state agencies generally must be performed by state civil service employees. In some cases the state may contract with private firms to obtain services. However, there are limitations as to when such contracting is allowed, for example, if services needed by the state are: (1) of a temporary nature, (2) not available within the civil service, or (3) of a highly specialized or technical nature. According to the argument in favor of Proposition 35, private contracting has been further limited by several lawsuits filed by Caltrans bureaucrats.
California is known for many things: beaches, sunshine, surfing, and some of the most crowded prisons found in America. California’s state prisons have long been faced with the issue of overcrowding, largely due to California’s tough-on-crime laws put into place to keep crime rates low and discriminate against criminal activity. Unfortunately, these laws have backfired and now serve to keep far too many non-violent Californians locked for much longer than necessary. This has led severe overcrowding within the California prison system to the point where the federal government has become involved in solving the issue.
People are putting their lives at risk every time they climb into a vehicle. To show how dangerous distracted driving is compared to gun related deaths. Statistics show, “The total number of Gun-Related Deaths in 2010 were 428, while the total number of Traffic Fatalities in 2010 were 608” (Jones Para 1). The total number of traffic fatalities exceeds the total number of gun deaths. There are several distractions on the road today such as, using electronic devices while driving, drinking, and being an aggressive driver. Traffic safety is one the most important thing on the roads today.
The Physics of Gridlock is a paper written to teach the reader about the theory of bottlenecks. The Physics of Gridlock is written in a way that highlights a divergence in the thought processes of the practically-minded Americans and theoretically inclined Germans. The Americans take things more head on. Every problem has a solution and every action has a cause. Germans look at things as they might be. There may be no reason why traffic jams happen, or why fish swim in schools, that may just be how it is. This difference in thought is shown throughout The Physics of Gridlock while discussing the flow of traffic. Americans believe that
Congestion and traffic pollution has been a major problem in New York City for years. There have been many laws, tolls, and fines implemented over the past few decades to try and fix the problem. Yet, congestion still exists. Congestion occurs when there is overcrowding on roadways that’s causes traffic jams. There are several reasons for the severity of this issue. Congestion causes a lot of delays in the city. It is unlikely that people are on time for anything, even if they planned ahead. With traffic in the city the way it is, you can’t blame them. The indirect effect of congestion is traffic pollution. Traffic pollution is polluting of the environment caused by harmful toxins and gases given released by cars. The amount of pollution
Traffic in Los Angeles is implausible. The streets are congested from morning to night and everyone seems to be in a hurry from the walkers to the drivers. My first time in Los Angeles the traffic was so bad that crossing the street literally scared me; I stood there for the longest time, looking at the light, trying to figure out when to cross.
Globally, numerous urban cities such as New York City and London have the issue of traffic congestion, and in the United States, Los Angeles and New York City take the top title of the worst traffic jams (Bekiempis). Even though traffic congestion ratings may not indicate how much air pollution in an area, most times, traffic congestion does communicate the approximate degree air pollution lies at. Atlanta does have an honorable—or rather, notorious—mention of daily traffic congestion, even though Atlanta’s traffic may not live up to the scale of that of New York City. The quality of air in the Atlanta metropolitan area can also play a testament to how far traffic congestion has gone in the
